- Arcades and Bowling in Houston: Barcades, Lanes and Family Fun
Houston's most charming arcade is a vintage game dealer's showroom that turns into an arcade one night a month. One of its best deals is a $12 ticket to more than 275 machines. And one of its best pinball rooms is inside a brewery. If you came looking for a plain arcade in Houston, you'll find the city has more interesting options than that.
This guide covers where to bowl and where to play: family entertainment centers with lanes and laser tag, adults-only barcade hours, a Japanese-style game hall at a mall, and a boutique bowling alley with a beer hall. It's sorted by the kind of night you want, then by part of town.
The quick list
- Best arcade in Houston for one flat price: Cidercade, where admission covers hundreds of free-play games.
- Most delightful retro night (21+): Joystix, a classic game dealer whose showroom becomes a 21+ arcade on the first Friday of the month.
- For pinball: Eureka Heights, a Heights brewery with more than 26 machines.
- For a stylish bowling night: Bowl & Barrel at CityCentre.
- For a big classic bowling alley: Lucky Strike Houston, with 39 lanes.
- For Japanese arcade games: Round1 at Willowbrook Mall.
- For kids' birthdays and all-day family fun: Main Event, with locations all around the metro.
- For go-karts with your games: Andretti Indoor Karting & Games in Katy.
How we chose
We picked places where the games are the point, not an afterthought, and covered the range people search for: family centers, adult barcades, retro machines and serious bowling. Every pick had to show current hours or public play times on its own official website when we last checked. Prices, hours and age rules come from those sites. They change, so treat them as "typically" and check before you go.
Barcades and adult arcade nights
1. Cidercade Houston
EaDo, 2320 Canal St · 275+ games on one admission · open daily
Cidercade's pitch is simple: pay one admission (typically $12) and play all day. Inside are more than 275 arcade games, from retro classics to skee-ball and rhythm dance games, and hundreds of them are set to free play. Only the instant-prize crane machines cost extra. The bar pours hard cider, the drink the place is named for, along with craft beer it makes itself, and the kitchen turns out 12-inch thin-crust pizzas from a stone hearth oven.
Know before you go: it's family-friendly during the day but strictly 18+ from 9 p.m. Guests under 16 need an adult with them at all times. Cidercade says it can hit capacity, so buy tickets online on weekends.
Best for: a pre-game stop. It sits near Daikin Park and Shell Energy Stadium; see our Daikin Park guide.
2. Joystix
Downtown, 1820 Franklin St · PacMan Fever Friday, first Friday of the month · 21+
Here's our favorite surprise. Joystix has rented and sold classic arcade games since 1987, from a showroom downtown near Daikin Park. Once a month it turns that showroom into an arcade for one night only. It's called PacMan Fever Friday, in honor of the game Joystix calls one of the most sought-after arcade machines on the market. Expect more than 200 new and classic games, unlimited play for one per-person price (typically $15), and drinks at the adjoining Eighteen Twenty Lounge. It's ages 21 and up only.
Insider tip: the rest of the month this is a sales and rental showroom, not an open arcade. Start times have varied, so call Joystix or check its PacMan Fever Friday page before you go.
Best for: anyone who grew up on joysticks and quarters. Pair it with dinner from our downtown restaurant guide.
3. Eureka Heights Brew Co.
The Heights, 941 W 18th St · pinball arcade in a brewery · closed Mondays
Eureka Heights has more than 26 pinball machines and calls itself an official Stern Army location (Stern is the pinball manufacturer). Scan the QR codes on the machines to post your high scores. The taproom typically opens Tuesday to Sunday, and the patio is dog-friendly. The brewery doesn't publish a kids policy, so check before bringing them.
Best for: a weeknight pint and a few balls of pinball. Our best breweries in Houston guide has more taprooms nearby.
Bowling alleys
4. Bowl & Barrel
CityCentre, 797 Sorella Ct · 15 lanes, tavern and beer hall · open daily
Bowl & Barrel calls itself Houston's first upscale bowling alley, and it looks the part: fifteen lanes, a modern American tavern and a beer hall. Lanes are rented by the hour, and the daytime special on weekdays before 4 p.m. includes shoes. The food goes well beyond bowling-alley fare. Order the Burgers in a Bag (three sliders with fries) or the giant pretzel with Texas fondue for the table. The beer list leans local, with Houston breweries on draft.
Insider tip: walk-ins are welcome, but Bowl & Barrel suggests reserving a lane, especially on weekend nights.
Best for: date night, birthdays and team outings. Keep the evening going with our Memorial restaurant guide.
5. Lucky Strike Houston
Memorial City area, 925 Bunker Hill Rd · 39 lanes · open daily
This is the big, classic alley: 39 lanes plus an arcade, a sports bar with food, private lanes and lounge seating. You can reserve a lane online up to eight days ahead. Look for the Night Strike special on its promotions page, which bundles unlimited bowling and shoes on select evenings.
Best for: groups who want lots of lanes and an easy booking.
6. Lucky Strike Willowbrook
Northwest Houston, Willowbrook area · 32 lanes · open daily
Lucky Strike's Willowbrook center has 32 lanes, an arcade and food, and it's a good fit for families and league bowlers. Hours vary by day, so check its page before you go.
Best for: a northwest Houston family afternoon. Pair it with Round1, below.
Family entertainment centers
7. Round1 Willowbrook
Willowbrook Mall, 3000 Willowbrook Mall · arcade, bowling and karaoke · open late daily
Round1 is a Japanese entertainment chain, and its arcade includes exclusive games imported from Japan alongside crane and prize games. Add bowling, billiards, private karaoke rooms and party rooms. The Willowbrook location's site lists Spo-cha, Round1's all-you-can-play sports zone sold in 90-minute, three-hour or full-day blocks. Hours typically run from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Best for: teens, rhythm-game fans and rainy Saturdays.
8. Main Event
Katy, Stafford, Webster, Humble, Shenandoah and Tomball · bowling, arcade, laser tag
Main Event is the safe bet for a kids' party anywhere in the metro. It's built around bowling, a big arcade and laser tag, and the Katy center lists extras such as mini golf, escape rooms, a gravity ropes course and the Human Crane. There's an in-house restaurant and bar. Attractions vary by location, so check your nearest center's page.
Best for: birthdays and all-day family fun. For more ideas by age, see our family activities guide.
9. Dave & Buster's
Katy Freeway, 7620 Katy Fwy; also Friendswood and Sugar Land · arcade, sports bar and restaurant
Dave & Buster's mixes a big arcade (racing games, shooters, air hockey, basketball) with a sports bar full of screens and a full restaurant. Games run on a Power Card you load up. It's the easiest pick when half your group wants to watch the game and the other half wants to play.
Best for: game days and mixed groups.
10. Andretti Indoor Karting & Games
Katy, 1230 Grand West Blvd · karting plus 150+ arcade games
Andretti's Katy center covers more than 90,000 square feet, with three kart tracks, more than 150 arcade games, virtual reality and laser tag. It's the pick when the arcade alone won't hold a group's attention.
Best for: teens and adults who want speed with their games. Dinner ideas are in our Katy restaurant guide.
