Katy's restaurant scene has matured fast. A decade ago, "dinner in Katy" mostly meant chains along I-10. Today, LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch hosts upscale steakhouses, Old Katy has a slow-burn craft beer and BBQ scene, and pockets along Mason Road and the Grand Parkway are filling in with chef-driven spots. None of this rivals the depth of Montrose or the Heights, but for a Houston suburb 30 miles out on I-10, the bench is deep enough to skip the drive into town most nights.
Here is the working list, the standbys locals actually book, organized by what you are in the mood for.
Steakhouses worth the price tag
Perry's Steakhouse & Grille at LaCenterra is the marquee. The pork chop is the order of record. Eddie V's Prime Seafood, also at LaCenterra, leans toward steak-and-seafood crossover with a piano bar, date night material. Texas Land & Cattle along the Katy Freeway handles the lower-priced steakhouse slot. Most Katy steakhouses run $60 to $120 per person before drinks.
Seafood and the Gulf Coast classics
Babin's Seafood House on Mason Road is the Cajun-Gulf anchor, a sister to the rest of the Houston-area Babin's portfolio. The crab cakes and stuffed flounder hold their own against anything inside the Loop. BB's Tex-Orleans handles the more casual Cajun-meets-Tex-Mex angle with po-boys and crawfish in season. For oysters and a beachier vibe, locals drive to Pappadeaux at the Katy Mills end of I-10.
Tex-Mex, the workhorse
Tex-Mex is the default Katy weeknight dinner. Lupe Tortilla on the Katy Freeway is the consensus favorite — the fajitas and the kids' sandbox patio combine to make it the family pick most weekends. Los Cucos has a Cinco Ranch location with a packed Sunday brunch. Chuy's along I-10 covers the Austin-style margarita and creamy jalapeño slot. For more authentic interior-Mexican, Pico's has a Katy outpost serving the Mexico City menu the original Bellaire location made famous.
Old Katy and craft-beer adjacent
No.Eighteen and Snappy's Café & Grill anchor the slower, character-driven Old Katy core, patios, brunches, neighborhood vibe. Local Foods opened a Katy outpost that delivers the same farm-to-counter sandwiches as the inner-loop locations. For BBQ, J. Carver's and Pinkerton's Barbecue (the Heights export, with a Katy location) split the field. Most of these run $15 to $30 per head.
Breakfast and brunch
Snooze A.M. Eatery at LaCenterra is the prevailing Sunday wait. Snappy's Café & Grill does diner-style without the chain feel. Black Walnut Café handles the all-day brunch slot. The Toasted Yolk has a pair of Katy locations covering the rest of the demand.
Where Katy locals send out-of-town guests
When Houston relatives drive out to visit, the Katy itinerary tends to land on Babin's for dinner, Snooze for brunch, and Snappy's for the actual locals-vs-tourists test. The honest take
Katy will not out-restaurant the inner Loop. It won't out-Bayou-City Montrose, Rice Village, or the Heights. What it does well is mid-range, family-friendly, parking-available dining at scale, and a handful of standout date-night rooms at LaCenterra. If you're moving here from out of state, you won't starve. If you're moving from inside the Loop, you'll learn to drive.
