- Best Sports Bars in Houston: Game-Day Bars Near Every Stadium
In Houston, the best seat for an away game is a barstool. You can watch the Astros on a 30-foot screen inside a downtown hotel, catch a Premier League match over a proper Sunday roast, or play a pickup game of indoor soccer before the Dynamo kick off down the street.
This is our shortlist of sports bars worth planning a game day around. It's organized by stadium, so you can drink near the action whether you have tickets or not, and every bar on it was checked against its own official website.
The quick list
- Before an Astros or Rockets game: Biggio's or Tom's Watch Bar, both downtown.
- The Astros party without a ticket: Little Woodrow's EaDo, which calls itself Astros Gameday HQ.
- Before a Dynamo or Dash match: Pitch 25, a soccer-first beer park in EaDo.
- Closest to Reliant Stadium: Red River Ice House, around the corner on South Main.
- For Premier League mornings: The Red Lion on South Shepherd.
- For a huge group: Kirby Ice House, which says it has the biggest patio in Texas.
- For wings and a game: Pluckers on the West Loop.
How we chose
We looked for bars where the game is the point: lots of screens, the sound on for big games, and a crowd that cares. Each pick had to show current hours or an active schedule on its official website when we checked. We favored local bars and stadium-adjacent spots over national chains, with two exceptions that earn their place.
Hours change with the sports calendar, and some bars open early for day games or add days in football season. Treat every schedule below as "typically" and check the bar's site before you go. Age rules come from each bar's own site.
Near Daikin Park and Toyota Center
Biggio's
Downtown, inside the Marriott Marquis Houston, 1777 Walker St · hotel sports bar · open daily
Biggio's was created in partnership with Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, and the centerpiece is two 30-foot LED screens. It sits at the corner of Walker Street and Avenida de las Americas, and the bar points out that you can walk to Daikin Park, Toyota Center and Shell Energy Stadium from its front door.
What to order: the BBQ mac and cheese, which Biggio's calls its signature, or loaded nachos for the table.
Know before you go: it typically opens at 11 a.m. daily and stays open until midnight, or 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations are taken through its website, and they're worth it on Astros game nights.
Tom's Watch Bar
Downtown, GreenStreet, 1201 Caroline St · stadium-style screens · reservations
Tom's is built like a stadium concourse, with oversized screens it describes as a 360-degree viewing setup. It sits in GreenStreet, steps from Toyota Center and less than a mile from Daikin Park, so it fills up before and after Rockets games and concerts. Its site lists upcoming games and lets you reserve seats for a specific one, which takes the guesswork out of a big Sunday.
What to order: the menu leans elevated sports-bar, and it marks vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
Know before you go: it typically opens at 4 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends.
Near Shell Energy Stadium in EaDo
Little Woodrow's EaDo
EaDo, 801 St Emanuel St · patio sports bar · open until 2 a.m.
This is the Astros party for people without tickets. Little Woodrow's EaDo calls itself "Astros Gameday HQ," opens early for Astros day games, and has 30 to 50 TVs, a patio bar and yard games. Settle a bet with a loser-pays round of cornhole.
Insider tip: the age rule follows the ballgame. The bar is strictly 21+ after 7 p.m. or from the seventh inning of Astros home games, and anyone under 21 before then needs a parent or guardian. Check its site for the exact wording before you bring the family.
Happy hour: typically Monday to Thursday 3 to 7 p.m. and Friday from noon.
Pitch 25
EaDo, 2120 Walker St · soccer beer park · open daily
Pitch 25 is a 25,000-square-foot beer park "just blocks from the stadium," with plenty of screens, a beer garden and something no other bar on this list has: its own indoor soccer field. You can rent it for a match or a birthday, then celebrate at the bar.
I didn't know that: Pitch 25 runs drop-in pickup games through its P25 program. They're 60 minutes, for ages 18 and up with ID, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights plus weekend mornings. The house rules are strict: no soccer cleats, indoor shoes or sneakers only.
Know before you go: check its site for current hours before you go. It's the natural pregame before a match at Shell Energy Stadium. See our Houston Dynamo hub for the schedule.
Near Reliant Stadium
Red River Ice House
South Main, 10308 S Main St · icehouse sports bar · dog-friendly patio
Red River bills itself as one of the closest sports bars to the stadium, "just around the corner" on the South Loop. It's a proper icehouse: Texas craft beer on tap from breweries like Saint Arnold, Karbach and Galveston Island Brewing, serious mixed drinks, every major game on the big screens and a dog-friendly patio that's open year round, with covered seating and dartboards.
Insider tip: Red River is typically closed on Sundays for most of the year and opens on Sundays once football season starts. That tells you everything about who it's for. Weekday hours typically start in the late afternoon.
Best for: pre-game shots and the post-game party after a Texans game at Reliant Stadium.
Little Woodrow's Bellaire
Southwest Houston, 4235 Bellaire Blvd · the original Little Woodrow's · 21+
This is where the Little Woodrow's story starts. The Bellaire location calls itself the original Little Woodrow's and a Southwest Houston staple, and it bills itself as the Official UH Gameday HQ. Expect a patio bar, outdoor seating, yard games and 13-plus HD TVs. It's strictly 21 and up at all times.
Best for: Cougars fans, and a lower-key place to watch the game on the Reliant side of town.
Pluckers Wing Bar
Meyerland, 8731 West Loop S · wings and TVs
Pluckers is a Texas chain, but it earns a spot for wings, sauces and a reliable game-day crowd. The company story starts with two University of Texas freshmen whose only late-night delivery options were pizza and Chinese food. They opened the first Pluckers on July 23, 1995, in a building they rebuilt themselves.
Know before you go: the Meyerland location sits on the West Loop, a short drive from Reliant Park. Inside the Loop, there's a second one at 1400 Shepherd Dr.
For soccer and Premier League mornings
The Red Lion
South Shepherd, 2316 S Shepherd Dr · British pub · open daily
The Red Lion describes itself as Houston's oldest British pub and says it's 100% British-owned. It shows "all the big games live during business hours": Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League, rugby, major European tournaments and US sports.
What to order: the weekly specials are the move. Tuesday is Pie & a Pint, Wednesday is Curry & a Pint, Friday is beer-battered cod with hand-cut fries and peas, and Sunday is a proper roast with lamb or beef.
Insider tip: weekend doors typically open at 10 a.m., in time for many weekend Premier League kickoffs.
Big patios and big groups
Kirby Ice House
Upper Kirby, 3333 Eastside St · giant patio · 21+
Kirby Ice House says it has the biggest patio in Texas, with over 30,000 square feet of space, big screens and more than 60 beers on tap. Food comes from rotating food trucks, and you're welcome to bring your own or have it delivered. It's dog-friendly and 21+ at all times.
Insider tip: for a watch party, Kirby offers complimentary reservations for groups of 25 to more than 1,000, with no venue fee. There are also locations in the Heights, Memorial, The Woodlands and Clear Lake.
Know before you go: it typically opens at 2 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends, and stays open until 2 a.m.
