- Mini Golf and Go-Karts in Houston: 10 Places to Putt and Race
Houston's mini golf has gone high-tech and learned to mix a cocktail, and its go-kart tracks run from glowing indoor electric circuits to open-air gas tracks. Between the two, you can putt past a windmill at 11 p.m. downtown, race a multi-level kart track in Katy, or drive a gas kart around an open-air circuit in Conroe on a Saturday afternoon.
This is our shortlist of mini golf, Topgolf-style driving bays and go-kart tracks around Houston, sorted by what you're in the mood for. Every place on it was checked as open on its own official website in October 2026.
The quick list
- For a downtown night out: Puttshack, tech-scored mini golf at The Highlight at Houston Center.
- For three courses in one stop: Puttery on Washington Avenue, with 27 holes across three themed rooms.
- For an outdoor family afternoon: PopStroke in Katy, with two courses, a playground and an ice cream parlor.
- For a driving-range party: Topgolf, with three Houston-area venues.
- For the fastest indoor laps: K1 Speed on the Northwest Freeway or Andretti in Katy.
- For real outdoor karting: Speedsportz Racing Park in New Caney or Houston Karting Complex in Conroe.
- For the strangest tee time in town: the virtual golf bays inside Spa World, a Korean spa in Katy.
How we chose
We looked for places where mini golf, golf games or go-karts are the main event, not an afterthought. Each one had to show current hours or booking on its official website as of October 2026. We left out places that have closed or paused: Celebration Station, long a Houston go-kart and mini golf name, no longer lists a Houston park, and the karting track at MSR Houston in Angleton says it is temporarily closed.
Hours, prices and age rules change, so treat everything below as "typically" and check the official site before you go. Most kart tracks also require a signed waiver, so fill it in online to skip the line.
Mini golf
Puttshack Houston
Downtown, The Highlight at Houston Center, 1200 McKinney St · indoor · open daily
Puttshack is mini golf with a scoreboard brain. The ball tracks your shots and scoring is automatic. A game is nine holes and typically takes 30 to 45 minutes, which makes it an easy add before or after dinner downtown. It's a full bar and restaurant too, and it typically stays open until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Insider tip: park in The Highlight's garage (entrances on Austin and Caroline streets) and get your ticket validated with a purchase. Book ahead for nights and weekends; walk-ins are first come, first served. Make a night of it with our downtown Houston guide.
Best for: date night, office outings and anyone who thinks putt-putt needs more data.
Puttery Houston
Washington Avenue, 1818 Washington Ave · indoor · open daily
Puttery puts three themed nine-hole courses under one roof: the Conservatory, the Lodge and the Library. Play one, or play all 27 holes, then settle in at the cocktail bar or the kitchen.
Know before you go: all ages are welcome all day Sunday to Thursday, but on Fridays and Saturdays it's 18 and over after 5 p.m. Free two-hour parking is on Center Street.
Best for: groups who want a little golf and a lot of hanging out.
PopStroke Houston @ Katy
Katy, 23110 Grand Circle Blvd · outdoor · open daily
PopStroke is the outdoor answer to the indoor putting bars: two full outdoor putting courses with synthetic greens, bunkers and real breaks, plus a kids playground, an ice cream parlor, a rooftop bar and a full-service restaurant. Order through the app and food comes to you on the course.
Insider tip: families who come often should look at the kids membership, which PopStroke says covers unlimited golf plus a free kids meal every day.
Best for: families with kids of every age, and anyone who wants to putt in the open air. More ideas nearby are in our things to do in Katy guide.
SpindleTap Brewery
North Houston, 10622 Hirsch Rd · brewery with outdoor putt-putt · closed Mondays
The most relaxed mini golf in town comes with a pint. SpindleTap's outdoor park has covered seating, a stage and a putt-putt course, plus cornhole, pickleball and horseshoes. It's a weekend afternoon in one place: play a round, grab a beer, repeat.
Know before you go: taproom hours are shorter early in the week, and the brewery says private events can change them, so check before you drive. More taprooms are in our best breweries in Houston guide.
Best for: grown-ups who want golf without the pressure.
Topgolf-style driving bays
Topgolf (three Houston-area venues)
West Houston (1030 Memorial Brook Blvd), Spring (560 Spring Park Center Blvd) and Webster (21401 Gulf Fwy) · open daily
Each Houston-area Topgolf is a three-level venue with more than 100 all-weather hitting bays, Toptracer games, a rooftop terrace, a full restaurant and bar, and more than 200 TVs. You don't need to be a golfer: the games score targets, not handicaps, and clubs are provided. Bays are booked by the hour and hold up to six players.
Know before you go: guests under 16 must be supervised by someone 21 or older at all times, and after 9 p.m. that rule extends to anyone under 18. Pick the venue nearest you: the Webster location is handy for a Clear Lake day (see our Clear Lake guide), and the Spring one pairs with Old Town Spring.
Best for: birthday groups, team outings and rainy or chilly days, since the bays are built for all weather.
Spa World Houston golf bays
Katy, 929 Westgreen Blvd · indoor virtual golf
Here's one most Houstonians don't know: Spa World, the big Korean spa in Katy, has indoor virtual golf bays and private golf rooms. You don't need to buy spa admission if you only want to golf. Spa World says golf-only guests can come in through the back entrance, and lessons are offered too. One catch: bring your own clubs, because the spa says golfers must.
Know before you go: golf is priced per person, per game, with higher weekend rates, so check the current prices on the golf and karaoke page. Karaoke rooms are next door if the round goes badly.
Best for: a quiet practice session, or the most unexpected birthday invitation of the year.
Indoor go-karts
K1 Speed Houston
Northwest Houston, 14900 Northwest Fwy · indoor electric karting · open daily
K1 Speed has been racing in Houston since 2012 and calls itself the first all-electric karting location in the city. The electric karts are quick (K1 says they reach nearly 45 mph) and the whole thing is air-conditioned. Between races, there's an arcade with billiards and air hockey and the Paddock Lounge for food and drinks.
Insider tip: look for Glo Karting on Friday evenings, when the track gets special glow lighting. Check the site for the current schedule and height requirements before you bring young drivers.
Best for: competitive friends who want lap times to argue about.
Andretti Indoor Karting & Games Katy
Katy, 1230 Grand West Blvd · indoor karting and games · open daily
Andretti is the big one: more than 90,000 square feet with three kart tracks, including a high-speed multi-level track, plus more than 150 arcade games, a two-story laser tag arena, virtual reality and a full kitchen and bar overlooking the track.
The kid-friendly detail: Andretti's Mini Mario race is built for little drivers, starting at age 3 and 36 inches tall (recommended for ages 4 to 6). The Junior race asks for 48 inches, and the fastest adult race asks for 54 inches and drivers 18 or older, or 15 and up with a state-issued license or permit.
Best for: families with a wide age spread, since everyone gets a track. Dinner ideas are in our Katy restaurant guide.
Outdoor go-kart tracks
Speedsportz Racing Park
New Caney, State Hwy 242 at US 59/I-69 · outdoor gas karts · open to the public Wednesday to Sunday
If indoor electric karts feel too tame, this is a real outdoor track northeast of town, with rental karts, leagues and endurance races. Each race is a 10-minute session and you don't need a reservation. Drivers must be at least 14 years old and 60 inches tall. For ages 8 to 13, there are two-seater karts driven by a member of the track crew (call ahead to confirm they're available).
Know before you go: there are no refunds for weather delays, and you can bring your own DOT-certified closed-face helmet or buy a head sock.
Best for: teens and adults who want speed and fresh air.
Houston Karting Complex
Conroe, 3528 S Loop 336 East · outdoor rental karts
HKC is an open-to-the-public rental kart track north of The Woodlands, with 10-minute races, league nights and a lap-times board. Drivers must be 12 or older and at least 55 inches tall. Double-seater karts let a driver 16 or older take a passenger as young as 5 (and at least 42 inches tall).
Know before you go: the track closes for bad weather and posts updates on its social pages, so call ahead after a storm. Reservations aren't needed, but call if you're bringing a group of 10 or more. Make it a day with our The Woodlands guide.
Best for: a north-side weekend outing with real engine noise.
Save this: the Katy double-header
The Katy side of town has four of the places on this list, which makes it the easiest putt-and-race day in greater Houston.
- Morning: two outdoor courses at PopStroke, before the afternoon heat.
- Lunch: stay at PopStroke's restaurant, or head to one of the Katy restaurants in the guide linked above.
- Afternoon: indoor laps and arcade games at Andretti, where the air conditioning is part of the appeal.
- Evening: bays at Topgolf on Memorial Brook Boulevard, or a quieter round of virtual golf at Spa World.
Before you go: a quick checklist
- Check hours on the official site the day you go, especially at outdoor tracks, which close for rain.
- Sign kart waivers online in advance. Minors usually need a parent or guardian to sign.
- Measure your kids. Kart tracks set rules by height as well as age, and the cutoffs differ at each one.
- Wear closed-toe shoes for karting and tie back long hair.
- Book Topgolf bays and evening mini golf ahead on weekends.
- Know the late-night rules: Topgolf and Puttery both limit minors at night.
- In summer, putt outdoors in the morning and save indoor venues for the afternoon.
