Best Bars in Katy, TX: Patios, Sports Bars, Wine and Whiskey

Date Published

Bars in Katy illustration: water tower, string lights, beer, wine and whiskey glasses at night

Katy was first known as Cane Island. The Texas State Historical Association says the name "Katy" may have come from the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad, nicknamed the "Katy," or from the name of a local saloonkeeper's wife. Either way, your first round in Katy comes with a little railroad history.

Today the bars in Katy run from a hometown brewery near the old rail town to sports bars with dozens of screens, a wine cafe with glass walls that open to the patio, and a Korean soju lounge with karaoke. This guide is the shortlist we'd hand a friend who just moved out west and wants to know where to go on a Friday.

What counts as Katy here

Katy is bigger than its city limits. For this guide, "Katy" means the City of Katy plus the Katy-addressed communities around it: Cinco Ranch and LaCenterra, the South Mason Road corridor, and the stretch of I-10 and the Grand Parkway around Katy Mills and Katy Asian Town. Every bar below has a Katy mailing address (ZIP codes 77449, 77450, 77493 or 77494). We left out Fulshear, Brookshire, Richmond and the Energy Corridor, even where locals would call them "Katy area."

The quick list

  • The local original: No Label Brewing, Katy's hometown brewery.
  • Best for a game with 30-plus TVs: Little Woodrow's Katy, which also races turtles.
  • Best for pinball and darts: EinStein's Pub, pouring on South Mason since 1996.
  • Best cheap night out with games: Bourbon Street Sports Bar, with free Texas Hold'em every night.
  • Best wine date: Postino Cinco Ranch in LaCenterra.
  • Best whiskey and dinner: Whiskey Cake.
  • Best patio with a scene: MidPoint Bar + Eatery's garden terrace.
  • Best for something completely different: Soju 101, a Korean bar, kitchen and karaoke lounge.

How we chose

We looked for bars with a clear reason to go: a great patio, a game-day setup, a serious drink list, live music, or a night you can't easily get anywhere else in Katy. Every bar on this list showed current hours on its own official website when we checked in October 2026. We left out places we couldn't confirm on an official site, so a few well-loved Katy names are missing for now. We'll add them once we can.

Hours, happy hours and age rules change. Treat every detail below as "typically," and check the bar's own site before you go.

Breweries and icehouse-style hangs

No Label Brewing Co.

City of Katy, 5351 1st St · brewery taproom · open daily

No Label is Katy's hometown brewery and the easiest answer to "where do we take visitors?" The taproom typically opens every day: afternoons Monday to Thursday, from noon on Friday through Sunday, with later nights on Friday and Saturday. The brewery says its hefeweizen is the longest-running and top-selling Houston-based hefeweizen ever made, so that's the beer to start with. Each month it also releases a new seasonal at the taproom.

Why it's on the list: it's the bar that's actually from Katy. Pair it with dinner from our Katy restaurant guide, and if you want more taprooms, see our best breweries in Houston.

Little Woodrow's Katy

Katy Freeway, 22225 Katy Fwy · sports bar and patio · 21+

Little Woodrow's is a Texas chain, but the Katy location earns its spot with more than 30 HD TVs, a patio bar and yard games. The bar lists turtle racing on its events calendar, along with handbag bingo, watch parties for big college and UFC nights, and Oktoberfest. It's strictly 21 and up at all times.

What to order: whatever's on the weekday happy hour, which typically runs from noon to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Why it's on the list: it's the closest thing Katy has to an inner-loop icehouse, and the turtle races are the story you'll tell on Monday.

Sports bars and game rooms

EinStein's Pub

South Mason Road, 873 S Mason Rd · pub and game room · 21+

EinStein's has been open since 1996, a long run in a suburb that has changed this much. Expect pool, pinball, darts and Golden Tee, plus DJs on weekends and pinball tournaments and trivia nights on its social pages. Happy hour typically runs 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.

What to order: a draft beer and the Sunday burger special.

Why it's on the list: it's a real neighborhood bar, and the pinball crowd takes it seriously.

Bourbon Street Sports Bar

South Mason Road, 803 S Mason Rd · sports bar · open daily

Just up South Mason from EinStein's, Bourbon Street is all about the games: 23 HD TVs, seven projection screens, six pool tables, darts and beer pong. The best detail is the free Texas Hold'em game, which it says runs every night at 7:30 p.m. Karaoke and live music show up on the calendar too.

Why it's on the list: it's the place to watch the Texans or an Astros game at Daikin Park on a budget, then stay for poker.

Stars Sports Bar & Grill

Grand Parkway, 414 W Grand Pkwy S · upscale sports bar · open daily

Stars has been in Katy since 2006 and calls itself an upscale neighborhood sports bar. It's typically open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week, with Golden Tee, plenty of TVs and a Thursday pitcher special.

What to order: a domestic pitcher and the loaded nachos on a Thursday.

Why it's on the list: a sports bar where you can get a real dinner, south of I-10.

BoomerJack's Grill & Bar

Katy Grand, 1110 Grand West Blvd · sports bar · dog-friendly patio

BoomerJack's is a Texas sports-bar chain, and its Katy location is open every day from late morning until 2 a.m. The patio is dog-friendly.

Why it's on the list: a reliable game-day room near I-10 and the Grand Parkway, with a patio where the dog can come too.

Wine, whiskey and cocktails

Postino Cinco Ranch

LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch, 23501 Cinco Ranch Blvd · wine cafe and patio

Postino is the wine-bar answer in Katy. Before 5 p.m. it typically pours $6 glasses of wine and $6 pitchers of beer. On Monday and Tuesday nights after 8 p.m., its "Board + Bottle" deal pairs a board of bruschetta with a bottle of wine for $25. It's card and mobile payment only.

What to order: the bruschetta board, then a bottle to share.

Why it's on the list: it's the easiest date night in Katy, and the patio faces LaCenterra.

Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar

Grand Parkway at I-10, 23139 Grand Circle Blvd · whiskey bar and kitchen

Whiskey Cake describes itself as an everyday tavern with farm-fresh comfort food and craft cocktails. The bar runs a barrel-select whiskey program and "garden-to-glass" cocktails with house-made syrups and fresh juice. Weekend hours start at 10 a.m., so it works for brunch drinks too.

What to order: a pour from the barrel-select list, then the namesake whiskey cake for dessert.

Why it's on the list: the best whiskey-and-dinner combination on our Katy shortlist.

MidPoint Bar + Eatery

Near LaCenterra, 25600 Westheimer Pkwy · cocktail bar, hookah lounge and garden terrace

MidPoint is really three spaces: a bar and restaurant, a hookah lounge and an open-air garden terrace. Expect live music, weekend brunch and Turkish coffee alongside the cocktails. It typically opens at 2 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends, and stays open until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

What to order: the espresso martini, then the mezze.

Why it's on the list: the garden terrace is our pick for a dressed-up night out on a Katy patio.

Live music and late nights

Katy Vibes Restaurant & Bar

West Katy, 24757 Katy Fwy · live music bar · closed Mondays

Katy Vibes mixes a restaurant, a bar and a stage. The calendar runs from jazz to rock bands, plus DJ nights, karaoke and tribute shows. It's typically closed Mondays and stays open until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

What to order: a house cocktail and wings, then stay for the band.

Why it's on the list: most Katy bars play music in the background; here the music is the point.

Soju 101

Katy Asian Town area, 23119 Colonial Pkwy · Korean bar, kitchen and karaoke

Soju 101 is a Korean bar and lounge with a kitchen and karaoke rooms, built around soju cocktails and fusion East Asian food. Weekdays it typically opens at 5:30 p.m., weekends at noon, and it stays open until 2 a.m. every night.

What to order: a soju cocktail and a few plates to share. Hungry first? See our Katy Asian Town restaurant guide.

Why it's on the list: it's open until 2 a.m. every night, and it's the bar on this list most likely to end in a duet.

Save this: a Katy bar night, three ways

Never drink and drive. Katy is spread out, so use a rideshare or a designated driver for any of these.

The game-day route

  1. Weekday happy hour on the patio at Little Woodrow's Katy (check the events page for turtle-race nights).
  2. Kickoff with pool and projectors at Bourbon Street Sports Bar.
  3. One more round and a game of pinball at EinStein's Pub, on the same stretch of South Mason.

The date-night route

  1. Bruschetta and a bottle at Postino Cinco Ranch.
  2. An espresso martini on the terrace at MidPoint, close by.

The "show the visitors Katy" route

  1. Start local at No Label Brewing.
  2. Dinner and a whiskey flight at Whiskey Cake.
  3. Finish with soju and karaoke at Soju 101.

Before you go: a quick checklist

  • Check hours on the bar's own site the day you go. Katy Vibes is typically closed Mondays, and several places open only in the afternoon on weekdays.
  • Bring ID. Little Woodrow's and EinStein's are 21 and up.
  • Bringing the dog? BoomerJack's Katy advertises a dog-friendly patio. Ask anywhere else first.
  • Bring a card. Postino doesn't take cash.
  • Watching a big game? Arrive early at the sports bars, and call ahead for a group.
