Katy Asian Town is the reason people in west Houston say "let's just go to Katy" when they want dim sum. It's a single shopping center on the northeast corner of I-10 and the Grand Parkway, anchored by an H Mart, and in one afternoon you can eat your way from Hong Kong to Taichung to Osaka without moving the car more than once.
This guide covers what Katy Asian Town actually is, the restaurants and dessert shops worth your time, and a simple route for your first visit. Every place on it was checked as operating on its own official website.
What is Katy Asian Town?
Katy Asian Town is a shopping center at 23119 Colonial Parkway, Katy, TX 77449, on the northeast corner of I-10 and the Grand Parkway (TX-99). Its developer describes it as a 100,000-plus-square-foot center built around a 40,000-plus-square-foot H Mart, the Korean American supermarket chain, with restaurants, tea shops, bakeries and services filling the storefronts around it.
Here's the detail most first-timers miss: the center's own website comes in four languages, Chinese, English, Korean and Vietnamese. That's the whole idea in one menu bar. This isn't a single-cuisine strip; it's a Korean grocery, Hong Kong dim sum, Vietnamese noodle houses and Taiwanese and Japanese desserts sharing one parking lot. The center's developers later added neighboring phases on the same corner, so a few favorites sit just across the drive rather than in the main buildings.
If you know Houston's Chinatown on Bellaire Boulevard, think of Katy Asian Town as its west-side cousin: smaller, newer and far easier to park at.
The quick list
- For famous dim sum: Tim Ho Wan, the Hong Kong chain that held a Michelin star.
- For dim sum plus cocktails: Dim Sum Box.
- For a bowl of Vietnamese noodles: Phánh Ký Asian Noodle House.
- For a big family dinner: Tan Tan Wok.
- For Hong Kong cafe comfort food: Jia Kitchen.
- For all-you-can-eat hot pot, late: Chocho Hot Pot.
- For dessert: Meet Fresh, Beard Papa's and Manna Crepe.
- For snacks to take home: H Mart.
How we chose
We picked places in Katy Asian Town or on the same I-10 and Grand Parkway corner that have a clear specialty and a reason to make the drive. Each one had to list its Katy location on its own official website as of October 2026. We left out spots we couldn't confirm that way, including some longtime favorites whose sites were down or blocked when we checked, so treat this as a starting list rather than a complete directory.
Hours below come from each restaurant's site and change often. Treat them as "typically" and check before you go.
Dim sum and Cantonese
Tim Ho Wan
Katy Grand, 23330 Grand Circle Blvd., Suite 180 · dim sum · open daily
Tim Ho Wan opened its first shop in Hong Kong in 2009, founded by chefs including one who had cooked at Lung King Heen, the three-Michelin-star restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong. The chain says it was awarded a Michelin star in Hong Kong in nine consecutive years and bills itself as the world's most inexpensive Michelin-starred restaurant. Its US site lists just five American locations, and this is the Houston one.
What to order: the baked BBQ pork buns, the ones the chain calls world-famous, plus the steamed rice roll with BBQ pork, pan-fried turnip cake and steamed egg cake. Ask about the "Regional Specialty," a dish that's different at each Tim Ho Wan location.
Insider tip: weekend hours typically start at 10 a.m., an hour earlier than weekdays. Get there at opening to beat the dim sum rush.
Dim Sum Box
Grand West Blvd., Katy · dim sum and cocktail bar
Fung's Kitchen, the Southwest Freeway dim sum hall, points diners to Dim Sum Box from its own website, so think of it as the west-side option for that style of cooking. It's a dim sum restaurant with its own cocktail bar, which makes it the easier choice for a dinner date than a weekend dim sum scrum.
What to order: the steamed golden egg yolk lava buns, Shanghai pork soup dumplings and lotus leaf sticky rice. If you're feeding a group, the menu also lists Peking duck.
Best for: dim sum at dinner, with a drink.
Noodles and family-style dinners
Phánh Ký Asian Noodle House
Katy Asian Town, 23119 Colonial Pkwy., #C-11 · Vietnamese noodles
Phánh Ký started on Bellaire Boulevard in 2006 and now has three locations, including this one. It specializes in mì (egg noodles) and hủ tiếu (rice noodles), and its claim to fame is a house-made dry sauce from the founder's mother's recipe.
What to order: the soft rice noodles, hủ tiếu mềm, with shrimp and pork. Order it dry ("khô") so you get the signature sauce, with a side of broth. Kid-size noodle bowls are on the menu too.
Best for: a fast, filling lunch. Pair it with our best Vietnamese restaurants in Houston guide for the Bellaire side of the family.
Tan Tan Wok
Katy Asian Town, 23119 Colonial Pkwy., #B12 · Chinese and Vietnamese · open daily
Tan Tan Wok belongs to the Tan Tan family of restaurants; its sister, Jia Kitchen, traces the family business to Tan Tan Fast Food, established in 1986. The menu blends Chinese and Vietnamese cooking, which the restaurant says reflects the family's own background, and it's built for sharing: clay pots, sizzling seafood plates, crispy noodles and fried flat rice noodles.
Best for: a big table and a lazy Susan's worth of dishes. Typically open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Jia Kitchen
Katy Asian Town, 23119 Colonial Pkwy., Suite B11 · Hong Kong-style cafe dishes · open daily
Next door to Tan Tan Wok and from the same family, Jia Kitchen is the casual sister. The name stands for "Just Incredibly Amazing," and the menu reads like a Hong Kong cafe crossed with a Vietnamese kitchen: broken rice plates, macaroni with roasted chicken or beef steak cubes, noodle soups and clay pot rice soups.
What to order: the trio grill with broken rice, or the clay pot slow-cooked rice soup with sea bass on a cool evening.
Good to know: the restaurant's site says online orders are picked up at Tan Tan Wok next door.
Chocho Hot Pot
22811 Mercantile Pkwy., Katy · premium all-you-can-eat hot pot · open late
Chocho is a short drive from the main center, and it's the area's late-night option. It's an individual-pot, all-you-can-eat hot pot restaurant with locations in Canada and Texas. You build your own pot from its selection of broths and ingredients.
Insider tip: Chocho typically stays open until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, long after most of Katy Asian Town has closed. The site also takes reservations, which helps for groups.
Dessert, tea and sweets
Meet Fresh
Katy Asian Town, 23119 Colonial Pkwy., Building B, Unit 13 · Taiwanese desserts
Meet Fresh is a Taiwanese dessert chain whose founders, a brother and sister, grew up in a farming family in Taichung. It's known for chewy taro balls, herbal grass jelly, shaved ice and egg waffles. Houston's other Meet Fresh is in Bellaire Food Street in Chinatown, so this is the west side's outpost.
What to order: the icy grass jelly with taro balls in summer, hot red bean soup in winter, or an egg waffle to walk around with.
Beard Papa's
Katy Asian Town, 23119 Colonial Pkwy. · Japanese cream puffs
Here's the story to tell the kids in the back seat: Beard Papa's began in 1999 as a small bakery in Osaka, Japan, and the owner's fluffy white beard was so well known that regulars nicknamed him "Beard Papa." The name stuck. Today the chain fills choux pastry shells with cream to order.
What to order: a box of cream puffs to share, and take a couple home. They're best the day you buy them.
Manna Crepe
Katy Asian Town, 23119 Colonial Pkwy., Ste. C-8 · Japanese crepes and mochi waffles · open daily
Manna Crepe's owners say the idea started at a tiny creperie in Harajuku, Japan. It makes sweet and savory Japanese crepes to order, plus chewy mochi waffles, gelato, matcha and coffee.
What to order: the strawberry Nutella or tiramisu crepe for dessert, or the chicken teriyaki crepe if you want something savory. Typically open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
The anchor: H Mart Katy
H Mart
Katy Asian Town · Korean American supermarket with a food court
H Mart is the reason the center exists. Katy Asian Town's developer calls it the anchor, and H Mart's own store listings show the Katy store with a food court. Use it as your last stop: banchan, frozen dumplings, instant noodles, snacks and Asian produce to take home after you've eaten.
Insider tip: go after you eat, never before. Shopping hungry at H Mart is how you end up with three kinds of rice cakes.
Save this: a first-visit route
Plan about three hours and bring a cooler bag for the H Mart run.
- Late morning: dim sum at Tim Ho Wan right when it opens.
- Walk it off: browse the storefronts in the main Katy Asian Town buildings.
- Dessert one: taro balls or shaved ice at Meet Fresh.
- Dessert two, to go: a box from Beard Papa's.
- Last stop: H Mart for snacks and groceries on the way out.
Evening version: noodles at Phánh Ký, a crepe at Manna Crepe, then late-night hot pot at Chocho if you're still hungry.
Before you go: a quick checklist
- Check each restaurant's hours on its own site the day you go.
- Go early on weekends. Dim sum is busiest around lunch.
- Some places are a short drive from the main buildings: Tim Ho Wan is in Katy Grand on Grand Circle Boulevard, and Chocho and Dim Sum Box are on nearby streets.
- Bring a cooler bag if you're shopping at H Mart.
- Big group? Tan Tan Wok and Chocho are your best bets.
