How we chose

Every indoor rink on this list had a live schedule at time of writing. Hours and admission change frequently — check each venue's official site before you go.

Outdoor trails for inline and quad skating
Houston's bayou greenway network runs for miles in every direction — flat, paved, and mostly separated from car traffic. Wear wrist guards, knee pads, and a helmet. Weekend afternoons bring cyclists and runners, so pick your timing.
Terry Hershey Park Trail — West Houston
Harris County Precinct 4's trail follows Buffalo Bayou west of Highway 6, running about 10 paved miles and connecting to George Bush Park for up to 22 continuous miles. The surface is asphalt and concrete, flat throughout. Trailheads with parking are located along Eldridge Parkway. Free, open daily.
White Oak Bayou Greenway — Heights to Downtown
Starting in the Heights and heading northwest, White Oak Bayou Greenway covers 15 to 16 continuous paved miles through Woodland Park, Stude Park, and T.C. Jester Park, with only three at-grade street crossings. It connects to the MKT Trail and the 11th Street Bikeway, making it one of the most seamless routes in the city for uninterrupted skating.
Brays Bayou Greenway — South Houston
One of the longest trails in the greenway system at approximately 30 miles, Brays Bayou Greenway runs east-west across southwest Houston — through Meyerland, past Hermann Park and the Texas Medical Center, and continuing east toward the Ship Channel. Paved concrete and asphalt throughout, flat grade. Multiple trailhead entry points — check the Houston parks guide for locations.
Buffalo Bayou Park — Midtown and Downtown
The paved trail along Buffalo Bayou Park runs between Shepherd Drive and Sabine Street, with the Downtown skyline visible for much of the route. See the Buffalo Bayou Park visitor guide for parking, restrooms, and access points. Free, open daily.

Weekend crowds concentrate near the east end; head west of 25th Street for more open skating room.

- Adult nights at Dairy Ashford (Thursday 8–11 pm, Friday 9–11 pm) are 18-plus. Bring a government ID.
- Rentals — quad and inline — are available at every rink on this list.

Before any outdoor trail visit:
- Wear wrist guards, knee pads, and a helmet. Bayou trail surfaces have seams, and pedestrian and cyclist traffic is heavy on weekends.
