Best Coffee Shops in the Galleria and Uptown: 12 Picks and a Route

Coffee shops Galleria and Uptown illustration: latte cup, Waterwall arch and Houston night skyline

The best coffee shops in the Galleria and Uptown area of Houston include Giant Leap Coffee in Uptown Park, The Coffee Garden in Conservatory Galleria, Bluestone Lane on Post Oak Boulevard and French Riviera Bakery Cafe on Chimney Rock. Uptown doesn't do coffee on street corners. It does coffee in hotel lobbies, food halls, department stores and strip centers, and the good stuff is easy to drive past at 40 miles an hour on Westheimer. Once you know which doors to open, though, you can get an Australian-style flat white, a latte built on beans blended in Italy, and a plate of knafeh at 11 p.m., all within a couple of miles of the Galleria.

This is our shortlist of coffee shops in the Galleria and Uptown, sorted by what you need from them: a serious cup, a place to work, a pastry, or a drive-thru on the way to the office. Every pick was checked as operating on its own official website in October 2026.

The one-line version

The best coffee in Uptown is hiding in plain sight: in a food hall, a hotel lobby and a 1977 French bakery, not on the boulevard.

How we define the Galleria and Uptown

The official Uptown management district is fairly tight, centered on Post Oak Boulevard and Westheimer Road. For this guide we use a slightly wider box that matches how most Houstonians talk about "the Galleria area": Woodway Drive to the north, the West Loop (I-610) to the east, Richmond Avenue to the south and Chimney Rock Road to the west. That takes in Post Oak Boulevard, Uptown Park, the Galleria itself, the Tanglewood stretch of San Felipe and the strip centers along Westheimer out to Fountain View.

Highland Village, Upper Kirby and River Oaks sit just east of the Loop, so they're not on this list. For more on the neighborhood, start with our Galleria/Uptown area page.

How we chose

We looked for coffee shops with a real reason to pick them over the nearest chain: specialty coffee, a room you can actually work in, a great pastry case, or a drive-thru when you can't face a parking garage. Each pick had to show a current Uptown address or listing on its official website, its official store locator, or its landlord's official directory. We left out spots whose websites were down or no longer listed a location, rather than guess whether they're open.

Hours below come from each shop's own site. They change, so treat them as "typically" and check before you go.

Specialty coffee and independent shops

Giant Leap Coffee

Uptown Park, 1135 Uptown Park Blvd · specialty coffee · typically 7 a.m.–6 p.m. daily

Giant Leap is a space-themed shop that serves locally roasted coffee and rotates in a guest roaster every month. It opened in January 2018 and moved to Uptown Park in September 2020. The menu is where it gets playful: the Milky Way is inspired by Vietnamese iced coffee, the I.S.S. is a latte inspired by halvah, and the Golden Milk is a ginger and turmeric latte. There's ceremonial matcha, pastries and breakfast tacos too.

Insider tip: order ahead online on busy weekday mornings and you're in and out before the Uptown Park lot fills.

Best for: coffee people who like a menu with a sense of humor.

The Coffee Garden

Conservatory Galleria, 5353 W Alabama St, Suite 100 · coffee bar in a food hall · typically 8 a.m.–6 p.m. daily

This is the laptop pick. The Coffee Garden sits inside the Conservatory Galleria food hall, a few blocks from the mall, and the building provides free fiber Wi-Fi, more than 25 power outlets around the booths, tables and bar seating, and free parking in the front lot and garage (enter from South Rice Avenue). Syrups are made in house. Try the Ube Cloud Latte, or the caffeine-free Purple Goddess, made with hibiscus tea, cinnamon and pineapple juice.

Good to know: this location serves drinks in to-go cups only. When the coffee runs out, lunch is a few steps away in the food hall.

Best for: a full workday, a study session or a meeting that doesn't need a conference room.

Bluestone Lane

Post Oak Plaza, Post Oak Blvd · Australian-style cafe · check its site for hours

Bluestone Lane brings Australian-style cafe culture to Post Oak Plaza, and the drink to order is the flat white, which the brand calls an Australian classic: double espresso with steamed milk and a thin layer of microfoam. The food menu leans on toasts, including avocado toast, salmon toast and a banana toast with almond butter and honey, plus bowls and pastries. Non-coffee drinkers get matcha lattes, golden lattes, smoothies and juices.

Best for: a polished breakfast meeting or a post-workout coffee.

Minuti Coffee

Westheimer and Fountain View, 5903 Westheimer Rd · Italian espresso bar · check its site for hours

Here's the fact most regulars don't know: Minuti's blends aren't roasted in Houston. The company says every blend is created by its roastmaster in Italy, sealed and flown to its U.S. depots. It describes itself as an American company selling 100% Italian coffee, with roots in the Molinari coffee family of Modena. The Westheimer shop is a reliable stop for a straightforward cappuccino on the western edge of Uptown.

Best for: espresso drinkers who like their coffee classic, not candied.

Bakery cafes, lobbies and late nights

French Riviera Bakery Cafe

Richmond Ave at Fairdale Ln, 3100 Chimney Rock Rd, Suite B · French bakery and cafe · typically 7:30 a.m.–2 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday, closed Sunday

French Riviera has been baking for Houstonians since 1977. It started as a boulangerie and grew into a cafe supplied by its own on-site bakehouse, with baguettes baked fresh daily, almond croissants, chocolate eclairs and lattes served all day. Look for the red brick building under black awnings. There's also a shelf of goods imported from France, like tins of Trinitaine butter galettes, which make an easy hostess gift.

Insider tip: it closes early afternoon and all day Sunday, so plan a weekday or Saturday morning.

Best for: a croissant and latte breakfast, and picking up a baguette on the way home. More ideas in our best bakeries in Houston guide.

Flo Paris

5757 Westheimer Rd, Suite 105 · French bakery cafe · typically 7 a.m.–3 p.m., to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday

Flo Paris is a French bakery cafe run by French owners, with viennoiseries, pastries and savory dishes made from traditional recipes. It works with a specialty coffee partner on a coffee menu built to go with both the sweet and savory sides of the case.

Best for: a slow weekend breakfast with something buttery from the viennoiserie case.

Common Bond Bistro & Bakery (Tanglewood)

Tanglewood, 5740 San Felipe St, Suite 130 · bistro and bakery · typically 7 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday–Saturday, 7 a.m.–8 p.m. Sunday

Common Bond opened its first location in Montrose in May 2014, and pastry and custom cakes are still the draw. The Tanglewood bistro is the Uptown outpost, and its long hours make it the rare coffee-and-pastry stop that also works for dinner.

Best for: coffee that turns into lunch, or a cake pickup.

Bouchée Patisserie

The Post Oak Hotel lobby, 1600 West Loop South · pastry and specialty coffee · typically 6:30 a.m.–10 p.m., to midnight Friday and Saturday

Bouchée sits in the main lobby of The Post Oak Hotel and serves specialty coffee alongside house-made bonbons, chocolates, gelato, quiches and celebration cakes. It's the most dressed-up coffee on this list and one of the latest, open until midnight on weekends. A high tea service runs Thursday to Saturday afternoons by reservation; details are on the hotel's site and in our afternoon tea guide.

Best for: a late espresso and a chocolate after dinner nearby.

Taj A Sweet Cafe

5640 Westheimer Rd · Arabic and Turkish sweets cafe · typically 7 a.m.–midnight daily

Taj is a Houston-based maker of Arabic and Turkish sweets, and its cafe pairs hot and cold coffee drinks with a counter of baklava, knafeh, cakes and pistachio croissants. Its Burma with pistachio, fresh pistachios wrapped in a special dough, is the item the shop calls its product of the year. It's open until midnight every day, which makes it Uptown's best answer to "where can we get coffee and dessert at 11?"

Best for: late-night coffee and something sweet to share.

Inside the Galleria and drive-thrus

Nordstrom Ebar

The Galleria, Level 1 next to the Nordstrom entrance · espresso bar · follows store hours, typically 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday–Saturday, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Sunday

When you're mid-shopping and need a reset, Nordstrom Ebar in the Galleria serves made-to-order, handcrafted drinks prepared by baristas, plus pastries. Park in the Red garage for the closest entrance. For the rest of the mall, see our guide to the Galleria.

Best for: a fast latte without leaving the mall.

Starbucks, Westheimer and Post Oak

2521 Post Oak Blvd · drive-thru and cafe

Starbucks' own locator lists this one with a drive-thru, cafe seating, Wi-Fi and mobile ordering. It's the obvious grab-and-go for anyone heading to the Galleria or the towers along Post Oak.

Starbucks, Post Oak Blvd and Post Oak Park

1304 Post Oak Park Dr · drive-thru and cafe

The north-side drive-thru, handy if you're coming down from Woodway or San Felipe. If you're on the southwest side of the district, there's another Starbucks drive-thru at Chimney Rock and Richmond (5540 Richmond Ave).

Best for: both are for commuters who'd rather not park.

Save this: an Uptown coffee morning

  1. 8 a.m.: Flat white and avocado toast at Bluestone Lane on Post Oak.
  2. 9 a.m.: Head south down Post Oak to Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park (2800 Post Oak Blvd, free, typically 9 a.m.–8 p.m.). The 64-foot wall has about 11,000 gallons of water cascading down it, and the 186 live oaks along the lawn were grown in Jacksonville, Florida.
  3. 10 a.m.: Settle in with a laptop and an Ube Cloud Latte at The Coffee Garden.
  4. Afternoon: Shop the Galleria, with an Ebar latte at half time.
  5. After dinner: Coffee and knafeh at Taj A Sweet Cafe, open until midnight.
