- Pumpkin Patches Near Houston: 12 Fall Farms, Mazes and Hayrides
Here's the thing nobody tells you about the pumpkin patch in Houston: the pumpkins mostly aren't from here. Old Time Christmas Tree Farm in Spring says it plainly on its own site. Pumpkins don't grow well in our wet, humid climate, so the farm orders them from family farms in North Texas over the summer and stacks them in piles across the property.
So in Houston, the pumpkin patch is really a pumpkin pile, and that's fine. What you're driving out for is everything around it: hayrides, corn mazes, pig races, barnyard animals, a camel named Karl, and a few hours of sky that isn't framed by a freeway.
Below are the farms that come back every fall, plus in-town patches for when you can't spend half a Saturday in the car. Fall seasons around Houston typically run from late September to early November. Dates, hours and prices change every year, so check each farm's official site before you load up the car.
The quick list
- Biggest all-day festival in this guide: Dewberry Farm in Brookshire, with an 8-acre corn maze and weekend fireworks.
- Best for toddlers: P-6 Farms in Montgomery, which promises not to haunt or spook anyone.
- Best farm with a weekday option: Froberg's Farm in Alvin, where the corn maze is open on weekdays too.
- Best for bringing the dog: Old Time Christmas Tree Farm in Spring, which welcomes leashed pets.
- Best small-kid petting zoo: Old MacDonald's Farm in Humble, open since 1991.
- Best free option close to town: the Nature Discovery Center pumpkin patch in Bellaire.
- Best old-fashioned harvest day: Armand Bayou Nature Center's Fall Festival in Pasadena.
How we chose
We picked farms and patches that come back every year, that give you more to do than buy a pumpkin, and that a Houston family can reach as a day trip. Each one was confirmed on its own official website as running a fall season in October 2026. We left out one-off pop-ups, haunted attractions that are mainly for teens and adults, and events that had already ended for the year.
Most big farms sell timed or online-only tickets, and almost all sell pumpkins separately from admission.
The big fall farms
Dewberry Farm
Brookshire, west of Katy · full-day fall festival · pumpkin patch, corn maze, rides
Dewberry is the one most Houston families mean when they say "the pumpkin farm." It bills its fall festival as over 40 rides and attractions on a working farm spread over 100 acres, including a pumpkin patch, an 8-acre corn maze, a life-sized pumpkin house, a carousel, barnyard animals and a tractor train. Fireworks are on the schedule on Saturdays and Sundays.
Insider tip: stay late. Dewberry's after-dark BOOriffic Nights, with glowing jack-o'-lanterns and three haunts, are included with a regular fall festival ticket. Pick a later entry time and you get both halves of the day for one price. The Halloween candy cannon fires daily at 1pm and 3pm, and kids plan their whole afternoon around it.
Know before you go: the farm is cashless except at the box office and general store, it doesn't allow outside food (there's a picnic area by the entrance), and pets aren't allowed. Parking is free. From Houston, take I-10 west to the FM 359 exit, then follow FM 362 north to the farm. More to do on that side of town is in our Katy guide.
Blessington Farms
Simonton, Fort Bend County · fall festival · pumpkin patch, hay wagon rides, camel feeding
Blessington is a little smaller and calmer than Dewberry, and it has the best mascot in the region. Karl the camel is, in the farm's words, always ready to see guests and get some fresh lettuce, and you can buy feeding tickets on site. Beyond Karl, there's a hay wagon ride around the property, a pumpkin patch with pumpkins sold by size, a pumpkin painting area, a fossil dig, gemstone mining, a jump pad, slide mountain and a corn kernel pit that works like a sandbox.
Why it's on the list: most of the activities are included with admission, so it's an easy, low-stress day with kids under ten. Check the farm's schedule for the open days before you go.
Froberg's Farm
Alvin, south of Pearland · fall festival and corn maze · open weekdays too
Froberg's is a working fruit and vegetable farm best known for spring strawberry picking, and its fall festival is a proper farm day. The corn maze gets a new design every year. Weekends add pig races, a candy cannon, an apple blaster, a jumping pillow and the "Bee Coaster," a string of barrels pulled around the fields by a tractor.
Insider tip: Froberg's opens the corn maze, its kids' play area and flower picking on weekdays too, at a lower price than weekends. If you can take a weekday morning, you'll have the maze mostly to yourself. Grab a treat from the farm's bakery on the way out.
P-6 Farms
Montgomery, northwest of Conroe · weekend fall festival · corn maze, U-pick pumpkins, flower fields
P-6 started as a cattle ranch in 1973, and the family says it opened the area's first corn maze in 2011. Today the weekend fall festival includes a corn maze, a pumpkin patch where you pick your own, flower fields, an animal barn, vintage rides, a roller coaster, giant slides and Farmer Bo's pig races.
Why it's on the list: P-6 is the gentle one. Its own rules say the farm does not haunt or spook, and it asks guests in costume not to scare anyone either. If your youngest is not ready for fake chainsaws, this is your farm. Tickets are sold online only.
Oil Ranch
Hockley, northwest of Houston · fall season · pumpkin patch, hayride, pony rides
Oil Ranch sits about 30 miles northwest of Houston and keeps things classic: a pumpkin patch, hayride, train ride, pony rides, a dairy barn, a petting zoo and fishing. Most activities are included with general admission, and parking is free.
Insider tip: the farm says kids 12 and under get one free pumpkin with admission while the pumpkin patch is open, which is in October only. On weekdays you can bring your own food; on weekends, only bottled water and small snacks for little ones.
Smaller farms and petting-zoo patches
Old Time Christmas Tree Farm
Spring, on Spring Cypress Road · pumpkin patch · leashed pets welcome
This is the farm behind our pumpkin-pile confession, and it's a lovely one. The land has been in the owners' family for over 100 years, and it's been a Christmas tree farm since 1996. In October it turns into a pumpkin patch with a train ride through the Christmas trees, a hayride, a corn maze, a petting zoo and inflatables. There are no online tickets or reservations: you pay at the gate.
Why it's on the list: it's one of the few patches where your dog can come along. Leashed, well-behaved pets are welcome, and the farm hands out doggie bags at the entrance. The patch typically opens Thursday to Sunday in October. Come back after Thanksgiving to cut a tree. More nearby is in our Spring guide.
Old MacDonald's Farm
Humble, on FM 1960 East · petting zoo with a fall pumpkin patch
Old MacDonald's has been introducing Houston kids to goats, pigs, llamas and emus since 1991. From late September through Halloween, admission also covers its pumpkin patch, along with the usual train rides, pony rides and petting zoo barns.
Why it's on the list: every child with paid admission takes home a free pumpkin, and adults can buy one for a few dollars more. You're welcome to bring a picnic, too. It's open daily, which makes it an easy after-school trip on the north side. Pair it with our Humble guide.
7 Acre Wood
Conroe, near The Woodlands · family fun park with fall hayrides
7 Acre Wood is an old-fashioned family park that's open all year, with a petting zoo, mini golf, a zip line, a giant sandbox and a Western play town. In fall, pumpkins arrive and hayrides run on top of the regular activities. It's open Monday to Saturday plus Sunday afternoons, so it works when the big weekend farms don't.
In-town pumpkin patches
Nature Discovery Center Pumpkin Patch
Bellaire, Russ Pitman Park · weekend fall festival · free admission
This two-day festival in Bellaire, just outside the West Loop, is free to enter. You pay for an activity wristband if your kids want the games and crafts, and for whatever pumpkins you take home. Expect live animals, a costume contest, food trucks and a dog costume parade. It typically happens on a weekend in mid-October, rain or shine.
Insider tip: use the curbside pumpkin pick-up. Buy your pumpkins, and staff will load them into your car when you leave, so you're not hauling a wagon of gourds down Newcastle.
ArBOOretum at the Houston Arboretum
Memorial Park · one-day family fall event · ticketed
The Houston Arboretum's biggest family event of the year has a pumpkin patch photo op, pumpkin decorating, live animal programs and a Trick-or-Treat Nature Trail. It's typically one Saturday in October, registration is required, and there's no on-site parking that day, so plan on the shuttle. Walk off the candy in Memorial Park.
Good Shepherd Pumpkin Patch
Kingwood · church pumpkin patch · free admission
For the second half of October, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Kingwood fills its lawn with pumpkins. Admission is free and pumpkins are sold separately. Look for the opening festival with games and live music, plus a free outdoor movie night.
Armand Bayou Nature Center Fall Festival
Pasadena, near Clear Lake · weekend harvest festival · wagon rides
This one is less about jack-o'-lanterns and more about the harvest. Armand Bayou's Fall Festival, typically held on a weekend in early November, features wagon rides, butter making, candle making, blacksmithing, rope making, live music and a pie-eating contest. It's our favourite way to show kids where fall traditions came from. Make a day of it with our Clear Lake guide.
Save this: your pumpkin patch checklist
- Check the farm's official site the morning you go. Rain closes corn mazes and hayrides fast, and many farms are weekends-only.
- Buy tickets online the night before. Dewberry uses timed entry and P-6 sells tickets online only; Old Time Christmas Tree Farm is the opposite and takes payment only at the gate.
- Budget for pumpkins on top of admission. At most farms they're priced by size.
- Wear closed-toe shoes you don't mind getting dusty. When it's dry, it's dusty; after rain, the corn maze is mud.
- Pack sunscreen and water: October here can still feel like summer.
- Bring a wagon for small kids and big pumpkins if the farm allows it.
- Leave the dog at home unless you're heading to Old Time Christmas Tree Farm.
- Go early or go on a weekday if you can. Opening hour on a Saturday is the calmest the big farms get.
Save this: a west-side pumpkin Saturday
- Get to Dewberry Farm in Brookshire at your entry time and do the corn maze while it's cool.
- Catch the candy cannon at 1pm, then head south to Blessington Farms in Simonton to feed Karl the camel and pick your pumpkins.
- If you have big kids, flip the order and finish at Dewberry for BOOriffic Nights after dark.
