Best Food Trucks in Houston: Truck Parks and Trucks That Stay Put

Date Published

Food trucks Houston illustration: a food truck under string lights with a Ferris wheel and skyline

Here's a rule most people never think about: the Houston Health Department's mobile food unit guidance lists a restroom letter from a business within 500 meters of where a truck operates. In other words, a taco truck needs a bathroom it doesn't own. It helps explain why so many of the city's best trucks park beside a bar or a shopping center, make friends with the neighbors, and stay for years.

This guide is built around those trucks that stay put. Permanent food truck parks, trucks with a fixed home, and a few long-running crews that post a schedule you can actually plan around. If you've ever chased a truck across town only to find an empty lot, start here.

The quick list

  • For a night out with a Ferris wheel: Truck Yard, on the east side of downtown.
  • For tacos, chicken and shawarma in one lot: Galleria Food Truck Park on Richmond Avenue.
  • For Venezuelan arepas and a playground: El Patio at Mason in Katy.
  • For halal fried chicken at a truck park: Clutch City Cluckers, at the Galleria park.
  • For the truck that started a halal empire: Abu Omar Halal.
  • For Korean-Mexican mashups: Oh My Gogi!
  • For one perfect thing, done one way: Yoyo's Hotdog on Washington Avenue.
  • For a whole roast chicken to take home: Pollos Asados La Silla's bus locations.

How we chose

We picked food truck parks and trucks with a fixed spot or a published location, so you can show up without detective work. Every pick had to show a current address on its own official website as of October 2026 (for trucks inside a park, the park's own site counts). We left out beloved trucks we couldn't confirm on an official site or page, rather than send you to a spot that may have moved.

Food trucks change hours more often than restaurants, and weather can shut them down. Treat every schedule below as "typically" and check the truck's site or social page before you go.

The food truck parks

Truck Yard Houston

East side of downtown, 2118 Lamar St · beer garden, rotating trucks, live music · open daily

Truck Yard is the food truck park as backyard party: rotating trucks, a bar, live music every day, and, yes, a Ferris wheel. It typically opens at 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and at noon Thursday through Sunday, and runs past midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Dogs and babies are welcome by the park's own account, but it's 21 and up after 9 p.m.

Insider tip: the Ferris wheel only spins on Friday and Saturday evenings, from 6 p.m. to midnight, and Truck Yard says it closes when it's below 50 degrees. Save the ride for a warm night. The current truck lineup is on the Truck Yard Houston site.

Best for: groups that can't agree on dinner, and a pre- or post-game stop. Pair it with our Daikin Park guide.

Galleria Food Truck Park

Near the Galleria, 5600 Richmond Ave · burgers, tacos, chicken, Mediterranean

This is the park to know when you're hungry on the west side. Trucks here serve gourmet burgers, street tacos and birria, fried chicken and Mediterranean plates, and one of them, Taco Fuego, calls this its late-night location. Three of its regulars made our list on their own (below), which tells you something about the lineup.

Best for: dinner after shopping, or a group that wants tacos, chicken and shawarma at the same table. More ideas nearby are in our Galleria and Uptown restaurant guide.

El Patio at Mason

Katy, 1431 S. Mason Rd · food trucks, full bar, playground · open daily

El Patio at Mason is the suburban answer to the city's truck parks, and it has a personality all its own. The lineup leans Venezuelan, with arepas and plantains, alongside halal burgers and kebabs, barbecue, Indian and Colombian cooking, and sweets like crepes, waffles and donuts. The park describes itself as pet-friendly and has a playground, so it works for families. It typically opens at 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and at noon on Sundays, and stays open until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Trucks with a fixed home

Clutch City Cluckers

Galleria Food Truck Park, 5600 Richmond Ave · halal fried chicken

Chicken breaded fresh and cooked to order in five heat levels, from Mild up to "Cluck It," and 100% halal-certified by the brand's own account. Order the tenders or the Cluck It Waffle. The name is a Houston history lesson: it's a nod to the Rockets' back-to-back NBA championships in 1994 and 1995.

Taco Fuego

Galleria Food Truck Park, 5600 Richmond Ave · halal tacos and birria · late night

Taco Fuego calls its Richmond Avenue spot its late-night location. Go for the fajita asada tacos or the birria, and don't skip the house-made salsas. If you like it, the original sit-down location in Spring Branch adds a full bar and a bigger menu.

Gourmandize

Galleria Food Truck Park, 5600 Richmond Ave · Mediterranean

The shawarma and gyro truck at the Galleria park, with falafel and platters for anyone who isn't in a fried-chicken mood. It's the balanced order at a park built for indulgence.

Abu Omar Halal

Several fixed truck locations, including Westheimer west of the Galleria, Barker Cypress, Louetta Road in Spring and Highway 6 in Sugar Land

Abu Omar Halal started in Houston in 2011 as what it calls the city's first halal food truck, and it has since grown to food trucks and restaurants in five states. It's the rare chain where the trucks still matter: its location finder labels which stops are trucks, and several in the Houston area are. Order the Chicken Shawarma Arabi, wrapped with garlic sauce and panini-pressed, or the Italian Shawarma on a sub roll.

Find it: the Abu Omar location finder shows each truck's address and hours. Many stay open late.

Oh My Gogi!

Truck stops in Midtown (2306 Brazos St) and EaDo (801 St. Emanuel St)

Oh My Gogi! has been, in its own words, trucking around Houston since 2011, and it bills itself as Houston's first Korean-Mexican barbecue. Order the kimchi quesadilla or, if you're feeling bold, the ramen burger. Both trucks run on a rotating schedule, so check @ohmygogi_htx before you head out. There's also a sit-down Galleria-area restaurant if you'd rather not eat standing up.

Yoyo's Hotdog

Washington Avenue, 5602 Washington Ave · Friday and Saturday nights only

Yoyo's has served one menu item since 2010: a bacon-wrapped hot dog with grilled onions and sauce. That's the whole menu, and that's the point. It's typically open from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, which makes it our favorite last stop on a Washington Avenue night out.

Best for: the end of the night. Our Houston nightlife guide covers where to go first.

Yummy's Hot Chicken

Montrose, 323 Westheimer Rd · halal Nashville-style chicken

A family-run truck on lower Westheimer that mixes Middle Eastern spices with Nashville heat, using halal chicken. Heat levels run from mild to "No Mercy." Get the chicken sandwich or the loaded fries, and pick your heat honestly. It's an easy add to a night out in Montrose.

Pollos Asados La Silla

Bus locations at 1416 Broadway St and 4703 Telephone Rd · roast chicken

Here's a story worth telling at the table. Pollos Asados La Silla started in February 1998, grilling chicken outdoors on Harrisburg, and it's named for Cerro de la Silla, the saddle-shaped mountain that looms over Monterrey. Today it runs restaurants plus two bus locations, on Broadway in the East End and on Telephone Road. Order the roast chicken to go and dinner is handled. Hours are typically 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.

How to find food trucks in Houston

  • Go where trucks are permanent. Truck Yard, Galleria Food Truck Park and El Patio at Mason all keep trucks on site, so you're rarely gambling.
  • Follow the truck, not the address. Rotating trucks post their spots on Instagram. Check the morning of, because rain and cold can change plans.
  • Check brewery calendars. Many taprooms rely on trucks instead of kitchens. Ingenious Brewing in Humble says there's almost always a food truck on site, and Back Pew in Porter posts its truck lineup on its events page.
  • Look for the truck parked by the bar. That restroom letter means a truck needs a friendly neighbor, and a bar or ice house with a truck out front is a classic Houston pairing.
  • Use the park's own schedule. Truck Yard posts a food truck schedule on its site, which is the easiest way to know who's cooking tonight.

Save this: the Friday night truck crawl

  1. Dinner at Galleria Food Truck Park. Split a tray of Taco Fuego tacos, Clutch City Cluckers tenders and a Gourmandize shawarma plate.
  2. Ferris wheel at Truck Yard. It runs from 6 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, weather and temperature permitting. Grab a drink while you're there.
  3. Last call at Yoyo's on Washington Avenue. One bacon-wrapped hot dog, served until 3 a.m. Use a rideshare between stops if you're drinking.

Before you go:

  • Check each truck's site or Instagram the day you go.
  • Truck Yard is 21 and up after 9 p.m., so plan family visits early.
  • Bringing the dog? Truck Yard and El Patio at Mason both say pets are welcome.
  • Bring a backup plan. Weather can close a truck or the Ferris wheel without warning.
