- Brunch in Montrose, Houston: 10 Spots From Mansions to Tacos
Montrose does brunch in a lot of costumes. You can eat Sunday pancakes in a 1923 mansion built for an oil baron, graze a regional Mexican buffet to live music, order khachapuri at a chef-driven seafood restaurant, or grab a brisket-and-egg taco from a barbecue joint before most of the neighborhood is awake.
Here's the hook worth repeating: in Montrose, the same chef can feed you twice in one weekend. Aaron Bludorn runs Sunday brunch at Bludorn on Taft Street and leads the kitchen at Perseid, which serves brunch on both Saturday and Sunday at Hotel Saint Augustine. Two very different rooms, one neighborhood.
This guide is our shortlist for brunch in Montrose: ten places, organized by the kind of morning you're after, each confirmed open on its own official website.
Where Montrose starts and stops
People argue about Montrose's edges, so here's the line we drew. For this guide, Montrose is the area bounded by Allen Parkway and Buffalo Bayou to the north, Spur 527 and Bagby Street to the east, US 59 (I-69) to the south, and Shepherd Drive to the west. Every pick below sits inside that box. Good brunch spots just over the line, in the Museum District, Midtown or River Oaks, are in our citywide brunch guide instead. For the wider neighborhood picture, start with our Montrose area guide.
The quick list
- For a celebration: Bludorn (Sunday only) or Tonight & Tomorrow in La Colombe d'Or's mansion.
- For a big group that wants to graze: Hugo's Sunday brunch buffet.
- For something you've never had at brunch: Traveler's Table, where the menu runs from ube pancakes to lamb shakshuka.
- For early risers: Perseid's weekend brunch starts at 7am, and The Pit Room's breakfast tacos start at 7am every day.
- For a no-fuss Mexican breakfast: Cielito Cafe.
- For a cheap, classic plate: Baby Barnaby's or Empire Cafe.
- For a bakery-style brunch any day of the week: Common Bond.
How we chose
We looked for places that do weekend brunch on purpose, plus a few breakfast-all-day spots that locals treat as brunch. Each pick had to be inside our Montrose boundaries and show current hours or a current brunch menu on its official website as of October 2026. We favoured range: a buffet, a mansion, a chef's tasting-style brunch, a taco counter and a bakery.
A note on drinks: none of these restaurants advertises bottomless mimosas on its official site, so we don't promise any. Where a menu lists mimosas or a carafe, we say so. Brunch hours shift with seasons and holidays, so treat every time below as "typically" and check the restaurant's site before you go.
The celebration brunches
Bludorn
Montrose, 807 Taft St · modern American, seafood-forward · Sunday brunch · reservations recommended
Bludorn brings its dinner polish to a single brunch service a week: typically Sunday, 11am to 2:30pm. The brunch menu leans into the sea, with oysters served several ways, a seafood tower and a crab cake Benedict. The sleeper hit is on the "to share" list: a Georgian-style khachapuri with mozzarella and a farm egg, ordered for the table.
Insider tip: valet faces Taft Street, and there's self-parking in the back lot on Rhode Place, according to the restaurant.
Best for: parents in town, birthdays and anyone who wants Sunday to feel like an occasion.
Tonight & Tomorrow at La Colombe d'Or
Montrose, 3410 Montrose Blvd · French brasserie · Saturday and Sunday brunch
This is the "I didn't know that" brunch. The hotel says its home, the Fondren Mansion, was built in 1923 as a private residence for the founder of Humble Oil, and it's one of the last mansions left on Montrose. Tonight & Tomorrow, its French brasserie, sits in the mansion's dining room and spills out into the gardens. Brunch is typically Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 2pm.
Insider tip: the mansion's upstairs suites are named after painters, Monet, Cézanne, Degas, Van Gogh and Renoir among them, a fitting touch for a hotel that also runs its own art exhibitions.
Best for: anniversaries, out-of-town guests and anyone who wants their brunch photos to look like a film set.
Perseid at Hotel Saint Augustine
Montrose, 4110 Loretto Dr · French bistro with a Gulf Coast accent · Saturday and Sunday brunch
Perseid calls itself a French-inspired bistro with a Texas spirit, and its name is a quiet piece of Houston trivia: it refers to the Perseid meteor shower and, in the hotel's words, pays homage to Houston's space legacy. Weekend brunch typically runs 7am to 3pm, the longest dedicated brunch service on this list. Order the citrus-butter pancakes or the shrimp and grits, and know that the menu lists a Perseid Bloody Mary and mimosas by the glass or carafe. According to the hotel, Perseid earned a spot in the Texas MICHELIN Guide in its debut year.
Best for: a calm, grown-up brunch, or a late one when everywhere else has stopped seating.
The big, social brunches
Hugo's
Montrose, 1600 Westheimer Rd · regional Mexican · Sunday brunch buffet
Hugo's Sunday brunch buffet is a Houston ritual: a long spread of regional Mexican dishes with live music. The restaurant typically serves it from 10am to 3pm, with musicians playing from about 11am to 2pm. Regular drip coffee is included in the buffet price, while espresso drinks cost extra. Pricing changes, so check the official site for the current adult and child rates.
Insider tip: arrive close to 11am if the live music is the point, and book ahead. Our Hugo's guide covers the restaurant beyond brunch.
Best for: groups who want to graze, and anyone who thinks brunch should include mole.
Traveler's Table
Montrose, 520 Westheimer Rd · global · Friday to Sunday brunch
Traveler's Table builds its menu around places the owners have been, or want to go, and its brunch is the most passport-stamped meal we know of in the neighborhood. Brunch typically runs Friday through Sunday, 10am to 2:30pm. Pick a lane: Ube Pancakes or Dragon Fruit French Toast if you're sweet, Lamb Shakshuka or Thai "Crying Tiger" Steak & Eggs if you're not, and Lobster Roll Eggs Benedict if you can't decide.
Insider tip: the Friday brunch is the easiest way to get a table without a weekend crowd.
Best for: a group with wildly different cravings.
Casual and classic
Cielito Cafe
Montrose, 1915 Dunlavy St · Mexican breakfast and lunch · open Tuesday to Sunday
Cielito Cafe is the small, homestyle Mexican breakfast spot we'd send you to on a lazy Saturday. It's typically open Tuesday through Sunday, 8am to 2:30pm, and closed Mondays. Order chilaquiles or huevos divorciados, add an agua fresca, and if it's the weekend, look for menudo, which the cafe lists as weekends-only.
Best for: a slow Mexican breakfast without the brunch-scene noise. More ideas in our Mexican restaurant guide.
Empire Cafe
Montrose, 1732 Westheimer Rd · café · breakfast daily, later on weekends
Empire Cafe describes its spot as being on Houston's legendary "curve," and its tables are made for people-watching on Westheimer. Breakfast is typically served until 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays (11am on weekdays). The order: Empire Chicken & Waffles, made with corn, bacon, spinach and smoked gouda in the waffle, or an omelet and a latte.
Best for: a casual weekend brunch where nobody needs a reservation.
Baby Barnaby's
Montrose, 602 Fairview St · breakfast diner · weekend hours 8am to 2pm
Baby Barnaby's is the breakfast-only little sibling of Barnaby's Cafe, and it sits next door to the original on Fairview. On weekends it's typically open 8am to 2pm; on weekdays it closes at noon. Expect generous classic plates and a small room, so plan on a short wait at peak brunch time.
Insider tip: if Baby Barnaby's is full, the original Barnaby's next door opens at 11am for lunch, according to the family's site.
Best for: a classic, filling plate at a fair price.
Common Bond Bistro & Bakery
Montrose, 1706 Westheimer Rd · bakery bistro · all-day breakfast, daily
Common Bond's Montrose bistro serves an all-day breakfast menu every day of the week, which makes it the brunch that doesn't care what day it is. The bistro typically opens at 7am. Its eggs are cooked to 63°, which is why the yolks come out soft and jammy on the Eggs Benedict and the Avocado Smash. Grab pastries from the case for later. More in our bakeries guide.
Best for: a weekday brunch, a pastry run, or a group that includes picky eaters.
The Pit Room
Montrose, 1201 Richmond Ave · Texas barbecue · breakfast tacos daily
Barbecue for breakfast is the most Houston move on this list. The Pit Room serves grab-and-go breakfast tacos seven days a week, typically 7am to 10:30am, with fillings like Brisket & Egg, Pulled Pork Hash & Egg and Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage & Egg. Every taco comes with refried beans, and the condiment bar has salsa roja, salsa verde, pico, pickled jalapeños and house hot sauce.
Insider tip: The Patio next door is attached to the restaurant, so you can carry your tacos outside. Love this kind of morning? See our taco guide.
Best for: early risers, cheap eats and anyone feeding a crowd before a game.
