This guide covers all of them, with ticket prices, practical tips, and a save-this checklist.

Houston Ballet: The Nutcracker

Brown Theater, Wortham Theater Center, 501 Texas Ave, Downtown Houston · Nov 27 – Dec 28, 2026

The Houston Ballet Nutcracker is the signature production of the season. Stanton Welch's choreography — which the company is marking its 10th anniversary of in 2026 — features more than 300 Houston Ballet Academy students performing alongside the professional company. That detail matters: the snowflake in Act I may well be a neighbor's child.

The Brown Theater seats approximately 2,400 across orchestra, mezzanine, and balcony tiers. Running time is approximately 1 hour 55 minutes, including one intermission of about 25 minutes.

Tickets: From approximately $73 through the Houston Ballet box office at houstonballet.org or 713-227-2787. Resale prices run considerably higher, especially for holiday week. Book early — the December 26–28 shows typically sell out well before December.

Kids tip: Matinee performances (2 pm Saturdays, 1 pm Sundays) are the easiest for young children. Bring a snack for intermission. The bathroom lines are real — go before the curtain drops, not at intermission. Children under 2 are not admitted.

Best seats: The first few rows of the mezzanine give a full view of the stage and the overhead effects without craning upward from the orchestra floor. If you're taking a first-time child, center orchestra rows 8–15 put them close enough to see the dancers' faces.

The sensory-friendly performance: $15 tickets

On Friday, December 18, 2026 at 1 pm, Houston Ballet stages a sensory-friendly Nutcracker for neurodivergent individuals and those with physical or cognitive disabilities. Tickets are $15 — compared to $73 and up for standard performances. The house lights stay on dimly (rather than going dark), audience members can move freely and make noise, and the foyer opens at 11:30 am for early-arrival families. The production itself is the full professional company. This is the most affordable way to see the professional production and, for many families, the most comfortable.

The Nutcracker Market

Reliant Center, 1 Reliant Parkway · Nov 12–15, 2026

The Nutcracker Market is a four-day holiday shopping event that has raised more than $100 million for Houston Ballet since 1981 — meaning every wreath and gingerbread candle you buy there goes directly to keeping the ballet running. The 46th annual edition packs more than 280 vendors into Reliant Center, selling gifts, home goods, jewelry, gourmet food, and holiday décor. Plan two to three hours to do it properly.

Hours and tickets:

  • Thursday, Nov. 12: 10 am – 8 pm (Early Bird entry at 8:30 am)
  • Friday, Nov. 13: 10 am – 7 pm (Early Bird entry at 8:30 am)
  • Saturday, Nov. 14: 10 am – 6 pm
  • Sunday, Nov. 15: 10 am – 5 pm
  • Single-day general admission: $25 + fees
  • Early Bird 4-day pass (includes 8:30 am entry Thu/Fri and unlimited re-entry): $60 + fees
  • Sunday-only: $20 + fees
  • Children 2 and under: free

Tickets at nutcrackermarket.com. No cash at the gate.

Bag policy: No backpacks or bags larger than 11 by 17 inches. No strollers, rolling carts, or wagons inside the market floor (a check-in area is near the entrance).

Getting there: Parking at Reliant Park runs $20–$25 per car. The easier option is METRORail — the Red Line's NRG Park/Reliant stop puts you at the front door. See the METRO Houston guide for fares and schedules.

Special events: The Wells Fargo Preview Party on Wednesday, November 11 (6:30–10 pm, $400/ticket for 2026) lets you shop before the general public opens, with food and entertainment included. Fashion show luncheons run Thursday and Friday mornings at 10:15 am (Snow Queen on Thursday, Sugar Plum on Friday).
