Bars in Galleria and Uptown illustration: skyline, Williams Tower, rooftop screen and cocktail glasses

Uptown has more hotels than any other district in Houston, according to the Uptown Houston District, and it shows in the bar scene. Here the best drink in the neighborhood might be poured in a five-star hotel lobby, on the first floor of Saks Fifth Avenue, or on a fifth-floor rooftop while a movie plays. It's a dressier, later, more grown-up side of Houston drinking, and once you know where to sit, it's a lot of fun.

This is the shortlist we'd hand a friend who asks for the best bars in Galleria and Uptown: wine bars, cocktail lounges, patios, a sports club and a rooftop, all checked on their own official websites.

How we define Galleria and Uptown

For this guide, Galleria and Uptown means the Uptown Houston District's core around Post Oak Boulevard: roughly Loop 610 on the east, Woodway Drive on the north, Chimney Rock Road on the west and Richmond Avenue on the south. That takes in The Galleria, BLVD Place, Uptown Park and the hotels along the West Loop. Favorites just outside those lines, in Highland Village, River Oaks or Memorial Park, belong to our citywide best bars in Houston guide instead.

The quick list

  • For the dressiest nightcap: H Bar at The Post Oak Hotel.
  • For a wine flight with a sommelier: Stella's Wine Bar, same hotel.
  • For cheap wine before 5 p.m.: Postino Uptown Park.
  • For a margarita you can't get anywhere else in Houston: Bar Remi at Hotel Granduca.
  • For a cocktail with a story: the bar at Musaafer in The Galleria.
  • For a drink mid-shopping: Bar 12 at 51fifteen, inside Saks.
  • For a backyard and live music: The Rustic.
  • For a big patio and late happy hour: JOEY Uptown.
  • For the game in leather armchairs: Uptown Sporting Club.
  • For a drink and a movie under the sky: Rooftop Cinema Club Uptown.

How we chose

We looked for places where the drinking is the point, or at least half of it: a real bar program, a patio worth the wait, a screen worth watching, or a room you'd dress up for. Each pick had to sit inside the boundaries above and show current hours, menus or events on its own official website as of October 2026. Several familiar names didn't make it because we couldn't confirm them on an official site.

Hours, happy hours and dress codes change, so treat every detail below as "typically" and check the venue's site before you go. Most Uptown bars expect at least business casual after dark.

Cocktail bars and lounges

H Bar at The Post Oak Hotel

Uptown, 1600 West Loop South · main lobby · open nightly from 4 p.m.

H Bar is Uptown's dark, plush answer to "where do we go after dinner?" The hotel describes crimson velvet, vintage lighting and black-and-white photography, and it pours fine spirits and what it calls exotic cocktails. It typically opens at 4 p.m. and runs until midnight on Sunday and Monday and until 1 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday, which makes it one of the later polished rooms in the area.

I didn't know that: H Bar's menu has featured The Black Gold, a $1,600 burger with Japanese A5 Wagyu, foie gras, black truffles, a black-and-24K-gold brioche bun, golden fries and a bottle of 2006 Dom Pérignon. You don't have to order it. It's still fun to know it exists.

Dress code: upscale business casual at all times. No gym wear, jerseys, ball caps, hoodies, slides or flip-flops. Cowboy hats and fedoras are fine. Admittance is at management's discretion.

The bar at Musaafer

The Galleria, 5115 Westheimer Rd · Indian fine dining with a serious bar · open daily

Musaafer's bar menu is a history lesson you can drink. The Kohinoor, named for the famous diamond, is an Old-Fashioned built on Macallan, cardamom, honey and Oloroso sherry. A Beekeeper section uses honey sourced within 6.5 miles of the restaurant, and the spirits list runs past 200 labels, with half pours available if you want to taste something rare without committing.

I didn't know that: the Pumpkin Spice Kappi, a coffee cocktail with South Indian filter coffee and pumpkin-spiced reposado, is served with edible newsprint commemorating India's independence. Check the current menu, since cocktails rotate. More coffee cocktails live in our espresso martini guide.

Bar 12 at 51fifteen

The Galleria, first floor of Saks Fifth Avenue · café bar · happy hour 3 to 7 p.m.

Yes, there's a cocktail bar inside Saks. Bar 12 is the satellite café bar of 51fifteen, the restaurant upstairs on Saks' second floor, and it runs from morning coffee and pastries to evening cocktails, wine and champagne with light bites. The signature list includes a Mandarin Fire Margarita and a Lavender Peach Bellini.

Insider tip: 51fifteen's dress code is strict in the dining room at dinner, but casual wear is welcome in the bar and lounge area. Happy hour typically runs 3 to 7 p.m., and the restaurant lists live music on its site.

Bar Remi at Hotel Granduca

Uptown Park, 1080 Uptown Park Blvd · Italian hotel bar · happy hour weekdays 4 to 6 p.m.

Granduca is a quiet Italian-style hotel tucked into Uptown Park, and its restaurant Remi jokes that the courtyard makes "just one drink" feel wildly optimistic. Remi typically serves all day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Bar Remi typically pours from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and happy hour runs on weekdays from 4 to 6 p.m.

What to order: the Kemo Sabe Margarita. Through a partnership with the Aspen Western outfitter Kemo Sabe, the hotel says Original Grit tequila is found in Houston only at Granduca, poured at Remi and Bar Remi. The margarita comes with a cucumber bergamot foam.

Wine bars

Stella's Wine Bar at The Post Oak Hotel

Uptown, 1600 West Loop South · grand ballroom lobby · casual dress

Stella's pours close to 60 wines by the glass from more than 30 wine regions, with flights and a team of sommeliers who are happy to talk you through them. It typically opens at 4 p.m., closing at 10 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and at midnight Thursday to Saturday. Unlike H Bar, the dress code here is casual.

I didn't know that: Stella's can pour from The Cellar, the hotel's 30,000-bottle collection of more than 3,500 labels, with vintages the hotel says date back to the 1800s.

Don't miss: Stella's Wine Games, typically on the second Saturday of the month at 4 p.m., where a wine expert teaches you to blind taste like a professional. Reserve ahead.

Postino Uptown Park

Uptown Park, 1151 Uptown Park Blvd · wine café · card and mobile pay only

Postino is the easiest yes in Uptown: a bright wine café with a patio, boards of bruschetta and two of the best-value deals in the neighborhood. It typically opens at 11 a.m. and stays open late.

The deals: $6 glasses of wine and $6 pitchers of beer daily until 5 p.m., and a board of bruschetta plus a bottle of wine for $25 after 8 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Bring a card, not cash. For more deals across town, see our best happy hour in Houston guide.

Patios and live music

The Rustic

Uptown Park, 1121 Uptown Park Blvd · kitchen, backyard, bar and live music

The Rustic sums itself up in four words: kitchen, backyard, bar, live music. Expect wood-grilled American food, local craft beer and cocktails, and a big outdoor setup that suits a group that can't agree on anything. Live entertainment typically plays during weekend brunch, and the restaurant is usually open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Best for: a long Saturday afternoon. Fun fact for travelers: The Rustic also has an outpost at Hobby Airport.

JOEY Uptown

The Galleria area, 5045 Westheimer Rd · restaurant and bar · temperature-controlled patio

JOEY is the polished, high-energy option steps from The Galleria. The draw is the temperature-controlled patio with its own outdoor bar, which makes it one of the more comfortable places to sit outside in July. It runs both a daytime and a late-night happy hour; the times are on its site.

Best for: after-work drinks that turn into dinner.

Sports

Uptown Sporting Club

Uptown Park, 1131 Uptown Park Blvd · cocktail lounge and sports bar · open seven days

Uptown Sporting Club isn't a sticky-floor sports bar, and it doesn't want to be. Picture tufted leather, polished wood and brass, and barrel-inspired ceilings across about 4,000 square feet. By day it's a cocktail lounge and sports bar for business lunches and games; by night it turns into a social club, with a nightclub mood on weekends. It stocks 50-plus spirits and signature cocktails, rents more than 130 bottle lockers, and is open daily for happy hour, dinner and late night.

Good to know: it offers memberships, but it also takes reservations. For a louder, cheaper game day, see our best sports bars in Houston.

Rooftop

Rooftop Cinema Club Uptown

BLVD Place, 1700 Post Oak Blvd, 5th level · two screens, year-round

This is the most Uptown night out on the list: a fifth-floor terrace with two outdoor screens and the Uptown skyline around them. Doors typically open up to an hour before the film. Use that hour: order from the bar (cocktails, Texas beer and wine, popcorn), claim an Adirondack chair or a Loveseat for two, and play a lawn game while the sun goes down. Wireless headphones are tuned to your film, so the other screen never bleeds through.

I didn't know that: Uptown Houston's own history timeline includes a 1956 drive-in screen tower on what was then Post Oak Road. Watching a movie outdoors on Post Oak is an old habit.

Good to know: evening screenings are typically 16+ (21+ for the bar, with photo ID), while family matinées welcome all ages, so check the listing before you bring teens. Compare it with the rest in our best rooftop bars in Houston.

Save this: the Uptown bar bingo card

Screenshot this and see how many you can mark off:

  2. Try the Kemo Sabe Margarita at Bar Remi.
  3. Blind taste at Stella's Wine Games.

  8. Watch a game from a leather chair at Uptown Sporting Club.
  9. Take a Loveseat for two at Rooftop Cinema Club.
  10. Dress the part for a nightcap at H Bar.

An Uptown Park to Post Oak evening: start with a $6 glass at Postino before 5 p.m., then walk across Uptown Park to Bar Remi for weekday happy hour. Head down Post Oak to BLVD Place for a sunset film at Rooftop Cinema Club, and finish with a nightcap at H Bar, open until 1 a.m. most nights. Take a rideshare between the last two stops.

Getting there and getting home

Uptown is easy to reach and hard to park in at rush hour. METRORapid's Silver Line runs in dedicated bus lanes on Post Oak Boulevard, connecting to the Northwest and Westpark transit centers; our METRO guide covers fares and routes. Post Oak itself is lined with more than 1,000 live oaks, according to the Uptown Houston District, so the walk between stops is a pleasant one. After dark, plan a rideshare or a designated driver.
