Best Bars in Clear Lake, TX: Waterfront Patios, Breweries, Game Days

Date Published

Bars in Clear Lake illustration: sailboats, string lights and drinks on a marina pier at night

Clear Lake runs on NASA time by day and island time by night. Here's the part most Houstonians don't know: more than half of our favorite bars around the lake sit in Clear Lake Shores, a waterfront city of about 1,200 people that bills itself as the Yachting Capital of Texas. You can park once, walk between a brewery, a hula bar, a sports yard and a cocktail list with marina views, and never touch the freeway.

The rest of the scene is classic Bay Area: a Webster brewery that names its beers like a dare, an icehouse built for game days, a three-story driving range, and a pizza pub with more than 50 beers on tap a few minutes from Space Center Houston. This is the shortlist we'd hand a friend who asks where to drink in Clear Lake.

The quick list

  • For a waterfront brewery with a pier: Galveston Bay Brewing in Clear Lake Shores.
  • For sunset cocktails and a real wine list: Schafer's Coastal Bar & Grille.
  • For mai tais and fish tacos on a deck: Lil' Outriggers Hula Bar & Grill.
  • For watching every game at once: Okie's Yardhouse.
  • For seasonal craft cocktails with dinner: Opus Ocean Grille at Watergate Yachting Center.
  • For beer nerds and retro video games: Saloon Door Brewing in Webster.
  • For a dog-friendly patio and turtle races: Little Woodrow's Webster.
  • For a group that wants something to do: Topgolf Webster.
  • For 50-plus taps and a wood-fired pizza: Boondoggles Pub.

How we chose

First, the map. For this guide, Clear Lake means the communities around the lake itself: Houston's Clear Lake neighborhood along Bay Area Boulevard and NASA Parkway, plus Webster, Nassau Bay, El Lago, Taylor Lake Village, Seabrook and Clear Lake Shores. We left out Kemah and League City, even the bars a few blocks over the line, because they have their own guides.

Every pick had to be operating on its own official website in October 2026, with a current address and posted hours or menus. We looked for a mix: neighborhood bars, patios, sports bars, a brewery or two, and places where wine and cocktails get real attention. Hours and specials change often, so read every schedule below as "typically" and check the bar's site before you go.

We couldn't confirm a standalone Seabrook bar on an official site, so none made the list.

Clear Lake Shores: the waterfront strip

Five of our picks sit on or just off Marina Bay Drive in Clear Lake Shores, next door to Kemah. It's the closest thing the Bay Area has to a bar district, and it's best around sunset.

Galveston Bay Brewing

Clear Lake Shores, 902 Marina Bay Dr · independent craft brewery · open daily

Galveston Bay Brewing pours more than 30 local craft brews and seltzers on tap, with a full kitchen behind them and an outdoor patio and pier on the water. The taproom is family-friendly and the patio is pet-friendly, which makes this the easiest pick on the list for a mixed group. The brewery says its taproom staff are Cicerone-trained, so ask for a recommendation or build a flight.

Good to know: weekend brunch typically runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and weeknight events have included trivia. Hours are posted on the brewery's site.

Best for: a long, easy afternoon with kids or a dog in tow.

Schafer's Coastal Bar & Grille

Clear Lake Shores, 1002 Aspen Rd · waterfront restaurant and bar · cocktails and wine

Here's the insider story. For 18 years, Outriggers Seafood Grill & Bar sat under the Kemah-Seabrook bridge, until the Highway 146 bridge expansion closed it. Schafer's calls itself Outriggers' "proud cousin" and carries the tradition on, on the water, with signature cocktails and a wine list that runs from easy pours to Napa bottles.

What to order: something from the cocktail list during happy hour, typically weekday afternoons from 3 to 6 p.m., then stay for the sunset. Wednesdays have typically brought a house wine special. Check the specials page for the current lineup.

Best for: date night, or the moment you want a real glass of wine instead of a bucket of beer.

Lil' Outriggers Hula Bar & Grill

Clear Lake Shores, 822 Clear Lake Rd · tropical deck bar · typically Tuesday to Sunday

Right across the street from Schafer's, Lil' Outriggers is the other half of the Outriggers story. It serves the signature fish tacos carried over from the original restaurant, alongside mai tais, Bloody Marys and beer buckets. Live music plays on the patio on a regular schedule, posted on its events calendar.

Good to know: it's 21 and up after 8 p.m., and it typically closes Mondays.

Best for: the most fun you can have in flip-flops. Two bars facing each other across one street, keeping a lost waterfront legend alive, is about as Clear Lake as it gets.

Okie's Yardhouse

Clear Lake Shores, 1010 Marina Bay Dr · sports bar and beer garden · open daily, late

Okie's is three bars in one: a main bar, a party pavilion with 18 big screens for game day, and an outdoor courtyard with fire pits and live entertainment. It's typically open until 1 or 2 a.m. most nights, with the kitchen open until 10 p.m. on weeknights and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Families: Okie's is family-friendly until 9 p.m. and 21 and up after 10 p.m.

Best for: watching the Texans, Astros or Rockets with a crowd, then staying for the fire pits. Game schedules live on our sports hub.

Opus Ocean Grille

Clear Lake Shores, 1510 Marina Bay Dr, Building 124 · waterfront seafood restaurant · cocktail bar

Opus sits inside the Watergate Yachting Center, and it's the most polished drink on the strip. The house cocktails change with the seasons. A fall list has included a pear-and-prosecco riff on a French 75, a maple-espresso rum drink called Last Call, and a pecan pie martini.

Good to know: it's open daily, with weekend brunch, and takes reservations through its website.

Best for: a dressed-up drink with marina views, or brunch cocktails after a morning on the water.

Webster: breweries, patios and game days

Saloon Door Brewing

Webster, 105 A Magellan Cir · craft brewery and tasting room · closed Mondays

Saloon Door brews on a 10-barrel system and names its beers with a grin: Dat Dill Doe Pickle Gose, Kemah Suprema light lager, Hop Wayne triple IPA and the Tasty AF peanut butter and chocolate milk stouts. During open hours the brewery typically gives a tour about once an hour. Our favorite line on its FAQ: tours given by one of the owners "tend to be more colorful and less accurate."

What's on: the weekly schedule has included Taco Tuesday with board games, Wednesday trivia, a retro video game night on Thursdays, and bring-your-own-food Sundays. Food trucks and a barbecue cart cover most other nights. Saloon Door also offers a military discount every day, a nice touch in a NASA town.

Hours: typically Tuesday to Thursday from 4 p.m., Friday from 3 p.m., and weekends from noon. Check the tasting room page before you go.

Best for: beer nerds, gamers, and anyone who likes their brewery a little weird. More taprooms are in our Houston breweries guide.

Little Woodrow's Webster

Webster, 20251 Gulf Fwy · patio bar · open until 2 a.m.

Little Woodrow's calls this location its official game day HQ, and it's built for it: a patio bar, outdoor furniture, yard games and somewhere between 30 and 50 TVs, so you can watch from a lawn chair or a barstool. A slider food truck handles the food, and weekday happy hour typically runs until 7 p.m.

The fun part: turtle racing. It's a Little Woodrow's tradition, along with bingo nights and a fall Oktoberfest.

Good to know: it's strictly 21 and up after 7 p.m. Before 7, anyone under 21 needs a parent or guardian.

Best for: a big, loose crowd on a Saturday. See more pup-friendly spots in our dog-friendly patios guide.

Topgolf Webster

Webster, 21401 Gulf Fwy · driving range, sports bar and rooftop terrace · open daily

Topgolf Webster is three stories of climate-controlled hitting bays, more than 100 of them, with a sports bar and restaurant, more than 200 HDTVs and a rooftop terrace. Clubs are free.

Good to know: guests under 16 need a 21-plus guest with them at all times, and anyone under 18 needs supervision after 9 p.m. It's typically open until 1 a.m. on Saturdays.

Best for: birthdays, work outings, and groups where not everyone wants to just sit and drink.

NASA Parkway

Boondoggles Pub

NASA Parkway area · craft beer pub and wood-fired pizza · open daily

Boondoggles has more than 50 craft beers on tap and a fully stocked bar, with gourmet pizzas from a wood-burning oven. It's the natural stop after a day at NASA Johnson Space Center.

What's on: the specials typically include buy-one-get-one pizzas on Mondays, whiskey and wings on Tuesdays, and steak night on Wednesdays, when kids eat free. Sunday brunch starts at 10 a.m.

Best for: families, beer lovers and anyone still talking about the Saturn V.

Save this: the Marina Bay Drive crawl

Park once in Clear Lake Shores and walk this one. Five stops, one sunset, no freeway.

  1. Galveston Bay Brewing (late afternoon). Start with a flight on the pier.
  2. Schafer's Coastal Bar & Grille (sunset). Grab a happy hour cocktail on the water.
  3. Lil' Outriggers (dinner). Cross the street for fish tacos and a mai tai.
  4. Okie's Yardhouse (the game). Catch the late game in the pavilion or sit by the fire pits.
  5. Opus Ocean Grille (nightcap). End with a seasonal cocktail at Watergate.

Check each bar's hours before you go, since Lil' Outriggers and Schafer's typically close on Mondays and the age rules change in the evening. And never drive after drinking: use a rideshare or pick a designated driver.

Before you go: a quick checklist

  • Check hours on each bar's own site the day you go. Breweries and patio bars often close one day a week.
  • Bringing kids? Galveston Bay Brewing, Boondoggles and Okie's (until 9 p.m.) are your best bets. Little Woodrow's is 21-plus after 7 p.m.
  • Bringing the dog? Galveston Bay Brewing's pet-friendly patio is the easy pick; Little Woodrow's big patio is built for a lawn-chair afternoon. Check each bar's pet policy first.
  • Watching a game? Okie's, Little Woodrow's and Topgolf have the most screens.
