- Parks and Trails in Clear Lake, TX: 12 Picks, Bison to Splash Pads
The best parks and trails in Clear Lake are Armand Bayou Nature Center for prairie, bayou and bison; Exploration Green for six miles of paved trail around five lakes; and Bay Area Park for a fenced dog park and a canoe launch. For splash pads, head to Texas Avenue Park in Webster or the free Monroe Field Splash Pad in Seabrook, both typically open from April 1. For the bay itself, walk the crushed-granite loop at Pine Gully Park in Seabrook.
Here’s the part most visitors miss: Clear Lake’s six miles of paved lakeside trail used to be a golf course. Exploration Green sits on the former Clear Lake City Golf Course, which the Clear Lake City Water Authority bought to hold stormwater. Its lakes are flood control first and scenery second, and they double as an eBird birding hotspot.
Where is Clear Lake, for this guide?
We use the same boundary as our other Clear Lake guides: Houston’s Clear Lake neighborhood around NASA Johnson Space Center (ZIP codes 77058, 77059 and 77062) plus the small bayside cities of Webster, Nassau Bay, El Lago, Taylor Lake Village, Seabrook and Clear Lake Shores. Kemah and League City have their own guides and are left out.
One note: Armand Bayou Nature Center’s official address is in Pasadena, but it sits on Bay Area Boulevard directly beside Bay Area Park, and most people who live here treat it as Clear Lake’s backyard. We include it for that reason.

How we chose
We picked parks that give you a reason to drive across town: real trails, wildlife, water access, a splash pad or a dog park, not just a neighborhood playground. Every pick is listed as open on its operator’s official site (Harris County Precinct 2, the City of Houston, Seabrook, Webster, Nassau Bay or the park’s own nonprofit) as of November 2026. Hours change with seasons and repairs, so treat every time below as “typically” and check the official page before you go.
Nature and wildlife
Armand Bayou Nature Center
8500 Bay Area Blvd, Pasadena · typically Wednesday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday noon to 5 p.m. · closed Monday and Tuesday
Armand Bayou Nature Center is the reason to visit Clear Lake if you love the outdoors. The nonprofit, founded in 1974, says a 2024 land addition made it the largest urban wilderness preserve in Texas. You get more than 5 miles of walking trails in loops of about half a mile to 1.5 miles, plus the Discovery Loop, which crosses the wetlands and forest on an elevated boardwalk, then passes a prairie platform, an 1800s farm site and a bison viewing platform.
Admission is typically $7 for ages 13 to 59, $5 for kids 4 to 12 and seniors, and free for ages 3 and under; parking is free. Trails are for hiking only (no jogging or biking), and pets aren’t allowed. Want to see the bayou from the water? The pontoon boat Bayou Ranger II runs Saturday morning and sunset cruises that you book ahead. Our full Armand Bayou Nature Center guide has the details.
Best for: families, birders and anyone who wants to see what this coast looked like before the suburbs.
Exploration Green
Main lot at 16314 Diana Lane, Houston · dawn to dusk daily · free
Exploration Green is a 200-acre green space with six miles of 10-foot-wide concrete trails looping five lakes and 40 acres of wetlands, according to the Exploration Green Conservancy. The trails are ADA compliant and flat, which makes them ideal for strollers, bikes, roller skates and long runs. There are two more lots, at 2201 Bay Area Blvd and 1296 El Dorado Blvd.
Know before you go: there’s no fishing, no swimming, no permanent restrooms (portable toilets only) and no lights on the trails. Leashed dogs are welcome.
Best for: runners, cyclists and birders, especially at sunrise.
Sylvan Rodriguez Park
1201 Clear Lake City Blvd, Houston
Sylvan Rodriguez Park is one of the City of Houston parks protected under the city’s Nature Preserve Ordinance, and one of a handful where the parks department is actively restoring native coastal prairie. That restoration is hands-on: volunteers typically meet for prairie workdays on the second Wednesday of each month, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Best for: a quiet walk, and anyone who wants to volunteer outdoors.
Nassau Peninsula
End of Harbour Drive, Nassau Bay
Nassau Peninsula is a 76-acre wetland in Nassau Bay with a public nature trail, information signs and benches, according to the City of Nassau Bay. The city notes that Nassau Bay is part of the Texas Parks and Wildlife birding trail, so bring binoculars.
Best for: a short, peaceful nature walk a few minutes from Space Center Houston.
On the water
Bay Area Park
7500 Bay Area Blvd, Houston · typically 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily
Bay Area Park, run by Harris County Precinct 2, packs the most into one stop: a dog park, playground, canoe access, a boat launch, fishing, picnic pavilions, ball fields, tennis courts and restrooms. The Bay Area Hike and Bike Trail shares the park’s address and is typically open dawn to dusk.
Insider tip: Armand Bayou Nature Center doesn’t allow pets, and its own rules page points dog owners to the dog park in Bay Area Park next door. Walk the preserve in the morning, then let the dog run here.
Best for: dog owners and paddlers. See our kayaking guide for gear and rentals.
Challenger Seven Memorial Park
2301 W NASA Blvd, Webster · typically 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily
Challenger Seven Memorial Park is a Harris County Precinct 2 park named for the seven-member crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger. It has nature trails, a playground, fishing, canoe access and a boat launch, plus rentable picnic pavilions.
Best for: a family picnic and a gentle walk, or a paddle on the creek.
Clear Lake Park
5001 NASA Pkwy, Seabrook · typically 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily
Clear Lake Park is Harris County Precinct 2’s lakefront park on Clear Lake itself, with a boat launch, canoe access, fishing, nature trails, a playground, a ball field, picnic pavilions and restrooms. If you want to get a kayak or a boat onto Clear Lake, this is the obvious place to start.
Best for: boaters, anglers and sunset picnics.
Pine Gully Park
605 Pine Gully Rd, Seabrook · typically sunrise to sunset
Pine Gully Park is Seabrook’s 52-acre bayfront park, on the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail, with restored wetlands, wooded areas, cabanas, a playground and a 6-mile crushed-granite trail loop the city calls pet-friendly and people-friendly. The city says trail users may spot birds, butterflies, turtles, white-tailed deer and, now and then, a bottlenose dolphin in Galveston Bay.
Two things to know. The fishing pier closes for repairs at times, so check the city’s Pine Gully page before you bring a rod. And non-residents pay a cash-only entry fee per vehicle (typically $5 Monday to Thursday, more on weekends and holidays), so bring exact change.
Best for: bay views, birding and a long walk with the dog on a leash.
Splash pads, dog parks and play
Texas Avenue Park (Webster)
17100 Texas Ave, Webster · park typically 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Texas Avenue Park is Webster’s 20-acre main park, and its splash pad has a baseball theme. The City of Webster says the splash pad typically runs 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and opens for the season on April 1. Monroe Field Splash Pad (Seabrook)
2528 Repsdorph Rd, Seabrook · free · typically Tuesday to Sunday 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., April 1 to October 31
The Monroe Field Splash Pad, next to Brummerhop Park, is free and runs from April through October, closed Mondays. Pets aren’t allowed in the splash pad. For a post-splash lunch, see our kid-friendly restaurants in Clear Lake, and our playgrounds guide covers more spray parks across Houston.

18900 Upper Bay Rd, Nassau Bay
David Braun Park sits at the southern end of Upper Bay Road on Lake Nassau, with a walking trail, playground, lake boardwalk, ball fields, tennis courts, a covered basketball pavilion and a fenced dog park. The dog park has separate areas for large and small dogs. Non-residents are welcome but must carry a copy of their dog’s rabies certificate; limit two dogs per adult, and no food or drink inside. The city says the park is also a popular fishing spot on Lake Nassau and Clear Creek.
Miramar Park (Seabrook)
1109 Hammer St, Seabrook · typically 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. (11 p.m. Friday and Saturday)
Miramar Park is home to what Seabrook calls its premiere disc golf course, with a few open holes longer than 300 feet. It also has a playground, swings, a volleyball court and a rentable pavilion.
