Crystal Shops and Metaphysical Stores in Houston: 10 to Know

Date Published

Houston has a surprisingly deep occult and metaphysical scene, and it goes back further than most visitors expect. The oldest shop in the city has been rooted in Montrose since 1985. Today the city's crystal shops, botanicas and metaphysical bookstores cover traditions from Wicca and ceremonial magic to Santería, hoodoo and Voodoo, spread across neighborhoods from The Heights and Montrose to the East End, Third Ward and Southwest Houston. This guide covers 10 currently open shops, every one confirmed via its official site or directory as of October 2026.

How we chose

Every shop here had to be open with a physical address you can walk into. We checked official websites, social pages and directories as of October 2026. We left out online-only operations and any shop whose site showed no current storefront. Hours change often and some shops post them only on Instagram or their website, so treat every schedule below as a starting point and check before you drive.

Montrose

The Magick Cauldron

2424 Montrose Blvd · Mon–Sat 10am–7pm, Sun noon–6pm · est. April 1985

The oldest and largest occult store in Houston, by the shop's own account, has been on Montrose since 1985. The inventory runs to more than 20,000 products: over 3,000 book titles, altar supplies, magickal herbs and oils, tarot and oracle cards, crystals, spell kits and incense. Staff include practicing pagans, Wiccans and ceremonial magicians, and walk-in consultations are complimentary.

One thing to know: Free cleansings run every Sunday. If you are new to this scene, showing up on a Sunday and asking questions is the lowest-pressure way to get oriented. The shop also runs booths at the Texas Renaissance Festival each October and November.

Best for: Anyone starting out, or looking for one of the most complete selections of tools and books under one roof.

The Heights

Thorn & Moon Apothecary

113 E 24th St, Suite A · Mon–Fri noon–7pm, Sat–Sun noon–6pm

A curated apothecary operating out of a Heights cottage, with a dedicated reading room, a witch's kitchen and a pop-up workshop space inside. The inventory comes from 40-plus independent makers and includes handmade ritual tools, crystals, herbal remedies, jewelry and original fragrance lines. A resident store cat is part of the experience.

Classes and readings: Tarot readings available; regular workshops and classes run throughout the year. Check the site or social pages for the current schedule.

Best for: Quality over quantity. Everything here was made by someone, not manufactured in bulk.

Wormwood & Vine

1802 Yale St · Wed–Sun noon–7pm

A woman-owned goth boutique that crosses occult retail with vintage media. You will find ritual candles and incense alongside horror VHS tapes, gothic clothing and vintage vinyl — a combination that is genuinely unusual in Houston's metaphysical scene. The product range is narrower than a full metaphysical store, but the neighborhood makes a Heights double-header easy. See our Heights shopping guide for nearby options.

Best for: Anyone who wants a ritual candle and a horror film from the same shop.

Memorial and the Katy Freeway

Body Mind & Soul

7951 Katy Freeway, Suite N · Mon–Sat 10am–6pm, Sun noon–5pm

A family-run shop describing itself as Houston's largest crystal and metaphysical shop, Body Mind & Soul built its reputation around a self-serve rock bar with hundreds of varieties of stones and gems in labeled bins — a format you can hold and compare before buying. Beyond crystals you will find tarot and oracle decks, books, candles and wellness products.

What's unusual: Very few shops offer such a wide range of stone varieties in one place where you can handle each one before deciding.

Classes and events: Monthly Psychic Sunday events with visiting readers; a regular class calendar including Full Moon Astrology and Shamanic Meditation, Group Past Life Regression and an Empath School Series. Check the site calendar for upcoming dates.

Best for: Crystal buyers who want to compare stones by feel, and anyone drawn to structured workshop learning.

Spring Branch

Indigo Moons

10910 Katy Freeway, Suite 200 · call (346) 538-5906 for current hours

A family-owned shop with a community feel and one practical service worth noting: a wire-wrapping station that converts a stone you pick off the shelf into a pendant for a small fee plus the cost of the stone. Owner Misty Wellman holds Reiki Master, Angelic Medium and Spiritual Healer certifications and offers individual readings in tarot, rune and bone formats. Resident shop cats are on site.

Best for: Anyone who wants to leave with something handmade on the spot.

Westheimer Corridor

Pixie's Intent

2727 Fondren Rd, Suite 5B · daily 11am–7pm

Organized into separate rooms — a crystal room, apothecary room, altar room and tarot room — with inventory sourced from local artisan makers. Most metaphysical shops stock wholesale goods; Pixie's Intent functions as an informal platform for Houston's artisan spiritual community. The stock also includes antiquities, Renaissance costumes and unusual gifts.

Readings: Psychic readings available on site.

Best for: Open-ended browsing. With a wide range of maker sources, you are likely to find things you have not encountered in a metaphysical context before.

East End and East Houston

Absolem's House of Voodoo

4023 Polk St · Mon–Sat approx. 10am–7pm

Houston's only dedicated Voodoo shop, run out of a 100-year-old house on Polk Street by Absolem Yetzirah, who was formally initiated into Voodoo in New Orleans. The interior houses a shrine to Marie Laveau and the stock covers custom oils, mojo bags, candles, herbs, stones and complete spell-casting services. It is the only Houston shop built entirely around African-diasporic Voodoo tradition.

Classes and readings: Workshops, full moon rituals and bone readings on site.

Best for: Anyone with a serious interest in Voodoo tradition, not just the aesthetics.

Krystallia Crystals

7152 Lawndale St · check current hours before visiting

The owners travel directly to mine sites to source their inventory, which shows in the selection: raw specimens, large table-top pieces and uncommon varieties you will not find at chain wellness stores.

Best for: Collectors and buyers who want unusual raw specimens rather than polished tumbles.

Third Ward

Our Little Red One

4213 Emancipation Ave · Mon 11am–6pm, Tue–Sat 10am–7pm, Sun 11am–6pm

Rooted in hoodoo and African-diasporic tradition and describing itself as Houston's first Black-owned metaphysical shop, Our Little Red One is on Emancipation Avenue in the Third Ward by design — the shop operates as a cultural anchor for the community. In-house herbal oils, crystals, candles and ritual items are on the shelf; tarot readings, cleansings, Reiki, chakra services and yoni steaming are available in the shop.

Best for: Anyone whose practice connects to African-American or African-diasporic traditions.

Southwest Houston: botanicas

Houston's large Hispanic and Afro-Caribbean communities have supported botanicas for decades. These shops carry the herbs, statues and ceremonial tools used in Santería, Candomblé and related traditions and are distinct from Wiccan or New Age shops in both inventory and purpose.

Botanica Yerbería Elegua

6995 Highway 6 S · call or check the site for hours

Houston's oldest botanica, by its own account, has been providing herbs and Santería supplies that were otherwise impossible to find in the city for over 30 years. The inventory now covers calderos, soperas, orisha statues, ceremonial sets, hundreds of herbs, sage, candles and palo supplies. Spiritual consultations are available on site.

What's surprising: The depth of ceremonial equipment. This is not a shop with a few orisha candles — it carries complete initiation sets for serious practitioners.

Best for: Practitioners of Santería, Candomblé, Palo or related Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian traditions.

Save this: before you visit

  • Check hours before going. Several shops close on Monday or Tuesday and some post current hours only on Instagram.
  • If you want a reading, call ahead — most shops schedule readers by appointment.
  • A stone you can hold is always better than one ordered online. Plan time to browse.
  • The Magick Cauldron's free Sunday cleansings are a good starting point if you are new to the scene.
  • Body Mind & Soul's Psychic Sunday events are monthly — check the site calendar.
  • Thorn & Moon and Wormwood & Vine are both in The Heights and easy to visit on the same afternoon.
  • Krystallia on Lawndale: check current hours before visiting.

Pair your visit

Crystal shops pair naturally with a longer afternoon in their neighborhoods. Montrose has some of Houston's best restaurants nearby — see our Montrose date night guide. The Heights shops sit near 19th Street boutiques and bars. Crystal browsing is also one of the better options for a rainy day in Houston: air-conditioned, unhurried, free to explore. Or build a date night around a reading followed by dinner.
