Waugh Bridge Bat Colony

Well worth the short walk and wait. It happens really fast, but we were lucky enough to get them when it was still pretty well lit. Highly recommend this... I mean not much you can get in entertainment for free anymore and this show is put on for free by nature.

Fun experience. The bats all fly off within about 5 minutes, so you need to get there early to avoid missing it. They left a few minutes after official sunset time.

This experience never disappoints. It's incredible to watch that many bats leave at once and the gauntlet of hungry birds waiting to pick them off adds some suspense. A few things would make this even better - more signage explaining where to go from the nearby parking areas, more signs that tell about the bats near their bridge, and a tower viewer or two so you can get an up close look. Fantastic for kids of all ages.

A fun and free family visit that I recommend for everyone. I didn’t see any mosquitoes, but we wore bug spray as a precaution. We went on a Friday and an expert was present to give everyone interesting facts on the thousands of bats that we saw. There was some guano, so parents need to be aware and bring hand sanitizer (or keep the little ones away from the underside of the bridge and guard rails underneath the bridge)

beautiful bats ♡ very good bats♡ you can smell the guano tho if you go under the bridge especially. you want to be on the east side of the bridge to see them best or there's a little outpost.
