The Houston Astros play downtown at Daikin Park, a retractable-roof ballpark tucked against Union Station on the east side of the central business district. This is your practical guide to a game: where to buy tickets, how to get there without a parking headache, what to eat, how to do it with kids, and the short version of how a 1962 expansion team became a two-time World Series champion.
The Ballpark: Daikin Park
If you still call it Minute Maid Park, you're not alone. The ballpark opened in 2000 as Enron Field, carried the Minute Maid name for most of its life, and became Daikin Park on January 1, 2025, under a naming-rights deal that runs through the 2039 season. The address is 501 Crawford Street.
The roof is the headline. It covers more than six acres and can open or close in roughly 12 to 20 minutes, so a summer rainstorm or a July heat wave rarely costs you a game. The other signature is the historic 1911 Union Station building, which forms part of the ballpark, and the replica 1860s locomotive that rolls along its track above the field to celebrate home runs.
For a deeper walk-through of seats, sections and quirks, read our Daikin Park visitor guide.
Tickets
Buy from the team's official Astros tickets page, which also lists season plans, group outings and any resale partner the club endorses. Mobile tickets are the norm, so charge your phone before you leave.
A few things to know before you go:
- Gates typically open two hours before first pitch, unless the team announces otherwise.
- The park is fully cashless. Bring a card or phone wallet; reverse ATMs inside convert cash to prepaid cards.
- Bags larger than 16 x 16 x 8 inches are not allowed, and backpacks generally aren't either, with exceptions for diaper and medical bags.
- There is no re-entry once your ticket is scanned.
Policies change, so check the official ballpark guide the week of your game.
Getting There and Parking
By METRORail. The Green and Purple lines stop at Convention District Station, a short walk from the ballpark. Coming from the Medical Center, Museum District or Midtown on the Red Line, transfer at Central Station downtown. On a busy night this is the least stressful way in and, more importantly, out. New to the system? Our METRO Houston guide covers fares and routes.
By bus. Several local METRO routes stop within walking distance near Franklin, Congress and Crawford streets. METRO's Park & Ride options change by schedule, so check the trip planner on ridemetro.org.
By car. The Astros say almost 25,000 parking spaces sit within walking distance of the park, spread across downtown garages and surface lots. Their best advice is also ours: park on the side of downtown you drove in from, and leave the same way. Look for public-parking signs with the baseball "P", and reserve ahead through the team's parking page if you want a guaranteed spot.
What to Eat, In and Around the Park
Inside, concessions are run by Aramark, with stands and carts on every level. Menus rotate, so treat the concourse as a walk-and-browse.
Our tip: eat before the game. Daikin Park sits between downtown and East Downtown, and both neighborhoods have strong pre-game options within walking distance. Start with our guides to the best restaurants in downtown Houston and the best restaurants in EaDo. If you're making a day of it, browse things to do in downtown Houston too.
Family Tips
- The ballpark has 16 family restrooms with changing tables, plus Mamava nursing pods on the Main Concourse near the Right Field Gate and on the club level.
- Kids can join the team's youth fan clubs, listed on the ballpark page.
- You can bring food in a clear plastic bag no larger than one gallon, plus one factory-sealed water bottle up to one liter per person. Both help with picky eaters and budgets.
- Weekend day games and earlier start times are easier on small children than late weeknight games.
- Arrive when gates open. Batting practice and the train are a bigger hit with kids than the late innings.

The Season at a Glance
Major League Baseball's regular season runs from late March or early April through late September, with the postseason in October. Spring training happens in Florida in February and March. Home and road dates, start times and promotional giveaways are posted on the official Astros schedule, which is the only schedule you should plan around.
A Short History of the Astros
Houston joined the National League in 1962 as the Colt .45s, playing outdoors in the summer heat. In 1965 the team became the Astros and moved indoors to the newly opened Astrodome. The club made its first World Series in 2005, moved to the American League in 2013, and won the World Series in 2017 and again in 2022.
The front office still shapes every season. For one look at how, read our breakdown of Dana Brown's best and worst trades.
