- Best Tacos in Spring Branch, Houston: 8 Taquerias Worth Finding
The best tacos in Spring Branch, Houston are on and around Long Point Road: Hidalgo-style lamb barbacoa at El Hidalguense, quesabirria at Tacos Doña Lena on Hammerly Boulevard, and Monterrey-style tacos at Tostada Regia and Tostadería Madero's. If you only have time for one stop, go to El Hidalguense at 6917 Long Point Rd for the barbacoa de borrego and handmade tortillas.
Here's what makes Spring Branch fun to eat through: in one neighborhood you can order lamb barbacoa cooked the Hidalgo way, birria from a family recipe that started in Guanajuato in 1985, 100% halal birria tacos, and a Monterrey breakfast of machacado. Two different kitchens here even serve birria ramen. And going by its posted hours, The Taco Stand on Gessner Road doesn't close from 6 a.m. Friday until midnight Sunday.
Where is Spring Branch?
For this guide, Spring Branch runs from the north side of the Katy Freeway (I-10) up to US 290 and Hempstead Road, and from Beltway 8 (the Sam Houston Tollway) east to roughly Loop 610. That covers zip codes 77055 and 77080 and parts of 77043, 77041 and 77092, and it includes Spring Valley Village and Hilshire Village. Long Point Road is the main street, crossed by Wirt, Antoine, Blalock, Gessner and Bingle.
We left out everything south of I-10, including the Memorial City Mall food court and the taco chains on the south frontage road. Every address below is north of the freeway.

How we chose
We picked taquerias inside the boundaries above that have a clear specialty, from barbacoa and birria to Monterrey tostadas and house-made tortillas. Every pick was confirmed open on its own official website in November 2026, and the menu items and prices below come from those sites.
Spring Branch is also known for its taco trucks, especially along Long Point Road. Most of them don't keep an official website or a public social page we could check, so we didn't list them here. For trucks that we could verify, including one on Gessner Road, see our guide to Houston taco trucks.
Hours and prices change. Treat everything below as "typically" and check the taqueria's site before you go.
Long Point Road
El Hidalguense

El Hidalguense on Long Point Road has been serving Houston families since 1994, according to the restaurant, with recipes it says have been in the family for generations. The reason to come is the barbacoa de borrego: lamb cooked Hidalgo-style with maguey, sold as a plate for one or for two. Cabrito asado (roast young goat) is on the menu too, marked limited availability.
Tacos on corn tortillas start at $2.99 on the official menu. Pay a little extra for the handmade tortillas; you can add eight to any order.
Hours: typically 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Insider tip: cabrito sells out. Go early on a weekend if you have your heart set on it.
