Best Restaurants in Conroe, TX: Catfish, Brisket, Pie and More

Conroe eats on its own clock. The barbecue joint on North Frazier opens at 6:30 a.m., half an hour before Blue Giraffe Cafe pours its first weekday coffee, and the taco stop down the road serves breakfast until 1 a.m. In between you can eat catfish at a family dining room that started with ten tables, a croque madame downtown, and pie from a bakery that ships it across the country.

Conroe isn't a smaller Woodlands. It's a county seat with its own habits, and most of its best tables are local and family-run.

Here's the line to remember: in Conroe, breakfast starts with brisket and ends with tacos, 18 hours later.

What we mean by Conroe

For this guide, Conroe means restaurants with a Conroe street address: the downtown courthouse square (Main, Simonton, Metcalf and Thompson streets), the Frazier Street corridor, West Davis Street (Highway 105 West) toward the lake, Loop 336 and Longmire Road, and League Line Road by I-45.

Lakefront restaurants with Montgomery or Willis addresses, and everything in The Woodlands, sit outside this list. For those, see our best restaurants in The Woodlands and best restaurants in Spring.

How we chose

We started with the Conroe Convention & Visitors Bureau's dining directory and kept only places whose own websites confirmed, in October 2026, that they're open at a Conroe address. That cut some well-known names whose sites were down or out of date. We mixed cheap counters with sit-down dining rooms and weighted toward places with roots in town. Hours come from each official site; they change, so check before you go. Nobody paid to be here.

Five things even regulars don't know

  • Kuntry Katfish started with ten tables. The restaurant says it opened in 1984 with seating for forty, and it's still family-owned.
  • Pie in the Sky began in the back of a convenience store. Its founder started baking there in 1997 and opened the first shop in 2005. Today it ships pies nationwide.
  • The French café is also a pizza place. Paulette says a huge rotary oven sits at the heart of its downtown kitchen.
  • Two restaurants, one address. Taste The Asian lists its Conroe address as 118 Simonton Street, the same as Dragon Bowl C, which runs a vendor program for food sellers downtown.
  • The chocolate comes from Venezuela. Chocolate Passion says it makes its handmade chocolates from Venezuelan organic Criollo cacao.
