Kid-Friendly Restaurants in The Woodlands: Splash Pads, Patios, Pizza

Date Published

Illustration of kid friendly restaurants in The Woodlands: splash pad, pizza and pines at night

In The Woodlands, the best kids' menu comes with a splash pad on the side. Three of the community's dining districts sit right next to free water features, so you can eat, let the kids run it off, and be home before nap time ends.

This guide to kid friendly restaurants in The Woodlands is the shortlist we'd hand a friend with a stroller in the trunk. Every restaurant on it was checked as operating on its own official website (or its shopping center's official directory) as of October 2026, and each one earns its spot with at least one thing parents actually care about: a play space nearby, a patio with room to wiggle, a real kids' menu, or parking that doesn't involve a garage ramp and a meltdown.

Where we drew the line

The Woodlands isn't a city. It's a master-planned community governed by The Woodlands Township, and it stretches across two counties, Montgomery and Harris. For this guide, "The Woodlands" means the Township's villages, from Grogan's Mill and Panther Creek to Alden Bridge, Sterling Ridge and Creekside Park, plus Town Center, the Waterway and the Research Forest corridor.

That rule cost us some good restaurants. Places with a Shenandoah, Spring or Conroe address are off the list, even the ones a mile from the Township line. If you're happy to cross it, our Spring restaurant guide picks up where this one stops.

The quick list

  • For a splash pad with lunch: Fielding's Local Kitchen + Bar at Creekside Park, or True Food Kitchen on Market Street.
  • For a scavenger hunt after pizza: Grimaldi's on the Waterway.
  • For pizza with a play area: Crust Pizza Co. in Panther Creek.
  • For a birthday: Benihana.
  • For the early risers: Black Walnut, open from 7 a.m., or Torchy's from 9 a.m.
  • For picky eaters and healthy-ish parents: Flower Child or Bellagreen.
  • For a burger the whole table agrees on: Hopdoddy.

How we chose

We started with the things that make dinner out with kids work: room to move, food children will eat, and a quick getaway. Then we checked every pick against its official site for a current address and hours. Where a kid-friendly detail comes from somewhere other than the restaurant (for example, a play area or splash pad nearby), it comes from Visit The Woodlands, the area's official visitor bureau, or from the shopping center that runs the space.

Hours, prices and kids' deals change. Treat every schedule below as "typically" and check the restaurant's site before you load up the car.

Town Center and the Waterway

Grimaldi's Pizzeria

The Woodlands Waterway, 20 Waterway Ave · coal-fired pizza · typically open daily from 11 a.m.

Grimaldi's has two floors, two covered patios and a balcony overlooking the Waterway, which means you can usually find a table where a toddler's volume isn't a problem. Visit The Woodlands notes the restaurant hands out coloring menus and a little pizza dough to play with.

Insider tip: Grimaldi's stokes its coal ovens twice a day, once in the morning and again at 3 p.m. After dinner, walk over to Waterway Square, where "Treasures from Grandma's Purse," a water-art piece by a local mosaic artist, doubles as a seek-and-find splash pad, with little treasures hidden in the artwork for kids to discover. Challenge them to spot as many as they can before the towels come out.

Getting there: the free Woodlands Trolley and Waterway boat tours both leave steps from the door, according to the restaurant.

True Food Kitchen

Market Street, 9595 Six Pines Dr · seasonal, health-minded menu · typically open from 11 a.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. weekends

True Food is the parent-friendly pick on Market Street: a menu that leans fresh and seasonal, with weekend hours that start at 10 a.m. The bigger draw for families is the Market Street Fountain, the splash pad in Central Park, a short walk from the restaurant.

Before you go: Market Street says the fountain typically runs March through October, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and requires swim diapers or swim shorts for little ones. Pack a towel and a change of clothes.

Parking: Market Street has free surface lots, and the first hour in the garage is complimentary. The free Woodlands Trolley also stops at Market Street on Lake Robbins Drive.

Also on Market Street: Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar sits next to the same Central Park splash pad, and has an outdoor patio.

Benihana

Town Center, 1720 Lake Woodlands Dr · teppanyaki · typically open daily from 11 a.m.

Nothing holds a seven-year-old's attention like a chef cooking dinner on a flat-top grill right at your table. Benihana's Kabuki Kids meals are for children 12 and under, and on a child's birthday, any Kabuki Kids meal comes with a free birthday mug.

Best for: birthdays, grandparents' visits and rainy days. The restaurant sits near The Woodlands Mall.

Flower Child

Town Center, 1900 Lake Woodlands Dr · bowls, wraps and plates · typically open daily, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Flower Child solves the "my kid only eats three things" problem. Its Healthy Kids plate, for children 12 and under, lets them pick a protein (chicken, steak or tofu) and two sides from a list that includes gluten-free mac and cheese, fresh fruit, smashed potatoes and broccoli with Parmesan. Parents get a menu full of vegetables that don't taste like a punishment.

Best for: a quick, wholesome lunch between errands at the mall.

Creekside Park

Fielding's Local Kitchen + Bar

Creekside Park Village Green, 26400 Kuykendahl Rd · American grill · lunch Tuesday to Friday, brunch Saturday and Sunday, dinner nightly

This is our favourite answer to "where can we have a grown-up meal and the kids still have fun?" Fielding's sits on the Creekside Park Village Green, which has a splash pad, shaded seating and wide-open lawn. The kids' menu, for children 12 and under, is typically $13 and includes slider cheeseburgers, grilled cheese, pizza and pasta, with gelato for dessert.

Insider tip: go for weekend brunch (typically 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), then hand the kids over to the splash pad. On Mondays the restaurant typically opens for dinner only.

Panther Creek and the villages

Crust Pizza Co.

Panther Creek Shopping Center, 4775 W. Panther Creek Dr · Chicago-style thin crust · typically open daily from 11 a.m.

Crust is the neighborhood pizza place done right, with dough made in house several times a day and cheese shredded from the block. Visit The Woodlands points out a small outdoor play area steps from the patio, and there's a full kids' meals section on the menu.

Good to know: Visit The Woodlands calls out Crust's budget-friendly kids' meals, so ask about the current kids' pricing when you order. The chain has more locations around The Woodlands, but Panther Creek is the one with the play area nearby.

Torchy's Tacos

Research Forest, 4747 Research Forest Dr · tacos and queso · typically opens at 9 a.m.

Torchy's opens early enough for a breakfast-taco run before Saturday soccer. Its kids' combos come with a bean and cheese or fajita chicken taco, chicken tenders or fried avocado bites, or a quesadilla, plus a side and a bottled water.

Best for: fast, casual and loud enough that nobody notices your toddler.

Research Forest and the Township core

Black Walnut Kitchen & Bar

9000 New Trails Dr · breakfast, lunch and dinner · typically open from 7 a.m. daily

Black Walnut has been feeding The Woodlands since 2002, and its current home sits on Research Forest Drive next to The Woodlands Township building. It serves breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., so the family that's been up since 5:30 has somewhere to go. There's a patio, and weekend brunch runs until 4 p.m.

Insider tip: Wednesday evenings typically bring live music from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., which is just the right length for a family dinner.

Bellagreen

2501 Research Forest Dr · scratch-made American · typically open from 10:30 a.m.

Bellagreen's Woodlands location has the large patio Visit The Woodlands calls out for families who need room to spread out, and its kids' menu is made from scratch, with burgers and cheese pizza on the lineup. Weekend brunch typically runs until 2:30 p.m.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar

2417 Research Forest Dr · burgers and shakes · typically open daily from 11 a.m.

Hopdoddy is the safe bet for a mixed-age table: proper burgers for the adults, kids' meals with a side and a drink for the small ones, and shakes for everyone. It's right down the road from Bellagreen, so if one has a wait, you have a plan B.

Save this: the splash-pad lunch route

The Woodlands' public splash pads typically run from March 1 to October 31, so this route works best in spring, summer and early fall.

  1. Morning: Market Street Fountain. Swim diapers on, towels out, park in a free surface lot.
  2. Lunch: True Food Kitchen, a short walk away, or Tommy Bahama next to the fountain.
  3. Afternoon: take the free trolley or drive to Waterway Square and hunt for the "Treasures from Grandma's Purse."
  4. Early dinner: Grimaldi's on the Waterway, with a balcony view.

Weekend swap: do brunch at Fielding's in Creekside Park and let the kids loose on the Village Green splash pad after.

Pack list: swim diapers or swim shorts, a towel, dry clothes, sunscreen and a plastic bag for the wet stuff.

Before you go

  • Check the season. Splash pads typically close for the winter, so from November to February lean on Benihana, Flower Child and the indoor picks.
  • Go early. Most of these restaurants open at 11 a.m. or earlier, and arriving before noon on weekends usually saves you a wait.
  • Parking is mostly easy. The Research Forest and Panther Creek picks have surface lots. Market Street has free surface lots and a garage with a free first hour.
