Date Night in Spring Branch: 12 Dinners, Drinks and a Park Stroll

Date Published

Date night Spring Branch illustration: tabletop grill, cocktails, candy shop and park gazebo

The best date night in Spring Branch, Houston pairs dinner at Bori, a Korean steakhouse on Witte Road, or El Hidalguense, a Hidalgo-style Mexican restaurant on Long Point Road, with a cocktail at Aye Candy, a speakeasy hidden behind a candy shop on Bingle Road. For something lower-key, split a barbecue board at Feges BBQ, then walk off dinner around the gazebo at Spring Valley Village City Park.

Spring Branch doesn't dress up for date night the way Montrose or the Galleria do, and that's the appeal. Long Point Road is lined with Korean grills, taquerias and family restaurants, so the good stuff takes a little knowing. Here's the shortlist we'd hand a friend, with a pick for every kind of couple.

In Spring Branch, the best drink of the night might be waiting behind a candy counter.

Where is Spring Branch?

For this guide, Spring Branch is the part of west Houston north of the Katy Freeway (I-10) and south of US 290 and Hempstead Road, from Beltway 8 east to roughly Loop 610. That includes the small cities of Spring Valley Village and Hilshire Village. It leaves out Memorial City and CityCentre, which sit on the south side of I-10 and get their own Memorial date night guide. Our Spring Branch area page has the bigger picture.

How we chose

We picked places inside that boundary with food, drinks or atmosphere worth a night out, then grouped them so you can build a date around one stretch of road. Every pick was checked as operating on its own official website or official social account in November 2026.

Hours and menus change, and several spots close one day a week, so treat every schedule below as "typically" and check the official site before you go.

The quick list

  • For a special-occasion dinner: Bori, a Korean steakhouse with dry-aged beef.
  • For a dinner that feels like a family party: El Hidalguense, serving since 1994.
  • For a casual date with great barbecue: Feges BBQ.
  • For a cocktail with a secret: Aye Candy, a speakeasy behind a candy shop.
  • For an active date: pickleball, then a nightcap, at Long Point Social Club.
  • For a free walk: Spring Valley Village City Park.

Dinner: where to eat on a Spring Branch date night

Spring Branch's date-night dinners lean Korean, regional Mexican and barbecue, and most sit on or near Long Point Road.

1. Bori

Spring Branch, 1453 Witte Rd · Korean steakhouse · lunch weekdays, dinner nightly

Bori in Spring Branch is the dressiest dinner on this list. The restaurant describes itself as a South Korean-inspired steakhouse, and the menu runs from a seafood pancake with shrimp, clams, octopus and squid to galbi jjim (braised short rib with ginseng) and a dry-aged ribeye aged a minimum of 41 days. Dinner typically runs 5 to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and from noon on weekends.

I didn't know that: bori is the Korean word for barley, and the restaurant's about page says the name honors barley "with a spirit of gratitude and perseverance." The Spring Branch location also has a terrace it calls the Peace Garden, which promotes the unity of Korea.

Book it: reservations are on the official site. For more grills nearby, see our Korean BBQ guide.

2. El Hidalguense

Long Point Road, 6917 Long Point Rd · Hidalgo-style Mexican · open daily

El Hidalguense on Long Point Road has been feeding Spring Branch since 1994, and it's the date for couples who'd rather share a feast than sit through courses. The specialty is barbacoa de borrego, lamb cooked Hidalgo-style in maguey leaves, plus cabrito asado (grilled young goat) while supplies last, and handmade tortillas. It typically opens at 8 a.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. on weekends.

Tip: the barbacoa comes in a portion for two. The restaurant takes online reservations and recommends booking ahead, especially on weekends, through elhid.com.

Best for: a long, loud, happy dinner.

Order brisket by the half pound, the smoked-then-fried pork ribs, hogfat cornbread and churro banana pudding to share.

Date-night tip: Feges runs a weekly BBQ Board Night on Tuesday evenings and Wine Wednesdays, and the official site lists pizza on the patio on the first Wednesday of each month. It's walk-in only, and it typically closes at 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, so this is an early dinner. Check fegesbbq.com for the current schedule.

It typically opens at 5 p.m. and stays open until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with live music every other Saturday.

Before you go: it's 21 and up with photo ID for every guest, and an "elevated smart casual" dress code is enforced on Friday and Saturday evenings (no athletic wear, slides or hats indoors). Reservations go through Toast, linked from the official site.

Best for: the big reveal. More in our Spring Branch bars guide.

8. Loose Cannon

Long Point Road, 8518 Long Point Rd · nautical dive bar · closed Mondays

It's small, quiet and leafy, which is exactly what you want for a lap after dinner.
