Best Burgers in Westchase, Houston: 8 Picks, Westheimer to Westpark

Date Published

The best burgers in Westchase, Houston start with the Rio Burger at Rio Ranch, a double thin-patty lunch burger served inside the Hilton Houston Westchase at 9999 Westheimer Road. For a halal smash burger stacked up to four patties, go to Mash Dogs at 11150 Westheimer Road; for something nobody else in the district serves, try the Dakar Burger at Dakar Street Food on Walnut Bend Lane. Five Guys, Chili's, Cheddar's, Whataburger and Wendy's fill in the rest, all inside the district.

Here's the line worth stealing: in Westchase, you can eat a burger under a ceiling salvaged from a barn older than the Civil War. Rio Ranch says the ceiling over its saloon came from a pre-Civil War barn, and the restaurant has been on Westheimer since January 1993.

What counts as Westchase in this guide?

This guide covers the Westchase business district in west Houston: Westheimer Road on the north (businesses on both sides of the street count), Gessner Road on the east, the Westpark Tollway on the south and West Houston Center Boulevard on the west, with Beltway 8 running through the middle. It's the same line we use in our Westchase breakfast guide.

The Westchase District, the management district created in 1995, is mostly offices, hotels and apartments, so its burger scene is small and spread out. Places east of Gessner, such as the stretch of Westheimer around Fondren, and places south of the Westpark Tollway in Alief, are left out on purpose. For more of the neighborhood, see our Westchase area page.

How we chose

Every pick had to sit inside the boundary above, serve a beef burger, and show its current address on its own official website, checked in November 2026. We favored places where the burger is a real reason to go, then kept a few chains because Westchase is an office district and they are where the lunch crowd actually eats.

We left out places we couldn't confirm on an official site, and a Beck's Prime that used to sit on Westheimer but no longer appears on the chain's location list. Hours and menus change, so treat every time below as typical and check the official site before you go.

Where is the best sit-down burger in Westchase?

Rio Ranch, the restaurant inside the Hilton Houston Westchase, serves the best sit-down burger in Westchase, but only at lunch.

Rio Ranch

Hilton Houston Westchase, 9999 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77042 · lunch typically Mon–Fri 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

Rio Ranch at the Hilton Houston Westchase calls itself a West Houston landmark since January 1993, and its current menu mixes Texas steakhouse cooking with Italian technique. The burger to order is the Rio Burger on the lunch menu: two thin Angus beef patties with American cheese, caramelized onions, pickles and a poblano sauce, served with fries.

Insider tip: eat it at the saloon. Rio Ranch says the bar is a 22-foot mesquite bar under a ceiling salvaged from a pre-Civil War barn, with a mural of an 1890s Texas trail ride. The Rio Burger is listed on the weekday lunch menu, not the dinner menu, so plan a workday lunch.

Best for: a business lunch that feels like more than a desk sandwich.

Where can you get a halal burger in Westchase?

Mash Dogs on Westheimer Road serves halal beef across its whole menu, including a full lineup of smash burgers.

Mash Dogs

11150 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77042 · hours on the official site

Mash Dogs in Westchase is a Texas hot dog chain that takes its burgers just as seriously. Its official menu lists smash burgers from a single up to a Quadruple Smash, four halal beef patties with four slices of American cheese, grilled onions and smash sauce; the single, double and triple come on a Martin's potato bun. If you want a twist, the Elote Smash Burger tops the patty with seasoned roasted corn, mayo, Tajín, parmesan and jalapeños. Mash Dogs' own site labels this store its "Memorial" location, but the address puts it on Westheimer inside our boundary.

Best for: a halal burger, and the curious friend who orders the elote dog on the side. More picks are in our halal restaurants guide and our smash burger guide.

Which Westchase burger should you try that you can't get anywhere else?

The Dakar Burger at Dakar Street Food, a Senegalese restaurant on Walnut Bend Lane, is the burger in Westchase you won't find on a chain menu.

Dakar Street Food

2923 Walnut Bend Ln, Houston, TX 77042 · typically 11 a.m.–10 p.m.

Dakar Street Food in Westchase cooks Senegalese street food, from jollof chicken to dibi lamb, and slips a burger onto the menu. The Dakar Burger is an 8-ounce seasoned beef patty with lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions, cheddar and a house-made sauce on a brioche bun. The restaurant's site lists a fried egg or avocado as add-ons.

Insider tip: come for the burger, leave with the lamb. If the burger is sold out online, ask in person, then order the dibi lamb for the table so you can say you tried Dakar's real specialty.

Best for: the adventurous eater who still wants a burger in hand.

The reliable chains: build-your-own, groups and happy hour

Five Guys, Chili's and Cheddar's are the Westchase burger stops for a group, a quick dine-in lunch or a happy hour.

Five Guys

It offers dine-in and outdoor seating.

Chili's Grill & Bar (Carillon)

Chili's in the Carillon shopping center is the Westchase burger stop that stays open late on weekends and has a weekday happy hour, typically Monday to Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Its Big Mouth Burgers section includes the Big Smasher, the Double Big Smasher, the Big QP and Alex's Santa Fe Burger.

Best for: an after-work group that wants burgers and a margarita. Carillon is a few steps from Rio Ranch, so it doubles as your dinner backup when the Rio Burger isn't being served.

Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen

10601 Westpark Dr, Houston, TX 77042 · typically 11 a.m.–11 p.m.

Cheddar's on Westpark Drive is the place for a half-pound burger at a sit-down lunch. Its menu lists a Classic Cheeseburger, a Bacon Cheeseburger and a Smokehouse Burger, and a weekday lunch special Classic Cheeseburger runs Monday to Friday from opening to 3 p.m. The restaurant has a waitlist you can join online, which helps at peak lunch.

Best for: a cheap, filling team lunch near the Westpark Tollway.

Where can you get a burger late at night in Westchase?

Whataburger at Westheimer and Beltway 8 is the Westchase burger stop that Whataburger lists as open 24 hours.

Whataburger

2720 W Sam Houston Pkwy S, Houston, TX 77042 · listed as open 24 hours

Whataburger store #745 sits on the Beltway 8 frontage road at Westheimer, which makes it the easiest late-night burger in the district. Whataburger's location page lists 24-hour service at this store, while the dining room typically keeps shorter hours (about 6 a.m. to midnight, later on weekends), so after midnight plan on the drive-thru. It's the Texas burger every out-of-town colleague asks about, so this is where to take them.

Best for: late flights, late shifts and anyone who needs a burger after midnight. More ideas are in our late-night food guide.

Wendy's

Walnut Bend, 10780 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77042 · typically opens 4:30 a.m.

Wendy's on Westheimer near Walnut Bend Lane is the earliest burger stop on this list: its location page shows it opening at 4:30 a.m., with breakfast, mobile ordering and Wi-Fi. Wendy's says it uses fresh, never-frozen beef in its square patties, and the Baconator is the burger to order.

Best for: an early shift, or a burger and a Frosty on the way home.
