Best Burgers in the Energy Corridor, Houston: 8 Picks Off I-10

Date Published

The best burgers in the Energy Corridor are Becks Prime on Dairy Ashford Road for a mesquite-grilled classic, Flip ’n Patties on Eldridge Parkway for Filipino-American Wagyu burgers on steamed buns, and Christians Tailgate on Highway 6 North for a game-day burger. Our eight picks also include Pappy’s Cafe and a 24-hour Whataburger on the Katy Freeway (I-10), Smashburger for a quick smash burger, Kirkwood for a chef’s double-Wagyu burger, and Topgolf for a burger between swings.

Here’s the fun part: the Energy Corridor’s fanciest burger is served at Kirkwood, a restaurant you enter past a replica of the Astrodome. The family behind it is Mac Haik’s. Haik played receiver for the Houston Oilers and caught the first touchdown pass in the Astrodome, on August 1, 1968, according to the restaurant group, and his real estate work from 1972 helped shape the land that became the Energy Corridor. In west Houston, even the burger has a stadium story.

Where is the Energy Corridor, for this guide?

The Energy Corridor is the office district along the Katy Freeway (I-10) in west Houston, between Addicks and Barker reservoirs. The Energy Corridor District describes its footprint as more than 2,000 acres along I-10 from Kirkwood Road to west of Barker Cypress Road, with an arm that reaches south along Eldridge Parkway to south of Briar Forest Drive.

We used that footprint, plus the neighborhoods directly around it between Kirkwood Road and Highway 6, north of Westheimer Road. That’s the same boundary as our best pizza in the Energy Corridor guide. Every pick below has a street address inside it. Burger spots east of Kirkwood belong to our best burgers in Memorial list, and anything west of the reservoirs is in best burgers in Katy. For the wider neighborhood, start at our Energy Corridor area page.

How we chose

Every pick has a street address inside the boundary above and was checked on its own official website, ordering page or official menu in November 2026. We looked for places where the burger is a real reason to go, whether that’s the cooking method, the bun, the hours or the setting. Two national chains made the cut because they fill a gap: Whataburger never closes, and Smashburger brings a quick made-to-order smash burger to Eldridge Parkway.

Hours and menus change. Treat every time below as typical and check the restaurant’s own site before you go. For the citywide picture, see our best burgers in Houston guide.

The Houston classics

Two Houston names with decades behind them anchor the Energy Corridor’s burger map, both a short hop from an I-10 exit.

Becks Prime (Dairy Ashford)

1202 Dairy Ashford Rd, Houston, TX 77079 · typically daily 11 a.m.–10 p.m.

Becks Prime on Dairy Ashford Road is the Energy Corridor’s go-to classic burger, with a drive-thru, outdoor tables, beer and wine. The first Becks Prime opened on Kirby Drive in 1985 with a double drive-thru and an open-air patio. Cooks on site grind and patty Certified Angus Beef chuck every morning and grill it over mesquite wood coals, and the company says its only freezer is for the beer mugs.

What to order: Bill’s Burger, with Prime sauce, sautéed onions, cheddar, applewood bacon, jalapeños and lettuce on an egg bun baked daily. If you want something simpler, the Hickory Cheeseburger brings house-smoked hickory sauce and American cheese.

Why it’s here: mesquite smoke, a fresh grind and a drive-thru lane make it the best burger you can eat in your car between meetings.

Pappy’s Cafe

12313 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079 · typically Sun–Thu 11 a.m.–9 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–10 p.m.; weekend brunch 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

Pappy’s Cafe bills itself as Houston’s favorite comfort food since 1983, and its Katy Freeway location serves classic Texas comfort food in the Energy Corridor. Its burgers are a full half pound, served on a sweet sourdough bun, with waffle fries, regular fries or hand-cut fries on the side.

What to order: the Akaushi (Kobe) Burger, or the Hickory Burger with hickory sauce, American cheese, pickles, red onion, tomato and lettuce. Skipping bread? The Bunless Wonder piles chili, grilled onions, diced tomatoes, cheddar and chives on a grilled patty over shredded lettuce.

Insider tip: Pappy’s menu marks its burgers as keto-friendly if you swap the bun for fresh leaf lettuce.

Where to get a smash burger in the Energy Corridor

If you want crispy, lacy edges, Smashburger on Eldridge Parkway is the dedicated counter, and Christians Tailgate on Highway 6 North does a double or triple too.

Smashburger (Eldridge)

1635 Eldridge Pkwy, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77077 · dine-in typically Sun–Thu 10:30 a.m.–9:30 p.m., Fri–Sat 10:30 a.m.–10 p.m.

Smashburger on Eldridge Parkway is the quick, reliable smash burger in the district’s Eldridge arm. The chain started in Denver in 2007 and says it uses fresh, never-frozen Certified Angus Beef, smashed on the grill and served on a butter-toasted bun.

What to order: the Classic Smash, with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, Smash Sauce and ketchup. The Truffle Mushroom Smash, with crimini mushrooms, aged Swiss and truffle mayo, is the richer choice.

For more crispy-edged options across town, see our best smash burgers in Houston list.

Chef-driven and different

These two Energy Corridor kitchens take the burger somewhere you won’t find at a drive-thru.

Flip ’n Patties (Energy Corridor)

1809 Eldridge Pkwy, Suite 108, Houston, TX 77077 · typically Mon–Thu 11 a.m.–9 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–10 p.m., closed Sunday

Flip ’n Patties in the Energy Corridor serves Filipino-American comfort food, and its burgers are the reason burger fans drive over. The restaurant says it started in a garage and now runs two Houston-area kitchens, here and in Sugar Land. Its burgers come on steamed buns, made with 100% Wagyu beef from Wagyuru Ranch, a Texas ranch, and served with fries.

What to order: the signature Flip ’n Patties Burger, plus garlic rice or lumpia for the table. Save room for an ube dessert; the purple-yam sweets are a house specialty.

Why it’s here: a Wagyu patty on a soft steamed bun, with banana ketchup on the table, is a burger you won’t find at the drive-thrus along I-10.

Kirkwood

11720 Katy Fwy, Energy Tower II, Houston, TX 77079 · typically Sun–Thu 11 a.m.–9 p.m., Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–10 p.m.

Kirkwood is the Mac Haik Restaurant Group’s modern clubhouse on the ground floor of Energy Tower II, near I-10 and North Kirkwood Road. It opened in May 2026 with a menu of updated American classics from executive chef Stephen Chiang, and it is the Energy Corridor’s power-lunch room. The name honors Kirkwood Road, one of the area’s original thoroughfares.

What to order: the Kirkwood Burger, a double Wagyu patty with a porcini-onion topping, pickles and house sauce. At lunch it comes with fries. Pair it with the Kirkwood Old Fashioned, made with beef-tallow-infused Woodford Reserve.

Don’t miss: the Astrodome replica at the entrance and the black-and-white photos of Haik’s 1968 touchdown, which the restaurant group calls the first ever recorded in an indoor stadium.

Burgers with something to do

Sometimes the burger comes with a game on, or a golf club in your hand.

Christians Tailgate Bar & Grill (Energy Corridor)

1010 Highway 6 N, Houston, TX 77079 · typically Sun–Wed 11 a.m.–midnight, Thu–Sat 11 a.m.–2 a.m.

Christians Tailgate on Highway 6 North is the Energy Corridor’s burger-and-a-game bar, one of three Houston locations along with the Heights and Midtown. Its own tagline is “Burgers, Beers, Friends.” Most burgers are a third of a pound on a fresh toasted bun, and you can turn any burger into a bowl if you’re skipping bread.

What to order: the Bacon Bacon Burger, which has ground pork mixed into the patty; the menu warns that the bacon in the patty will look pink. If you want crunch, the Smash Burger comes as a double or triple on a buttery potato bun with crunchy crispy onions, pickles and American cheese.

Why it’s here: it’s the burger for a weeknight game, with the kitchen running until 2 a.m. later in the week. For more sports bars nearby, see our best bars in the Energy Corridor.

Topgolf Houston – Katy

1030 Memorial Brook Blvd, Houston, TX 77084 · typically Mon–Thu 10 a.m.–midnight, Fri 10 a.m.–1 a.m., Sat 9 a.m.–1 a.m., Sun 10 a.m.–midnight

Topgolf’s Energy Corridor venue sits just north of I-10 near Highway 6, and its full kitchen menu runs to smash burgers and sliders. Topgolf calls this location Houston – Katy on its site, though the address is Houston.

What to order: the Smokehouse Burger, a smash burger with bacon, barbecue sauce and cheddar, or the Mushroom Gruyère Burger with truffle aioli, sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions. Topgolf says you can swap a black bean patty onto any burger.

The all-hours burger

One drive-thru keeps the Energy Corridor fed around the clock.

Whataburger (I-10 and Kirkwood)

12121 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079 · open 24 hours, every day

Whataburger’s store No. 131 at I-10 and Kirkwood keeps its drive-thru and dining room open 24 hours. The first Whataburger opened on August 8, 1950, on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi, founded by Harmon Dobson, and the chain still serves its burgers on a big toasted five-inch bun made with never-frozen beef.

What to order: a Double Meat Whataburger with cheese, with grilled jalapeños added. It’s the burger for after a late flight or an evening at the office.
