The best burgers in Tomball, TX come from eight places: Snarky’s Pizza & Burgers, Every-Bellies, Bonfire Grill and Graze in Old Town Tomball, Goodson’s Cafe and Whataburger on Highway 249, Ron’s Hamburgers & Chili on FM 2920 and Craft Grill on Kuykendahl Road. If you only have time for one, go to Snarky’s on Market Street for a smash burger from the team behind Tejas Chocolate + Barbecue.

Here’s the line to send your group chat: in one small town you can eat a burger made from four different animals, a burger topped with German sausage and sauerkraut, and an Oklahoma-style burger with the onions fried right into the patty, without ever leaving Tomball.

Where does Tomball start and stop?

For this guide, Tomball means the City of Tomball plus the surrounding area with a Tomball mailing address inside four roads: Spring Cypress Road to the south, Hufsmith-Kohrville Road to the west, Holderrieth Road to the north and Kuykendahl Road to the east. That takes in Old Town around Main, Market and Elm streets, the Highway 249 (Tomball Parkway) corridor and FM 2920. Spring, Cypress, Creekside Park and The Woodlands have their own guides, so their burger joints aren’t here. See our Tomball area page for the wider picture.

The quick list

  • The house-ground burger: Craft Grill, which grinds a 21-day-aged Angus blend every day.
  • Any hour of the night: Whataburger on Tomball Parkway or Kuykendahl Road, open 24 hours.

How we chose

Every pick was confirmed open on its own official website in October 2026, with a Tomball address inside the boundary above and a burger on its current menu. We started with places where the burger is a real reason to go, added a few sit-down restaurants whose burger stands out on the menu, and finished with one Texas-born 24-hour classic. Places whose official sites we couldn’t reach or read are left out for now.

Hours and prices change, so read every schedule below as “typically” and check the restaurant’s site before you drive.

Old Town Tomball: four burgers within walking distance

Old Town is where to start: four of the eight picks sit within a few blocks of the Tomball railroad depot, so you can park once and walk.

Snarky’s Pizza & Burgers

Snarky’s Pizza & Burgers on Market Street in Old Town Tomball comes from the team behind Tejas Chocolate + Barbecue, and it serves sourdough pizza and smash burgers. According to Visit Tomball, it took the place of the team’s Tejas Burger Joint in May 2026, moving into a bigger space with an Italian-built pizza oven.

What to order: an old-town smash burger, the style Snarky’s puts first on its About page. Visit Tomball says the full Tejas Burger lineup came along too, so you can also choose a half-pound smoked burger, the barbecue side of the family.

Insider tip: Snarky’s posts a lunch special Tuesday to Friday, 11am to 3pm.

Highway 249 and FM 2920

The highway side of Tomball is where you’ll find a cafe with roots back to 1950, an Oklahoma import and the 24-hour option.

Goodson’s Cafe

27931 State Highway 249 · typically 11am to 9pm daily

Goodson’s Cafe on Highway 249 is famous for chicken-fried steak, but its burgers have a long Tomball pedigree too. The cafe says its story began in 1950, when Ella Goodson went to work at a small cafe near Tomball; four years later she bought it, just as an oil boom filled the dining room with field workers.

What to order: the Double Bacon Cheeseburger, which the menu itself labels “World’s Best!”: ground beef, bacon, American and Swiss, mustard, grilled onions, tomato and lettuce. Burgers come with fries, and you can swap in coleslaw.

Why it’s here: a burger at a Tomball institution. Order a side of the famous yeast rolls. Official site

Ron’s Hamburgers & Chili

14257 FM 2920, Suite 210 · check the official site or call for hours

Ron’s Hamburgers & Chili on FM 2920 is one of only two Texas locations of an Oklahoma burger family that started in 1975, according to Ron’s official locations page (the other is in Magnolia). Every burger is cooked to order and seasoned with Ron’s own seasoning salt, and the restaurant serves real draft root beer rather than alcohol.

What to order: Ron’s Special, its best seller: a cheeseburger with onions fried into the meat, topped with bacon bits, a slice of ham, pepper jack and American cheese. Hungrier? The Big Daddy is a half-pound cheeseburger. Add a cup of Ron’s chili, which won a top 4-star award from the International Chili Society.

Craft Grill

25219 Kuykendahl Road · typically 10:30am to 9pm daily, until 10pm Friday and Saturday

Craft Grill on Kuykendahl Road calls its food Texas scratch cooking and has served it since 2016. The burgers are the reason to come: the restaurant grinds them fresh in-house every day from its own blend of Angus chuck, top sirloin and ribeye aged for 21 days, served on toasted potato buns.

What to order: The Signature Burger with smoked gouda pimento cheese and bourbon bacon jam, or Don’t Go BACON My Heart with bacon jam, goat cheese, balsamic glaze and arugula. The CG Smashburger is two small patties with American cheese and caramelized onions.
