How we chose

We limited this list to burger-focused restaurants and burger-forward spots where the burger is worth making the trip for, not just a menu afterthought. Each one had to show current hours on an official website at the time of writing. We left out national chains (McDonald's, Burger King, Five Guys) and anything we couldn't confirm as currently open online.

Old Town Spring: two historic buildings, two great burgers

Old Town Spring is a restored 19th-century commercial district on the north side of Spring, about a mile east of I-45 at Spring-Cypress Road. Two restaurants here deserve the detour.

Wunsche Bros. Cafe and Saloon

103 Midway St, Old Town Spring · open daily

Wunsche Bros. has been operating out of the same building since 1902, which makes it a Texas Historical Landmark and the oldest original structure in Old Town Spring. That's not a backdrop detail — you feel it in the original brickwork and the bar that's been pouring drinks for over a century. Order the Wunsche Burger: a 1-inch thick 80/20 patty on toasted brioche with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and dill pickles. The Black and Bleu adds blue cheese crumbles, sautéed mushrooms and onions, and smoked bacon. Live music on weekends.

Typically open Monday through Thursday 11 AM to 9 PM, Friday and Saturday to 10 PM, Sunday to 9 PM. Check the official site before going. More to do nearby in our Spring, TX guide.

Puffabelly's Old Depot Restaurant

100 Main St, Old Town Spring · closed Mondays

One block from Wunsche Bros., Puffabelly's occupies a beautifully restored historic train depot — high ceilings, original depot architecture, and live bands every Friday and Saturday night. The Puffabelly Burger and Chili Cheese Burger are both house-pattied; pair either with onion rings or fried okra. Typically open Tuesday through Thursday 11 AM to 9 PM, Friday and Saturday to 10 PM, Sunday to 9 PM. Check the official site for hours.

Spring Cypress corridor: smash, halal, and a family original

Trill Burgers

6810 Louetta Rd, Spring · open late Fri–Sun

Co-founded by Houston rap legend Bun B, Trill Burgers earned national attention when Good Morning America named its OG Burger the best in America in 2022. The OG is two smashed all-beef patties, caramelized onions, pickles, and proprietary Trill Sauce on a potato roll — a study in restraint done right. The Spring location, their second location, keeps a rare late-night schedule on weekends: open until midnight Friday through Sunday.

Typically Monday through Thursday 11 AM to 9 PM, Friday through Sunday 11 AM to midnight. Check Trill Burgers' site for current hours.

JAX Burger, Fries and Shakes

1206 Spring Cypress Rd, Spring · closed Sundays

Family-owned since 2010, JAX is a Spring original. All buns are baked in Texas, the beef is never frozen, and the sauces are made locally. Order the Baja Burger — grilled jalapeños, signature sauce — and add the Garlic Parm Fries. The hand-spun Oreo shake is worth adding too. Typically Monday through Thursday 11 AM to 8:30 PM, Friday and Saturday to 9 PM. Check the official site before going.

OMG! Burger

8854 Spring Cypress Rd, Spring · open daily

OMG! Burger is one of the few halal smashburger concepts in the Spring corridor, using organic grass-fed Angus beef smashed to order. The OMG Stack — double patty, grilled onions, pickles, OMG sauce — is the move. Nashville Fries make a strong side. Typically Monday through Thursday 11 AM to 10 PM, Friday and Saturday to 10:30 PM, Sunday noon to 9:30 PM. Check txomgburger.com for hours.

FM 2920: the beef tallow fries stop

Bamburger

3624 FM 2920, Suite 6, Spring · open daily

Bamburger is a family-run smashburger spot with one detail worth driving for: the fries are cooked in beef tallow, a throwback technique abandoned by most restaurants in the 1990s. The Bamburger uses a Certified Angus Beef smash patty on a potato bun with caramelized onions and bamsauce; they also press a fresh bacon patty rather than sliced bacon. Typically open daily 11 AM to 9 PM. Check the official site before going.

Rayford Road and the Grand Parkway corridor

3B's Burgers and Beer

466 Rayford Rd, Suite 107, Spring · open daily

3B's motto is "Never Frozen. Always Legendary." and the sports-bar setup — walls of screens, cold beer, a full burger menu — makes it the go-to game-day stop in the Rayford/Grand Parkway stretch. The Bacon Cheeseburger and the Shroom N' Swiss are the signatures. Typically Monday through Thursday 11 AM to 9 PM, Friday and Saturday to 9:30 PM, Sunday noon to 8:30 PM. Check the official site for current hours.

Woodson's Local Tap + Kitchen

4127 Riley Fuzzel Rd, Suite 100, Spring · open daily until midnight

Woodson's is the late-night option on this list: open until midnight every day.
