Went for a company mixer and it's a cozy spot to mingle and drink. Drinks good and pricey(even happy hour), only nibbled on guac/queso/chips,and they make the drinks as fast as they can at the crowded small bar. The inside decor theme is Latin America with emphasis on Day of The Dead skulls, skeletons, and other artwork! Limited parking and surrounding neighborhood has restricted parking areas, so be careful and avoid a tow!

Under the Volcano now offers lunch! Their lunch special is an empanada + soup + salad. It was fresh, the perfect lunch-sized portion, and a reasonable $14 after tax. Everyone here is very kind/friendly and the patio was beautiful especially since fall had arrived.

Truly a Houston gem! I’ve been regularly coming to Under the Volcano for more than 3 years and it never disappoints. The place itself gives you such an authentic feel!! The tacos are excellent specially the Buenos Aires…whoever their cook is I hope they never leave. Beer is great and so are their mixed drinks. The staff is always wanting you to have a nice time. Such a fun place to unwind.

It's been a while since I last visited, but the drinks are still amazing and the bartender Bella was friendly, knowledgeable, and offered great suggestions! (try the Green on Red: it's a deliciously quirky libation) There's plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor, and since we were there on a weekday, there was plenty of parking. I'll be back!

In my opinion, Monday is the day to go especially for their steak night special. Note: you must order at the bar as there is no table service. Their garlic mashed potatoes are delicious and the steaks are cooked to perfection. We like them medium rare. Ribeyes are a bit fatty but what ribeye isn't? NY strips are thick and well seasoned. The salad really stands out. The dressing is on point and i typically have to order extra because it's that good. Their cocktails are consistently on point. We had the basil strawberry margarita which was amazing. Cant even taste the tequila which makes it that much more dangerous. (Lol) Beer selection rotates which is a pleasant surprise every time I go. It's a small quaint spot to enjoy an evening after work. 😉
