Diamond engagement ring and floating gems over Houston night skyline, jewelry stores houston

Here's the shortlist—organized by part of town—with what each place does best and whether they do custom work.

  • Best Texas sterling silver and charms: James Avery Artisan Jewelry, multiple Houston locations
  • Best affordable customizable jewelry: Kendra Scott, multiple Houston locations

How we chose

We focused on stores that are Houston-founded or Texas-founded, currently operating with a physical storefront, and worth the trip over a mall counter. Each was confirmed open on its official site as of October 2026. National chains—Zales, Kay, Jared—are not on this list. Stores that list only an online shop or hadn't updated their site with current hours were left out.

Galleria and Uptown

Zadok Jewelers

1801 Post Oak Blvd, Suite 100, Galleria/Uptown · Mon–Sat 10am–6pm

Zadok opened on Post Oak Boulevard in 1976, founded by jeweler Dror Zadok, whose family has worked in the jewelry trade for seven generations—first in Asia, later in Israel, and then Houston. It is now run by Dror's three sons—all GIA Graduate Gemologists—and carries more than 50 watch and jewelry brands, including Rolex, Cartier, and Omega. The in-house workroom handles custom design, which means a piece can be designed and built on-site rather than shipped out.

Best for: Rolex, fine jewelry, custom engagement rings with a GIA-credentialed team. Part of the Galleria and Uptown shopping corridor.

Tenenbaum Jewelers

4310 Westheimer Rd, River Oaks/Uptown · Mon–Sat 10am–6pm

Tenenbaum has been buying and selling estate and vintage jewelry in Houston since 1975. Inventory rotates constantly—signed pieces from Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels, David Webb, and Oscar Heyman come through the shop regularly—and the staff can appraise, restore, and repair. Price range is wide: roughly $1,200 to $20,000-plus depending on what's on the floor.

Best for: One-of-a-kind vintage pieces, estate gifts, anyone who wants the history that comes with a pre-owned stone.

Houston Jewelry & Fine Gifts

9521 Westheimer Rd, Briargrove (west of the Galleria) · Mon–Sat 11am–6pm

This is one of the oldest continuously operating jewelry stores in the country. It was founded in 1866—the same decade Houston had fewer than 10,000 residents—and is now in its fifth generation of family ownership. The store stocks certified loose diamonds, designer fine jewelry, and fine timepieces, and the team handles custom ring and band design, repairs, restoration, and sizing.

Insider tip: When the store opened in 1866, Houston was still recovering from the Civil War and the Ship Channel had not yet been dredged. Generational continuity that long creates real expertise in diamonds and repair work. Ask about the loose stone selection.

Best for: Engagement rings, loose diamonds, fine timepieces, and long-term jewelry investments.

The Heights

Rebecca Lankford Designs

703 Yale St, The Heights · Mon–Fri 10am–5:30pm, Sat 11am–5pm

Rebecca Lankford works entirely out of her Yale Street studio, which doubles as the retail space. The jewelry is hand-forged: organic forms, raw gemstones, mixed metals, leather, and faith-inspired motifs. Custom work starts from scratch, and she also redesigns jewelry you already own but never wear. Prices are not posted online and vary by piece.

Best for: Wearable art, custom heirloom redesigns. Pair with a walk up Yale Street, covered in our Heights shopping guide.

Kendra Scott

Heights Mercantile, 714 Yale St · Mon–Sat 10am–7pm, Sun 11am–6pm · also City Centre, Highland Village, and a second Heights concept at 642 Yale

Austin-born Kendra Scott has more Houston locations than any other city in Texas. The Heights Mercantile shop is the most convenient for visitors already in the neighborhood. The signature is the Color Bar, where you pick a setting and swap in whichever semi-precious stones you want, building a custom piece in about five minutes. Most pieces run under $150. A second Heights concept at 642 Yale, called Yellow Rose by Kendra Scott, skews more Western-luxe.

Best for: Affordable custom gifts, semi-precious stone jewelry, anyone who wants to leave with something they helped design.

Memorial

Thomas Markle Jewelers

Memorial — location relocating to new Houston address · The Woodlands showroom at 9595 Six Pines Dr, Suite 1170 · check thomasmarklejewelers.com for current status

Thomas Markle has been in Houston since the early 1980s and describes itself as the largest independent Rolex dealer in Texas—a claim no other independent Rolex dealer in Houston publicly disputes. The shop handles fine jewelry and custom engagement rings alongside the watch business, and the service model is first-name-basis: you work with the same person from first appointment to pickup.

Note: As of October 2026, the Memorial location is in the process of relocating; the Woodlands showroom at 9595 Six Pines Dr, Suite 1170 is open while the new Houston store is prepared. Check the official site before visiting.

Best for: Rolex buyers, custom engagement rings, anyone who wants a long-term relationship with a single jeweler.

Richmond corridor

Johnny Dang & Co.

6224 Richmond Ave, near Greenway Plaza · Mon–Sat 10am–7pm; closed Sunday

Johnny Dang is the Vietnamese-American jeweler who became Houston's most recognized custom-jewelry name by outfitting hip-hop's diamond era: grillz, iced-out chains, statement pendants, tennis bracelets. His celebrity client list includes Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, and dozens of NBA players. The Richmond Avenue shop handles custom commissions—appointment-based, with flexible budgets—and carries ready-to-buy pieces starting around $120 for silver cubic zirconia up to $7,000-plus for diamond work.

Insider tip: Dang grew up in Houston and built the business here over two decades. The shop is as much a Houston culture landmark as a jewelry store. If you want a custom piece, call ahead to set up a consultation and have a budget range ready.

Best for: Grillz, custom diamond chains, statement jewelry, and hip-hop gift-giving.

Texas-founded, multiple Houston locations

James Avery Artisan Jewelry

Post Oak: 5000 Westheimer Rd · Heights area: 2857 Katy Fwy · also Memorial City, Meyerland Plaza, Northwest Marketplace

James Avery started with four tools on a kitchen table in Kerrville, Texas in 1954 and built the most recognizably Texas jewelry brand in the state. The pieces lean toward charms, faith-based and nature-inspired designs, engravable bracelets and rings, and Texas-themed everything. Most pieces run $50–$150; gold and more complex pieces go higher. The Create Your Own program lets you build charm bracelets and necklaces from a large catalog of charms.

Best for: Texas gifts, charm bracelets, faith jewelry, and anyone who grew up knowing this brand and wants to add to their collection.

Save this: a Westheimer jewelry route

The Briargrove-to-Galleria stretch of Westheimer puts three of the above shops within about two miles of each other. On a Saturday:

  1. Start at Houston Jewelry & Fine Gifts at 9521 Westheimer (opens 11am).
  2. Drive east to Tenenbaum Jewelers at 4310 Westheimer for the vintage and estate collection.
  3. Continue to Zadok Jewelers at 1801 Post Oak for watches and the in-house custom design studio.

Add Rebecca Lankford Designs and Kendra Scott on Yale Street in the Heights if you want to include artisan and contemporary pieces in the same day.

Don't rush Tenenbaum—the estate inventory rotates and the best pieces move fast.
