1 Star – Kept Our Money & Left a Family With Kids Sleeping in the Lobby Terrible experience at Hyatt Place Houston-North. We booked through Expedia as part of a prepaid flight + hotel package. The room was fully paid and non-refundable. Our flight was delayed, and we arrived at 4:00 AM with my wife and children. The front desk employee told us our room was canceled because we did not arrive before midnight. This is unacceptable. The room was already paid for — they should not cancel or resell a prepaid, non-refundable booking. The employee was rude, unhelpful, and showed no empathy to a tired family with kids. They refused to refund the first night so we could book another hotel. So they kept our money and left us without a room. We had to sit and try to sleep in the lobby for hours. After speaking with Expedia, the hotel said maybe a room would be available at 9:00 AM. Then suddenly at 5:30 AM, the same employee said the system showed a vacant room. The room was clean and ready the whole time. We stayed about 3 hours in the lobby for no reason. No apology. No accountability. The area is also not very quiet. Overall, very disappointing experience. Thankfully, Expedia gave us a one-night credit, but the hotel refused any refund or apology. I would not recommend this location, especially for families.

The rooms layout was decent. The bed was comfortable. That's the only good. Reference pics for the nasty. Curtains were stained from who knows what. The bathroom smelled like a dirty crotch because there's no ventilation. TV only had lile 4 channels that actually worked so I hope you like shark tank. The fridge was like missing a leg so it wobbled all over the place. Was there from sunday night till Tuesday morning. Didn't get any service to the room at all. No new towels, no bed made, nothing. I mean for a quick stay its fine but I wouldn't go here again. Check in and out was easy.

I chose this hotel because of its convenient location, but I was genuinely surprised by what I walked into — in the best way. From the moment I stepped into the elevator and saw the holographic doors, I knew this stay would be something special. For the price, I wasn’t expecting such a refreshing change from what I’m used to. The room featured a comfortable sitting lounge, a small kitchen nook, and even a designated area to put on shoes and hang jackets. There was also a business space, perfect for anyone needing to finish up work or handle tasks during their stay. The walk-in shower was stocked with hotel-provided shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. The shower gel was especially invigorating — just a few pumps and it wakes you right up. The mattress was incredibly comfortable and gave me such a deep, restful sleep I almost forgot I wasn’t at home. I really appreciated the separation between the living area and the sleeping area. Being able to sit on the couch and watch TV instead of staying in bed made the space feel more like a mini-apartment. Breakfast was another highlight. I was skeptical at first, but once I walked downstairs and saw everything matched the pictures — and tasted just as good — I was impressed. They offered Eggo waffles, boiled eggs, egg patties, fruit, cereal, and several bread options. The rolling toaster was a fun touch, and there were plenty of toppings for both the breads and the eggs. Overall, everything from the holographic elevator doors to the room itself and the delicious breakfast made my stay amazing. I will definitely return without a doubt.

Had high hopes for my first Hyatt stay as a hotel content creator and marketer, and paid out of pocket for this stay during an overnight layover on a work trip. My room was directly across from the elevator making my stay noisy from guests coming and going at all hours, but the worst part was the constant fire alarms going from 2:30am until 7:30am. I kept track of the times the alarms rang which was a total of 8 times, causing me to only have a couple hours of sleep after a very long travel day and traveling the following day as well. After asking the lady at the front desk for a refund I was denied, then she agreed to issue a partial refund with my security deposit, which I never received. There was also minimal hot water for a shower at 7am, and the air conditioner was noisy enough that I had to turn it off completely in order to get the couple hours of broken sleep I did get. A horrible stay at a supposedly quality hotel.

This is a very good example of why I should read the reviews before I book a hotel. I’ve been a Hyatt Globalist (top tier of rewards program) for a few years and I’ve stayed at many Hyatt Place hotels. Some much better than others. This was absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had at a Hyatt property. I’m glad I only booked it for one night to be convenient near the IAH airport. Last time I stayed near this airport, I stayed at the Hyatt Regency, which was an older hotel, but it’s no longer in business. [I believe it’s been fully renovated and is now in Sonesta Hotel. I plan to stay there next time.] The negative experience appeared as soon as I pulled into the property driveway. Large metal gates with curled barbwire on top. This was the first indication that this property should be a prison. As I pulled into park and register, the parking spot I selected had an amazing amount of broken automobile glass on the ground. That was strike 2 before I even enter the hotel. I registered and we went into the hotel. The room, although clean and efficient had obviously severe signs of age and lots of wear and tear. My first thought was this should no longer be a Hyatt property. Clearly, the maintenance here was not important. I know running a hotel must be an extreme challenge, but this challenge has been lost. On a couple of minor points, there was a missing coat hook on the back of the bathroom door and the door look like it had been through some severe damage. Also, roughly half of the TV channels were unavailable. Either scrambled or no signal at all. I would never stay at the Hyatt Place North again and would not recommend it to anyone. (Some detailed photos included in my review.)
