Every time I photograph a wedding at The Houstonian, I’m reminded of why it’s such a staple in the city. There is a quiet, natural beauty to the grounds—especially the majestic oak tree—that creates such a peaceful atmosphere for a wedding day. Beyond the scenery, I really appreciate how well the staff looks after everyone. They are attentive and professional, which makes a huge difference in how relaxed the couple feels. When the day runs this smoothly, it allows for those genuine, happy moments that I love to capture. It’s a beautiful choice for anyone looking for an elegant, high-quality experience.

This review is for the hotel, which we stayed at in late December 2025 as part of a trip for a family birthday. The rooms are overpriced - and aren’t very nice or well stocked. We paid $400+ a night for two double beds I’d describe as passable. There are some things in the room that are just off - like pre-installed units on the shower wall equipped with bath foam, conditioner and bath foam again…?Packed our own shampoo but seemed like a weird choice to omit shampoo in the room. The in room Kuerig didn’t work. Staff isn’t very kid friendly and is on again/off again with rule enforcement. For instance, they will say no kids in the hot tub, then allow kids in the hot tub, just kind of depends on which life guard is around. The housekeeping runs behind and late - could be 4 or 5P if they can get to you - I’m sure they are understaffed. On site restaurant Tribute isn’t very good - we had a decent wedge salad, a dry chicken entree and some of the saddest kids chicken tenders - they were barely warm. This hotel advertises itself as Texas best resort based on some online polls but it pales in comparison to places like JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country or the Hyatt Regency resorts in Texas which have better food, better pools and a more family oriented staff. It’s not that this hotel is terrible but it can’t compete in it’s price class in Texas. We won’t be back.

Good: Great gym facilities. Three pools including an adult only pool. Food at the various restaurants is better than your average hotel. Bad: Rooms are not great - showers flood. Coffee is terrible. Even the Starbucks in the health club is worse than a normal Starbucks. Service is mixed. Some employees are sweet and helpful, others just seem to have a permanently bad mood. Overall it is probably a better athletic club than hotel.

Really nice hotel. We are here with family who was in from out of town. We tried several appetizers: Tuna, oysters, and squab and folks really enjoyed all of them. Several folks had the Wagyu Filet Mignon as their main and everyone said it was excellent. A couple of people also had the chicken and enjoyed it as well. Then there were several desserts passed around with a caramel flan, a chocolate mouse cake and a s'mores themed option as well. Again they were all outstanding. Service was excellent throughout. Staff was helpful and friendly for the entirety of our meal. Definitely a very solid meal. Everything was great.

We had a small event here and I was super impressed. The hotel rooms are very clean (and that says a lot because I am picky lol). The hotel staff was beyond nice and helpful. And the food was amazing. Our guests mentioned multiple times how good the food was. Thank you to the hotel staff, banquet staff, event planners, and flower company. Y’all were awesome!
