A mix of feelings about this 5-star hotel. Upon arrival, we were dazzled by the tasteful décor, with beautiful paintings that began the experience we were about to have—the Western Experience. The room impressed us with its spaciousness, the bathroom, and the kitchen/coffee area. When we arrived, we received a tray with fruit and a lovely welcome note. While we waited for the rest of the group, we went downstairs to have a drink and something to eat. The espresso martini, the fries, and the meatballs were incredible! The next day, however, the experience started to change. When we went down for breakfast, we had to cancel it because it took more than 30 minutes to arrive and we had to leave for some commitments. That morning the service felt very slow and of poor quality. On the last night, when we returned to the hotel at 11:00 p.m., after having left the room at 10:00 a.m., we found everything exactly as we had left it—our room had never been cleaned. The towels were still on the floor, the sink had hair in it the entire time, and the area around the sink had not been wiped. This is not what you expect from a 5-star hotel—or perhaps it should have fewer stars? Additionally, the amenities were never restocked during our stay. The shampoo and hand cream, for example, were never replaced.

My colleague goes to Hotel Granduca (HG) for meetings and lunches, and after my time there last week, I can see why! The hotel is beautiful, old world, elegant, and classy. The team at HG are friendly and attentive, but never intrusive. The WiFi is strong and the accommodations provide great options for meetings or quiet work. The real treat came when lunch was served. We were provided with a gourmet meal at the prices of a quality but reasonably priced restaurant. The food was delicious, and as silly as it sounds, they do this crumbled crouton thing on their Caesar salad that adds that extra unique flavor and mouth feel that has stayed with me since I ate there. I can see why my colleague spends so much time there, and I hope to spend more time in the future. I know it's silly, but the restrooms are beautiful, and they have hand towels to dry your hands after you wash them. You just can't go back to paper towels after that.

We always have a fantastic stay here! They recently completed a remodeling as of April (so I'm told). The lobby is very upscale and rich with a very high-end decor. The rooms are very spacious and well-appointed. The beds are some of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. All of the staff are very kind, polite, and helpful. They all make you feel very much at home. It is such a classy, intimate atmosphere. Even traveling with a toddler, they make you feel very welcomed. The restaurant serves excellent fare, we had the breakfast service this morning and our food was absolutely delicious. There are no shortage of options in Houston especially in the surrounding area, but it is hard to beat the quality and value you get staying here. It truly feels like a home away from home. The only critique I can even think of would probably relate to Internet. I got very slow download speeds on my laptop. For checking email and general browsing, I'm sure it's more than adequate. If you're looking for an elegant, upscale hotel in the heart of Houston that is in a fabulous location then look no further!

We had the afternoon tea /Tea de Alba. It was an overall “ok.” experience. I was a little disappointed in the ratio of filling in the sandwiches. The sandwich was 90% cream cheese filled, which made it a little “hard to swallow” for my taste. It was pretty much straight up cream cheese, couldn’t really taste any bread or any other flavors. And the tea was lukewarm. Not sure that I would repeat the experience for the $85.00 price tag. I’ve enjoyed high tea/afternoon tea at several other places that were a better experience. Atmosphere and decor were pretty though.

Hotel Granduca is my favorite place to stay in Houston, and I have just returned from another wonderful visit. Every detail of this hotel is so thoughtful, the decor is really beautiful. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, we had great service. Granduca has a special and unique vibe being an independent luxury hotel, and is the only Leading Hotels of the World property in Houston. Highly recommend!
