First off, I would like to commend the staff at this hotel for their friendly demeanor and helpfulness. I do not have any complaints of the onsite staff - they were great. That said, my stay was horrendous. When I first got to my room, I was met with an intense musty odor that made my eyes and throat itch within a matter of 15 minutes. I called down to the front desk to request a new room and the attendant was very kind, apologetic (although didn't sound surprised by my report), and helpful. He assigned me to a new room. When I first arrived in my new room, it seemed better - still musty, but not nearly as bad. I checked in on a Sunday night, and by Wednesday morning I was very ill (dizziness, brain fog, and allergy symptoms). Tuesday evening, I started looking around closer and the room was full of mold - it was growing heavily in the window, was on the curtain, in the shower, and on the bathroom ceiling. The hotel is clearly in the middle of renovations, but seems it is in dire need of full mold remediation. I was in town for a conference and didn't have the opportunity to move to another hotel, so ended up checking out a day early as I could no longer safely stay in the hotel. I spoke to other conference attendees that were also staying on the floor above me, and they were experiencing musty odors as well, so I feel as though this is likely a building-wide issue. The staff was apologetic, but I am very disappointed in management's lack of responsibility for the issue. They apologized for my "inconvenience" and refunded 2 of my 4 nights, which is appreciated, but this is not simply an inconvenience. This is a health hazard. I was lucky enough to have the means to leave early, but I fear for those who may not have that opportunity and potentially have other health issues that this could exacerbate. I also have concern for the hotel staff working in this on a daily basis. This hotel should NOT be open in these conditions, much less for over $200 per night. The ownership and management should be ashamed to be operating this location. Please avoid staying here, especially if you have any other health issues as mold exposure can make those issues much worse.

I can't believe I'm having to write a review about such a negative experience at an IHG hotel. I've been staying with IHG for a long time and this is literally the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Lots of different things. But what made me walk out at midnight was I was about to go to bed and there was a roach in the bed. I called front desk, he said I could move rooms but said he couldn't meet me at that room with the keys because he couldn't leave his little post. (I had to pack up all my stuff and I had just got out of the shower. I know plenty who have left the area just for a couple minutes). Well either way, I opened the door to the new room and there was another.. larger roach after I turned the lights on in the bathroom. DONE .. NOT ME. The phones didn't work the first night. The room phones or the actual phone to the hotel. My TV didn't work. Couldn't get signal at all. And I needed a plate from the breakfast area for my dinner, but since it was moved upstairs, she didn't know how to get into the meeting room and couldn't get me a plate. That is small... But still... INSANE! never stay here if you have a choice. RUN! Stay in your car rather than this place.

To start I will say the location is convenient to the Toyota Center and convention center. That’s where the positives end. The building is outdated and has an unpleasant smell. They clearly know this as there are machines around the building to help with the smell. As soon as I walked in to my room the smell was absolutely horrible. The room was not well kept by maintenance. The toilet seat was loose, toilet paper holder was hanging on by a thread and the tv is tiny and outdated. The pool is also not kept up with. This place needs a serious renovation from top to bottom.

⭐️ 1 STAR – A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE FROM CHECK-IN TO CHECK-OUT 😤🐜💳 I checked into Holiday Inn Express Downtown Houston Convention Center and what followed was one of the most chaotic, unprofessional hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Let’s talk rooms first. Room 242 The privacy lock DID NOT WORK. I was literally asked if I wanted to stay in the room anyway because “maintenance isn’t here tonight.” Excuse me??? Room 343 Couldn’t even get into the room because of a lock/padlock issue. Room 243 FULL BLOWN ANT INFESTATION. Not one or two ants. An entire ant circus 🐜🐜🐜. Completely uninhabitable. I have video proof and photos. Because of all this, I had to cut my stay short, cancel my plans, and drive HOURS back home unexpectedly. No offer to relocate me to another Holiday Inn. No effort to make it right. Nothing. Now the billing mess. I booked through Priceline. The room was paid with a third-party card. My personal Cash App card was ONLY for a $50 incidental deposit. After checkout, the hotel: • Tried to charge my card $104.60 ❌ • Then tried again for $154 ❌ Both declined by my bank • STILL hasn’t returned my $50 deposit • And then a staff member named Brandon had the audacity to threaten my refund over the phone Yes, the call was recorded. They kept trying to hit my card AFTER all of this, as if I owed them money for a stay I couldn’t even safely complete. That’s not a mistake. That’s reckless. This wasn’t just dirty. This was unsafe, unprofessional, and borderline predatory behavior. I’ve escalated this to corporate and attached photos and video because clearly that’s the only way to be taken seriously. Save yourself the stress. There are WAY too many hotels in Houston to deal with this mess.

We stayed the day after Christmas specifically to use the indoor pool with our daughter. I called ahead to confirm the pool and hot tub were available and heated. Unfortunately, the pool was burning hot — as hot or hotter than a hot tub, making it unsafe for our child to swim, while the hot tub was cold. Because of this, our daughter couldn’t swim and was very upset when we had to leave. I spoke with the front desk and requested a manager, but none was available. The staff member was polite, but they could not fix the issue or transfer our stay to another Holiday Inn. We were allowed to check out, but a refund could not be issued immediately. We had to leave and book another hotel. This was very disappointing, and I hope we receive our refund, as the main amenities we confirmed ahead of time were unusable.
