Athens Hotel Suites

This is a two star hotel in a convenient downtown Houston location. The hotel is very convenient to the convention center but the Hilton is way more convenient and way more expensive. The Holiday inn Express would had also been a better option but then again, it’s more expensive. The room was comfortable and it had recent updates but you’ll have to walk up stairs to your second floor room. The AC worked very well. There is a nice full kitchen with microwave, ironing board, hair dryer, coffee maker, some utensils. But no elevator at this budget friendly hotel. And there is no on site parking. But they do offer parking, for $25/day, at their remote lot about a block and a half away. A 5 min walk I guess. The lobby is on the first floor and is small and hot and the guy is behind thick glass. If I was traveling with my wife, I would look elsewhere. For a guy wanting to save some money, then this place would do that. But I wouldn’t recommend a single woman to stay here unless your budget is more important than some conveniences. A couple of times when I left the building, the door was propped open and no one was in the office watching the door. Any perp could’ve walked in and gone upstairs to where the rooms are. Somewhat of a safety concern for any woman traveling alone. What you won’t get at this budget friendly hotel is; no on-site parking, no elevator, no nice lobby, no HBO or premium channels (antenna only), no free breakfast, no pool or gym. Just a decently updated room in a dated building. I noticed some of the other reviewers mentioning a “friendly staff” or “a great staff” but there is no staff. Just one guy at the desk behind thick glass who has an accent and is somewhat hard to understand. I hope this helps.

We stayed for 3 nights for a convention at GR Brown. Location was great, staff is very accommodating. It's a small boutique type hotel with only a few rooms, reasonably priced ....not fancy but very practical and clean with full sized fridge, microwave, stove and oven. Super close to the Toyota Center for events. We loved our stay.

I absolutely lovedddddd my stay here. The staff were really lovely and pleasant my entire stay. It was right on in the perfect area and close to everything. Most importantly, my room was spectacular. Absolutely everything was great and I really appreciated the cooking utensils to help me make some extra meals for an extended stay. I would certainly be back again! Hate to leave. Thanks guys

Stayed here during the ufc event! Location was superior, 3 minute walk to Toyota Center and many great sports bars. John, and his team were great host! Will definitely come back

My stay at the Athens Hotel and Suites was absolutely wonderful! The gentlemen at the front desk were exceptionally accommodating and kind from the moment I walked in, and they provided great recommendations on local food and businesses. The room was very clean, had great heating/cooling, and had very nice amenities. The location is very convenient as it is just a few minutes walk from the convention center. I would highly recommend the Athens Hotel and Suites to anyone visiting Houston, you will be treated to service and pricing much better than nearby hotels!
