Date Night in Westchase: 10 Dinners, Drinks and Walks

Date Published

Date night Westchase illustration: couple on a lamp-lit trail beside a hibachi flame, candle and cocktails

For a date night in Westchase, book dinner at Rio Ranch beside the Hilton Houston Westchase on Westheimer Road, or at Pacha Nikkei, the Peruvian-Japanese restaurant in the Carillon center at 10001 Westheimer. For a meal with a show, Benihana at 9707 Westheimer cooks at the table, and Kasra Persian Grill next door has been serving kebabs in Westchase since 1999. Start with an early-evening walk around Camden Park and the Library Loop Trail, and finish with a nightcap at the Rio Saloon or the Republic Lounge, both typically open until 11 p.m.

Here's the line to remember: Westchase's two most theatrical date nights both trace back to old barns. Rio Ranch says the ceiling over its bar was salvaged from a pre-Civil War barn, and Benihana says its very first restaurant, opened in Manhattan in 1964, was built inside a 150-year-old Japanese barn.

What counts as Westchase in this guide?

This guide covers the Westchase business district in west Houston: Westheimer Road on the north (both sides of the street), Gessner Road on the east, the Westpark Tollway on the south and West Houston Center Boulevard on the west, with Beltway 8 running through the middle. The Westchase District itself is a management district that local landowners petitioned the Texas Legislature to create in 1995.

That line leaves out CityCentre, Memorial City and the Royal Oaks stretch of Westheimer; for dinners farther west, see our Energy Corridor date night guide. For the neighborhood itself, start with our Westchase area page.

How we chose

We picked places inside the boundary above that give you a reason to go on a date: a room with character, a dish worth sharing, a drink worth lingering over or a pleasant place to walk. Every restaurant and bar had to show its current address and hours on its own official website, checked in November 2026, and the parks and trails come from the Westchase District's official pages.

Hours change, so treat every time below as typical and check the official site before you go.

Where should you book a special-occasion dinner in Westchase?

Rio Ranch and Pacha Nikkei are our picks for a celebration in Westchase: one is a Texas lodge with an Italian menu, the other a chef-driven Peruvian-Japanese kitchen with a seven-course tasting menu.

Rio Ranch

9999 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77042 (at the Hilton Houston Westchase) · dinner typically daily 5-10 p.m.; bar daily 2-11 p.m.

Rio Ranch has been a West Houston landmark since January 1993 and now cooks Italian dishes with Texas ingredients. The bar, called the Rio Saloon, is the room to see: a 22-foot mesquite bar with rawhide barstools, a ceiling salvaged from a pre-Civil War barn, and a mural of one of the last great trail rides across Texas in the 1890s.

What to order: start with the beef carpaccio with lemon-truffle aioli or the braised wild boar meatball, then move to a steak or Gulf seafood. The Texas Arancini, stuffed with smoked brisket and jalapeño cheddar, is the restaurant's signature starter.

Insider tip: a guest review quoted on Rio Ranch's homepage mentions being seated by the fireplace. Ask about a table near it when you book, especially on a cool night.

Pacha Nikkei

10001 Westheimer Rd, Suite 5, Houston, TX 77042 · dinner typically Tue-Thu 5-9 p.m., Fri 5-11 p.m., Sat 5-10 p.m.; closed Monday

Pacha Nikkei serves Nikkei cooking, the cuisine that grew out of Japanese immigration to Peru. The name is a small lesson in itself. The restaurant explains that pacha means "world" in Quechua, and Nikkei is the Japanese term used in Peru for Japanese-Peruvian people.

What to order: go all in with the seven-course tasting menu, or build your own meal from the ceviches, maki and hot plates. The Asado de Tira skewers are American Wagyu short rib cooked sous vide for 72 hours, and the Causa Limeña layers chicken salad over aji amarillo-whipped potatoes. Drink chicha morada, Peru's purple-corn drink, if you're skipping alcohol.

Why go: it's the most distinctive dinner in Westchase. The restaurant has also run a Thursday wine-and-live-jazz night, so check its events page when you book.

Which Westchase restaurant is best for a fun, interactive date?

Benihana is the interactive pick: your chef cooks on a steel teppanyaki grill in front of you, with the knife work and tricks the chain is known for.

Benihana (Houston II - Westheimer)

9707 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77042 · typically Sun-Thu 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Fri-Sat 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; happy hour Mon-Fri 3-6 p.m.

Benihana's Westheimer restaurant has been a west Houston hibachi stop for decades. You'll share a grill table, so it works best for a playful date or a double date.

I didn't know that: Benihana founder Rocky Aoki opened the first restaurant at 61 West 56th Street in Manhattan in 1964, and the company says its interior was a 150-year-old Japanese barn his father found in the countryside.

Insider tip: for a birthday or anniversary that nobody will forget, Benihana sells Be The Chef packages. The guest chef gets one-on-one teppanyaki training from a Benihana chef, then cooks for their party. It's for adults 18 and up and must be arranged in advance with the restaurant's manager, not online.

Where can you share a long, relaxed dinner in Westchase?

Kasra Persian Grill and Thai Cottage are the sit-and-share picks: both are casual, both are inside the district, and both reward ordering several plates for the table.

Kasra Persian Grill

9741 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77042 · typically Mon-Sat 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Sun noon-10 p.m.

Chef and owner Morty Parsa opened Kasra in 1999, and Westchase is its original location. Kasra says he follows three generations of restaurateurs, and that his family's restaurant still stands in one of the oldest parts of Tehran.

What to order: split the garlic hummus, which the menu calls an H-town favorite since 1999, plus kashke bademjan, a warm roasted eggplant dip with whey, onions and mint, or mirza ghasemi, roasted eggplant and tomato topped with a fried egg. Then share a kabob combo. More citywide picks are in our best Persian restaurants in Houston guide.

Thai Cottage (Westheimer)

10001 Westheimer Rd, Suite 2124, Houston, TX 77042 · dinner typically Mon-Thu 5-9 p.m., Fri-Sat 5-9:30 p.m.; closed Sunday

Thai Cottage's Westheimer restaurant runs happy hour through dinner Monday to Saturday, which makes it an easy weeknight date.

What to order: the crispy red snapper stir-fried with green beans and kaffir lime leaves in Prik Khing curry paste. For dessert, look for the Thai dessert of crisp water chestnuts in ruby-red tapioca with young coconut, served in chilled coconut milk over crushed ice. Compare it with the city's best in our Thai food guide.

What's a good inexpensive date night in Westchase?

The Original Marini's Empanada House is the early, inexpensive date: empanadas, Argentinian wine and dulce de leche cookies, finished before 8 p.m.

The Original Marini's Empanada House

10001 Westheimer Rd, #2570, Houston, TX 77042 · typically Mon-Thu 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Fri-Sat 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; closed Sunday

Marini's has a real Houston comeback story. According to the family, Marcello and Pelusa Marini opened their first Marini's Empanada House around 1971 at 1517 Westheimer in Montrose. On Good Friday in 1985 it burned down and the family lost everything. Their son reopened in Katy in 2004, and their daughter opened this Westchase shop in 2007.

What to order: a combo of one savory and one dessert empanada each, with the Beef "Gaucho" or the red-wine Chuckwagon on the savory side. Add a glass of Argentinian wine or a yerba mate, and take home a few of Pelusa's alfajores filled with dulce de leche.

Where can you get a drink or dessert after dinner?

For a late cocktail, go to the Republic Lounge at the Houston Marriott Westchase or the Rio Saloon at Rio Ranch, both typically open until 11 p.m. For coffee and something sweet, la Madeleine in the Carillon center typically stays open until 9 p.m. every day.

Republic Grill and Republic Lounge

Houston Marriott Westchase, 2900 Briarpark Dr, Houston, TX 77042 · lounge typically daily 2-11 p.m.; Republic Grill daily 6:30 a.m.-11 p.m.

The Marriott's Republic Lounge pours hand-crafted cocktails, and the Southwestern Republic Grill next to it serves until 11 p.m., later than most of the district.

la Madeleine (Carillon)

10001 Westheimer Rd, Suite 2123, Houston, TX 77042 · typically open daily 7 a.m.-9 p.m.

This French bakery café is the low-key dessert stop: pick something from the pastry case, order a coffee and sit on the patio.

Where can you walk on a date in Westchase?

Camden Park on Wilcrest Drive is the best place for a date-night stroll in Westchase, and the district's trail network adds about five miles of paved paths.

Camden Park

2951 Wilcrest Dr, Houston, TX 77042 · free

Camden Park is a 3.4-acre, ULI award-winning park that opened in April 2025, with an activity lawn and a pavilion that hosts concerts and cultural events. Look for the rooftop terrace overlooking the park and the outdoor reading room.

Insider tip: the Robinson-Westchase Neighborhood Library is a one-minute walk away, and the Westchase District says it doubles as extra parking for the park.

The Library Loop and HCC Campus trails

Westchase trail network · free · trail map on the Westchase District website

The Westchase District says its trail system spans about five miles. The Library Loop Trail near the Robinson-Westchase Library has public art and shaded green space, and the HCC Campus Trail links Westheimer to Richmond Avenue. Keep an eye on the water habitat: the district says you can spot turtles and coastal birds along the trails. More ideas are in our guide to things to do in Westchase.

  3. On a Friday or Saturday, start earlier instead with an empanada and a glass of Argentinian wine at Marini's, which typically closes at 8 p.m.

  1. Arrive at Camden Park about an hour before sunset and walk the Library Loop Trail.
  2. Drive to Westheimer for dinner at Kasra or Benihana, a few doors apart.
