- Date Night in Upper Kirby: 9 Dinners, Drinks and a Walk in the Park
The best date night in Upper Kirby, Houston, is dinner on Kirby Drive or Richmond Avenue followed by a drink or a stroll a few blocks away. Our top picks are Kata Robata for omakase, Kiran's for Indian fine dining and Eunice for Cajun-Creole seafood, then a game of ping-pong in Levy Park, a cocktail at Santé or a late show at McGonigel's Mucky Duck. We confirmed all nine picks open on their own official websites.
Here's the line to send your date: the chef behind Kata Robata in Upper Kirby first came to Houston in 2000 as the private chef for the Japanese Consulate, according to the restaurant. Chef Manabu “Hori” Horiuchi spent years at another sushi bar before opening Kata Robata on Kirby Drive in 2009, and he holds a special certification to prepare fugu, the famous blowfish.
Where does Upper Kirby start and stop?
For this guide, Upper Kirby means the area west of South Shepherd Drive, east of Buffalo Speedway, north of Bissonnet Street and south of Westheimer Road. That is the commonly cited outline of the Upper Kirby District, and the same box we use in our Upper Kirby bar guide.
That box takes in Levy Park, the Kirby Drive corridor, Richmond Avenue between Shepherd and Buffalo Speedway, and Norfolk Street near the Southwest Freeway. A few well-known dinners sit just outside it: Tony's and Tiny Boxwoods are west of Buffalo Speedway near Greenway Plaza, and Nobie's on Colquitt Street is just east of Shepherd. For dinners over those lines, see our Montrose date night guide and our River Oaks date night guide. For the wider neighborhood, start with our Upper Kirby area guide.
How we chose
We kept only places inside that box that work for two people: a room or a setting with some atmosphere, food or drinks worth planning around, and an easy next stop. Every pick showed a current Upper Kirby address and current hours, menus or a show calendar on its own official website in November 2026. We left out places whose sites were down, had moved out of the neighborhood, or blocked us from confirming them.
Hours, menus and prices change. Treat every time and price below as typical and check the official site before you book.

Where can you take a walk on an Upper Kirby date?
Levy Park is the answer: a free, 6-acre park at 3801 Eastside Street, in the middle of Upper Kirby, with lawn games, a Reading Room and a walk-up taco kiosk.
6. Levy Park
3801 Eastside St · free public park · lawn games typically 9 am to 7 pm

The foundation, a private nonprofit, still runs the City of Houston park day to day.
What to do: the Activity Area has ping-pong tables, a foosball table and a putting green, plus a Reading Room, all typically open 9 am to 7 pm daily, weather permitting. Arrive before dinner and play a best-of-three for who picks the restaurant.
Insider tip: on the second Friday of each month, the park hosts Sunset Bingo, with prizes and a DJ. Boards typically go on sale at 5 pm and games start at 6 pm; it costs $10 for eight games, cash only, and the money helps run the park.
