- Date Night in the Galleria and Uptown: 13 Dinners, Drinks and Walks
Uptown's most romantic spot is free. Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park sends about 11,000 gallons of water a minute down a 64-foot semicircular wall, at the end of a lawn lined with 186 live oaks that, according to the Uptown Houston District, were grown in Jacksonville, Florida. Stand in the mist after dinner and the Galleria's traffic disappears.
That's the secret to a good date night in the Galleria and Uptown: don't stop at the steakhouse. Pair one of these eight dinners with a five-star hotel bar, a two-screen rooftop cinema, a year-round ice rink or that walk. Below are 13 picks and three routes to save.
Where the Galleria and Uptown start and stop
For this guide, Uptown means the business district around The Galleria and Post Oak Boulevard: Loop 610 on the east, Chimney Rock Road on the west, Woodway Drive and the edge of Memorial Park on the north, and Richmond Avenue on the south. That keeps it strictly west of the Loop, so River Oaks District, Highland Village and Upper Kirby are out. For the wider neighborhood, see our Galleria/Uptown area guide.
How we chose
We picked places inside our Uptown boundary that work for two people on a night out: a room with atmosphere, food worth dressing up for, and something nearby to do after. Every restaurant, bar and activity here was checked on its own official website in October 2026, including its address and current hours.
Hours, menus and prices change. Treat every time and price below as "typically" and check the official site before you book.
Dinner: the main event
1. Pappas Bros. Steakhouse (Galleria)
5839 Westheimer Rd · steakhouse · closed Sundays
The Westheimer original has been open since 1995, and it is the place to book when the occasion is big. The restaurant lists more than 6,000 wine selections and says its list has won Wine Spectator's Grand Award every year since 2010. It has also been a MICHELIN Guide Recommended restaurant since the guide arrived in Texas in 2024.
Order: a prime steak to share and let the sommelier pick the bottle. Dinner is typically Monday to Thursday 5 to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 5 to 10 p.m.
Best for: anniversaries and wine people. More beef in our best steakhouses in Houston guide.
2. Mastro's Steakhouse
1650 West Loop South, next to The Post Oak Hotel · steak and seafood · dinner daily
Mastro's leans into theatre. Steaks are served sizzling on plates the restaurant says are heated to 450 degrees, and the seafood tower is about 2 feet tall, served over a cloud of dry ice. The lounge has live entertainment seven nights a week, and the restaurant says this is the only Mastro's Steakhouse in Texas.
Know before you go: the dress code is strict. No hats, athletic wear, jerseys, hoodies or sleeveless shirts.
3. Musaafer
The Galleria, 5115 Westheimer Rd, Suite 3500 · Indian fine dining · open daily
Musaafer means "a traveler," and the menu is built from a 100-day journey its chefs made across 29 states of India, collecting regional recipes along the way. The dishes come with backstories: the butter chicken is served three ways, and the restaurant says its Onion Xuixo, a pastry filled like a Rajasthani pyaz kachori, took 20 failed tries to get right.
Order: the tasting menu if you want the full journey. Dinner typically starts at 5 p.m. on weekdays and at noon on Friday through Sunday. More in our best Indian restaurants in Houston guide.
4. Nobu Houston
Galleria VI, 5115 Westheimer Rd · Japanese · dinner nightly
Nobu is inside The Galleria, so it pairs neatly with a skate or a stroll. First time? The kitchen's own advice is to share: two or three cold dishes, then two or three hot ones, then sushi and dessert. Start with the yellowtail jalapeño and don't skip the black cod miso.
Insider tip: on Thursday and Friday nights, Nobu runs "At the Sushi Bar," a 17-course omakase with a single 7 p.m. seating for no more than four guests. Tanoshi Hours run 5 to 8 p.m. daily in the bar and lounge.
5. Uchiko
1801 Post Oak Blvd, Suite 110 · modern Japanese · dinner daily
Uchiko is the offspring of chef Tyson Cole's Uchi, and the restaurant says it adds smoke and char to Uchi's fresh, clean flavors.
Order: the gyutoro nigiri (72-hour short rib), the hearth-roasted lobster, and the s'mores for dessert. Happy hour runs 4 to 6 p.m. daily at the cocktail bar and sushi bar, which is the easy way to start a night here. Dinner typically runs until 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. More in our best sushi in Houston guide.
Best for: dinner before a movie on the roof at Rooftop Cinema Club, a short walk down the boulevard.
6. il Bracco
1705-A Post Oak Blvd · Italian · open daily for lunch and dinner
il Bracco makes its pastas and breads in-house and butchers its fish and proteins daily. Expect a full bar and outdoor seating.
Order: the housemade focaccia with whipped ricotta and roasted garlic, and the crispy artichokes if they have them (the menu says availability is limited). Hours typically run 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Business casual is suggested, and the restaurant asks men to wear shirts with sleeves.
7. Étoile Cuisine et Bar
1101-11 Uptown Park Blvd · French · lunch and dinner daily
Étoile is the classic French bistro tucked into Uptown Park, at the north end of the boulevard. The menu reads like a wish list for a date: escargots de Bourgogne, French onion soup, duck leg confit and a foie gras terrine you can pair with an ounce of Château d'Yquem Sauternes.
Know before you go: the kitchen typically closes between lunch and dinner, from 3 to 5 p.m. Dinner runs until 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and the restaurant recommends reservations.
8. Bloom & Bee
The Post Oak Hotel, 1600 West Loop South · American · dinner nightly
Bloom & Bee sits off the main lobby of The Post Oak Hotel, a 38-story tower that the hotel says is Texas' only Forbes Five-Star hotel. Eat here and you're steps from two of Uptown's best nightcaps. Dinner typically runs until 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and there's brunch on weekends. The dress code is business casual.
Best for: a dressed-up night where you park once.
After dinner: a drink, a movie, a skate, a walk
9. H Bar
The Post Oak Hotel, main lobby · cocktail lounge · open late
H Bar is all dark opulence: crimson velvet, low vintage lighting and black-and-white photography. It's typically open until midnight on Sunday and Monday and until 1 a.m. Tuesday to Saturday, which makes it the latest drink on this list.
The "I didn't know that" moment: the menu lists a $1,600 "Black Gold" burger, made with A5 wagyu, seared foie gras and black truffles on caviar-infused brioche, with 24K gold fries and a bottle of 2006 Dom Pérignon. You don't have to order it. Just know it's there.
Know before you go: H Bar enforces a strict dress code. More late-night ideas in our best cocktail bars in Houston guide.
10. Stella's Wine Bar
The Post Oak Hotel, Grand Ballroom lobby · wine bar · open from 4 p.m. daily
Stella's pours close to 60 wines by the glass from more than 30 wine regions, with flights if you can't decide. It's typically open until 10 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and until midnight Thursday to Saturday, and the dress code is casual.
Best for: sharing a flight and talking until they turn the lights up.
11. Rooftop Cinema Club Uptown
BLVD Place, 1700 Post Oak Blvd, 5th level · outdoor cinema · year-round
When it added a second screen, the Uptown Houston District billed it as the world's first two-screen rooftop cinema. Each ticket comes with wireless headphones tuned to your film, so there's no sound bleed from the screen next door. Doors open up to an hour before showtime, with a bar, popcorn and lawn games while the sun goes down behind the Williams Tower.
Insider tip: seating is first come, first served by ticket type, so book a Loveseat for two and get there early. Self-parking in the BLVD Place garage is complimentary, and it's a short walk from Uchiko and il Bracco. Bring a layer for the late shows.
Fun fact: movies under the stars on Post Oak aren't new. The district's history timeline includes a Post Oak Road drive-in screen tower in 1956.
12. Ice at the Galleria
Inside The Galleria, 5115 Westheimer Rd · year-round indoor ice rink
Skating under the Galleria's glass dome isn't just a holiday thing: the rink is open all year. Admission and skate rental cover the whole public session, but tickets are good for one entry only, so finish your dinner first. Session times change often, so check the rink's official site the day you go. More rinks in our ice skating in Houston guide.
Best for: a playful date, or a first date that needs an icebreaker. Literally.
13. Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park
2800 Post Oak Blvd, just south of Williams Tower · free
End here. The 2.77-acre park was designed by John Burgee Architects with Philip Johnson, and the 64-foot wall recycles some 46,500 gallons of water through its fountain system. Entry is free, and the district suggests parking in the Williams Tower visitor garage or The Galleria's Red garage.
Plan around this: the park closes in the evening (the district's pages list closing times between 8 and 9 p.m.), so make it a pre-dinner walk on darker evenings. The water is sometimes shut off for maintenance, so check the Waterwall Park page first. Alcohol and glass aren't allowed.
The proposal tip nobody tells you: under the park's rules, engagement proposals require a permit from the Hines property management office. Planning to pop the question at the Waterwall? Apply ahead.
