Best Coffee Shops in Pearland: Roasters, Work Cafes and Drive-Thrus

Date Published

Coffee shops Pearland illustration: steaming latte, coffee beans, cat and train tracks under night sky

Pearland's best coffee is hiding in plain sight along Broadway. One roaster pours espresso in a cafe parked right beside the railroad tracks. A bookstore runs its own book clubs between lattes. And one shop lets you sip a mocha while adoptable cats wander the room.

This guide covers the coffee shops in Pearland worth a detour: independent roasters, places you can actually work for a few hours, and drive-throughs for the school-run crowd. We checked every pick against its official website, and hours change, so confirm before you go.

The quick list

  • For a local roaster's cup by the tracks: Pearland Coffee Roasters, Old Townsite.
  • For coffee without leaving the car: Pearland Coffee Roasters Pearwood, First Cup or PJ's Coffee.
  • For a long work session: First Cup, which stays open late most nights and rents private offices.
  • For specialty coffee near SH 288: Luce Avenue Coffee Roasters.
  • For a book and a latte: LIT Java Coffee and Books.
  • For Yemeni coffee: Haraz Coffee House.
  • For dessert-in-a-cup drinks: Waygood.
  • For the most delightful hour in town: the Lone Star PAWZ CATfé.

How we chose

We kept this strictly to Pearland. For this guide, that means a shop with a Pearland street address in the 77581 or 77584 ZIP codes, from the Old Townsite area west along Broadway toward SH 288. We left out neighboring Friendswood, Manvel and the Clear Lake side of Houston, even where a chain or roaster also has a shop there.

Each pick had to show a current Pearland address on its own website, plus a clear reason to choose it over the nearest chain: it roasts its own beans, it's good for working, it has a drive-through, or it's simply a great way to spend an hour. Independents come first. We included one chain, PJ's Coffee, because it fills a real gap: an early-opening drive-through on the west side.

Hours change often. We give them as "typically" from each shop's site, and you should check before you go.

Independent roasters

1. Pearland Coffee Roasters, Old Townsite

Old Townsite, 4106 Broadway St · roaster and cafe · indoor and outdoor seating

This is Pearland's hometown roaster, and the Old Townsite cafe is where it started. The roaster describes it as its original location, "parked right beside the railroad tracks," and the vibe is built for lingering, with seating inside and out.

What to order: an espresso drink made with Black Star, the roaster's first original blend. It's a dark but approachable coffee that the roaster says shows baker's chocolate and nutty flavors in a latte. If you like brighter coffee, ask for Palo Alto, a blend built around cherry and floral notes. Take home a bag of the rotating Roaster's Pick.

Why it's here: it's a real local roaster, not a reseller, and its Black Star blend is the house coffee at some of its wholesale partners. Typical hours run from early morning (6 a.m. weekdays, 7 a.m. weekends) to 7 p.m. daily, per the official site.

2. Pearland Coffee Roasters, Pearwood

1315 Broadway St · drive-through · indoor and outdoor seating

Same beans, different mood. The Pearwood cafe has a drive-through and what the roaster calls a "modern, sunlit indoor space." This is the pick when you want local coffee on a weekday morning without parking. It typically keeps the same hours as Old Townsite.

Insider tip: the roaster's website has an Order Ahead option, so you can skip the line on busy mornings.

3. Luce Avenue Coffee Roasters

West Pearland, 11625 Broadway St, Suite 125 · specialty coffee bar

Luce is a Houston specialty roaster with a Pearland shop on the west end of Broadway. The company says its mission is to "foster the specialty coffee culture" in its community, and it backs that up with monthly coffee classes and professional SCA courses (see its official site for where and when they run).

What to order: a straightforward espresso or pour-over, then pick up a bag of beans to brew at home. The shop also sells brewing equipment.

Why it's here: it's our pick for specialty coffee on the SH 288 side of town, and it keeps long hours, typically 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Work-friendly cafes

4. First Cup Coffee Co.

East Broadway, 2645 E Broadway St · cafe, drive-through, private offices · closed Sundays

First Cup is the work-from-a-cafe pick. It's a Texas roaster whose Pearland shop has a drive-through, a spacious dining room and something most cafes don't: private offices and a conference room you can reserve. It also stays open late, typically 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It's closed on Sundays.

I didn't know that: First Cup names its blends after famous "firsts." The Buzz Armstrong, named for the first men on the moon, is a whiskey-aged Guatemalan; The Carver honors the crop-rotation pioneer; The Lexington, the espresso roast, is named for the first shot of the Revolutionary War. Ask which one is brewing.

Why it's here: late hours plus bookable rooms make this the easiest place in Pearland to hold a meeting or study past dark. Check the Pearland location page to reserve a room.

5. LIT Java Coffee and Books

Central Pearland, 5018 Broadway St · coffee shop and bookstore

LIT Java is a coffee shop and bookstore in one, with a mission of using coffee and books to connect the community to "'LIT'erary experiences." It runs book clubs and author events, sells new releases and audiobooks, and makes a point of featuring local and indie authors.

What to order: the menu leans sweet and creative. Try the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso, the Strawberry Cold Foam Matcha Latte, or The LIT Bomb, a house hot tea blend with raspberry, hibiscus, lavender, mint and honey. Seasonal menus rotate.

Good to know: this is a daytime spot that typically closes by late afternoon, and hours vary by day. Check the official site for current hours and the book club calendar before you go.

6. Haraz Coffee House

West Pearland, 11401 Broadway St, Suite 101 · Yemeni coffee house

Haraz brings Yemeni coffee culture to the west end of Broadway. The brand opened its first shop in Dearborn, Michigan, in 2021 and now has dozens of locations, including this one in Pearland. The room is made for sitting and talking.

What to order: skip your usual order and ask the barista for their favorite Yemeni coffee. That's the whole point of coming here.

Why it's here: it's our pick for Yemeni coffee in Pearland, and it works as well for a long catch-up with friends as for a laptop session. See the brand's Texas locations page for directions.

Drive-throughs and quick stops

7. Waygood

2715 Old Max Ct · coffee shop with order-ahead and delivery

Waygood is a Houston-area coffee company with a shop in Pearland. Its pitch is flavor-forward coffee with house-made syrups and sauces, plus ceremonial-grade matcha.

What to order: the Seaside Shakerato, a house-made salted vanilla shaken espresso with an extra shot, or the Brown Butter Latte. Non-coffee drinkers can go for the Sea Salt Banana Matcha. Pair it with a Jalapeño Turkey Croissant.

Why it's here: if you like your coffee sweet and inventive, this is the most fun menu in town. Order ahead in the Waygood app for loyalty points. Locations and hours are on the store locator.

8. PJ's Coffee

West Pearland, 12640 Broadway St · drive-through, Wi-Fi, beignets

PJ's is a chain, but it earns a spot for practical reasons: it has a drive-through and Wi-Fi, and it opens early, typically 5:30 a.m. on weekdays, 6:30 a.m. on Saturday and 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.

I didn't know that: PJ's iced coffee is brewed daily using a cold-drip process that the company says its founder pioneered more than 40 years ago. And yes, the menu includes beignets.

Why it's here: it's the early-bird answer on the 288 side. Check the Pearland location page for current hours.

The surprisingly delightful one

9. Lone Star PAWZ CATfé

8209 W Broadway St · cat cafe run by a nonprofit rescue · open Tuesday to Saturday

Here's the coffee shop to send your friends to. The CATfé is run by Lone Star PAWZ, a Pearland nonprofit animal rescue. You order a signature latte or a packaged snack from the Bodega menu, then spend time with cats that roam free around the room. Most of them are adoptable, with a few permanent residents.

Good to know: reservations aren't required but are highly recommended, especially on weekends, when slots run out. The cat lounge is for ages 6 and up, and children under 12 must stay with an adult. Don't bring your own pets. The CATfé also hosts events like cat yoga and adoption days.

Hours: typically noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; closed Sunday and Monday. Book on the official CATfé page.

Why it's here: your latte money supports a rescue, and you might leave with a new family member.

Bonus: the pastry pairing

Sweet Bee Bakehouse (2540 E Broadway St, Suite A) started as a home bakery in east Pearland and now has a storefront specializing in croissants, cookies and other sweets. It's a short drive from First Cup on East Broadway, so grab pastries there and coffee at First Cup. Note the short schedule: the storefront is typically open only Thursday to Saturday. Check the official site before you go.

Save this: a Pearland coffee crawl

Make a Saturday of it, east to west along Broadway:

  1. Sweet Bee Bakehouse for croissants when it opens.
  2. First Cup, a short drive away on East Broadway, for a cup of The Buzz Armstrong.
  3. Pearland Coffee Roasters, Old Townsite to buy a bag of Black Star by the tracks.
  4. LIT Java to browse the shelves and try The LIT Bomb (it typically closes by late afternoon, so go early).
  5. Lone Star PAWZ CATfé after noon for your reserved cat time.
  6. Luce or Haraz on the west end to finish with a final coffee.

Checklist before you go:

  • Book the CATfé on weekends.
  • First Cup is closed Sundays; the CATfé is closed Sundays and Mondays.
  • Sweet Bee is typically open Thursday to Saturday only.
  • Bring a tote for coffee beans and books.
