Best Coffee Shops in Clear Lake: Local Cafes and Drive-Thrus

Date Published

Coffee shops Clear Lake illustration: steaming coffee cup, rocket launch and sailboat on the lake at night

Clear Lake runs on coffee the way a launch countdown runs on checklists. Engineers grab a cup on the way to NASA Parkway, sailors fuel up before heading to the marinas, and parents work the El Dorado Boulevard drive-throughs before school drop-off. The good news: you can drink Vietnamese drip coffee, a wood-fired latte and a layered doughnut without leaving one stretch of NASA Parkway.

This guide is the shortlist we'd hand a friend who just moved to the Bay Area: one independent shop with local art on the walls, a Saigon-style coffee house, a NASA Parkway pair worth turning into a morning, and the drive-throughs that open before sunrise. Every pick was checked as operating on its own official website in October 2026.

The quick list

  • For an independent, family-run cafe: Art of Coffee on El Dorado Boulevard.
  • For something you can't get at a chain: Ca Phe Phin in Nassau Bay, for Vietnamese iced coffee made with a traditional drip filter.
  • For a latte sweetened exactly how you like it: Summer Moon in Nassau Bay.
  • For coffee with a seriously good doughnut: Parlor Doughnuts, also on NASA Parkway in Nassau Bay.
  • For coffee before 5:30 a.m.: Black Rock Coffee Bar or Dutch Bros in Webster.
  • For a late-night drive-through: 7 Brew on El Dorado Boulevard or Dutch Bros on the Gulf Freeway.
  • For coffee and kolaches to go: Kolache Factory on Bay Area Boulevard.

How we chose

Where Clear Lake starts and stops. For this guide, Clear Lake means the Clear Lake area of the City of Houston (the old Clear Lake City, around Bay Area and El Dorado boulevards) plus the small cities that ring the lake's north and west shores and share its identity: Webster, Nassau Bay, El Lago, Taylor Lake Village and Seabrook. We left out Kemah, League City, Clear Lake Shores and Friendswood, including shops at Baybrook Mall, even where they're only minutes away. Kemah has its own coffee scene; start with our Kemah Boardwalk guide.

What earns a spot. Each pick had to show a current Clear Lake-area address on its own official website, plus a clear reason to choose it: it's independent, it serves something distinctive, it's a good place to linger, or it solves a real problem, like coffee at 5 a.m. Independents come first. We included national and regional drive-through brands because Clear Lake's early commuter crowd genuinely relies on them, and we say so plainly.

What we couldn't confirm. We found a few promising independents that only post on social media, which we couldn't check. Rather than guess, we left them out. Hours change often, so treat every time below as typical and check the shop's own site before you go.

Independent cafes

Art of Coffee

Clear Lake, 1849 El Dorado Blvd · family-owned cafe and bakery

Art of Coffee describes itself as a family owned and operated coffee shop with sweet treats, local art and good vibes, and that's exactly the appeal. The walls showcase work by local artists, and the shop hosts family-oriented community events, so it feels more like a neighborhood living room than a pit stop. It also has sister shops in Kemah and La Marque, but the El Dorado Boulevard cafe is the one inside our Clear Lake boundary.

What to order: a latte and whatever's in the pastry case. The menu changes, so ask what's fresh.

Best for: a slow weekend coffee, meeting a friend, or browsing local art. Pair it with our things to do in Clear Lake guide.

Ca Phe Phin

NASA Parkway, 1354 E NASA Pkwy · Vietnamese coffee house · closed Sundays

This is the pick that makes visitors say "I didn't know that was here." Ca phe means coffee and phin is the small metal drip filter used across Vietnam, and Ca Phe Phin has been brewing that way since 2010. The family-run shop serves its coffee the way a street-side stall in Vietnam would: ca phe den da (iced black coffee) or ca phe sua da (iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk), plus banh mi.

Insider tip: drip coffee takes a few minutes by design. Order, sit down and let it drip.

When to go: typically 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays; it's closed on Sundays.

Best for: a strong iced coffee and a sandwich. It's also a natural stop before or after Space Center Houston.

The NASA Parkway pair

Summer Moon Coffee

Nassau Bay, E NASA Pkwy · wood-fired coffee bar

Summer Moon roasts its beans over a wood fire, and its signature drink is the Summer Moon Latte, made with its trademarked Moon Milk. Here's the fun part: you can dial in the sweetness by name. A Half Moon is half-sweet, a Quarter Moon is a quarter, and a Whisper Moon is one-eighth. Summer Moon says the latte and Moon Milk are available only in its own coffee shops.

The brand grew out of Austin and has since spread across Texas, largely through franchised shops. The Nassau Bay shop is listed in Summer Moon's official location directory.

What to order: a Whisper Moon if you like your coffee barely sweet, or a full Summer Moon if you don't.

Best for: a morning treat before a day on the water.

Parlor Doughnuts

Nassau Bay, 1850 E NASA Pkwy · craft doughnut and coffee shop · open daily

Parlor calls itself a craft doughnut and coffee shop, and its Famous Layered Doughnuts are the draw, in sweet flavors like maple bacon and campfire, plus savory ones such as Margherita and OG Pepperoni. There are vegan, gluten-friendly and keto options, and there are even doughnuts for your dog. The coffee menu runs from hot and iced favorites like mocha to blended drinks.

When to go: typically 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Doughnuts are made in small batches all day.

Best for: a coffee-and-doughnut run that pleases everyone, including the dog. Our best donuts and kolaches in Houston guide has more where this came from.

Drive-throughs and early starts

Black Rock Coffee Bar

Webster, 702 W Bay Area Blvd · drive-through, online ordering and in-store

Black Rock is the early bird's answer: the Bay Area shop typically opens at 5 a.m. every day and stays open into the evening. You can use the drive-through, order online or walk in. Beyond coffee, the menu includes its Fuel energy drinks, protein drinks and breakfast items like burritos, served all day.

Best for: a pre-dawn commute or a late study break.

Dutch Bros Coffee

Webster, 20720 Gulf Fwy · drive-through and pickup window

Dutch Bros sits right on the Gulf Freeway in Webster, with a drive-through and a pickup window. It typically opens at 5 a.m. daily and stays open until 10 p.m., or 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It's built for speed, which makes it an easy stop on an I-45 commute.

Best for: coffee on the way out of town.

7 Brew

Webster, 156 El Dorado Blvd · drive-through stand · open late

7 Brew is a drive-through stand with late hours: typically 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The menu leans sweet and playful, with drinks like the Blondie with whipped cream and caramel drizzle, energy drinks and smoothies.

Best for: an after-dinner treat or a late homework run.

Kolache Factory

Webster, 528 Bay Area Blvd, Suite 200 · kolaches and coffee to go · mornings and lunch

Kolache Factory isn't a coffee shop first, but it earns its spot. The chain was founded in Houston in 1982 and is still headquartered in Katy, so this is a hometown breakfast. Grab a kolache and a coffee, or order a Coffee-To-Go carrier for the office. Plan on mornings and lunch only; it closes in the early afternoon.

Best for: feeding a meeting, or a road-trip breakfast before Galveston.

Save this: a NASA Parkway coffee morning

You can do this whole route in one morning without getting back on the freeway.

  1. Start at Ca Phe Phin (1354 E NASA Pkwy) once it opens at 9:30 a.m. on a weekday or Saturday, and let a ca phe sua da drip.
  2. Head down NASA Parkway to Parlor Doughnuts (1850 E NASA Pkwy) and take home a box of layered doughnuts.
  3. Stop at Summer Moon, also on East NASA Parkway, and order a Whisper Moon for the road.
  4. Spend the rest of the day at Space Center Houston, also on NASA Parkway, or head to the lake. Lunch ideas are in our best restaurants in Clear Lake guide.
