- Best Breakfast in Meyerland: 8 Bagel, Kosher and Taco Spots
The best breakfast in Meyerland starts at New York Deli & Coffee Shop on Hillcroft Street, a bagel bakery and deli that has fed southwest Houston since 1975. For a kosher Israeli breakfast, go to Saba's Restaurant on Fondren Road. For breakfast tacos, book weekend brunch at Escalante's in Meyerland Plaza, and for a full sit-down pancake breakfast, First Watch on Beechnut Street is open every day from 7 a.m.
Here's what makes breakfast in Meyerland different from anywhere else in Houston: the calendar matters. Two of the best kosher breakfast spots close early on Friday and post no Saturday hours (Saturday is Shabbat), while the neighborhood's chicken-biscuit drive-thru closes on Sunday. Pick the wrong morning and you'll be staring at a locked door. The route at the end of this guide solves that.
What counts as Meyerland for this guide?
For this guide, Meyerland is the southwest Houston neighborhood from Loop 610 west to Fondren Road, and from Beechnut Street (both sides of the street) south to West Bellfort Avenue, mostly in ZIP code 77096. That's the same boundary we use in our Meyerland pizza guide.
The blocks between Hillcroft Avenue and Fondren Road are technically the Braeburn area, but we include them because locals treat the South Braeswood and Fondren corridor as Meyerland's kosher dining strip. We left out the separate City of Bellaire to the north, anything east of Loop 610, and the cluster of taquerias and kolache shops on South Post Oak Road just south of West Bellfort. They're close, but they're not Meyerland.

How we chose
We looked for places inside our Meyerland boundary that serve a real breakfast, not just coffee, and confirmed each one's address, hours or menu on its own official website or official location page in November 2026. We sorted for range: a Jewish deli, two kosher cafes, a Tex-Mex brunch, a breakfast chain built for long weekend tables, a French bakery, a bakery-cafe on the Loop and a 6 a.m. drive-thru.
Be honest with yourself about one gap: Meyerland itself is thin on standalone taquerias and kolache shops with official websites. We couldn't confirm one inside the boundary, so we didn't pad the list. If kolaches are the mission, see the note near the end. Hours change, and the kosher spots follow the Shabbat calendar, so treat every time below as "typically" and check before you drive.
Diners and delis
New York Deli & Coffee Shop
Meyerland, 9724 Hillcroft St, Houston, TX 77096 · typically 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily
New York Deli & Coffee Shop on Hillcroft Street is the breakfast institution of Meyerland. According to the family's own history, founder Eugene "Chick" Kornhaber became a bagel baker in New York after World War II, opened a bagel shop in Philadelphia in 1967, and then opened New York Bagels in Houston in 1975. The deli side came in 1981. The About page says the founding family still runs it, now with a newer partner.
What to order: bagels from the family's own bagel bakery, which the About page says is HKA-certified, with a schmear and a coffee, or a plated egg breakfast from the deli side.
The backstory: the bagel recipe traces back to a New York bakery after World War II, by way of a Philadelphia shop called Brooklyn Bagels, before it landed on Hillcroft.
Why it's here: it's open every day of the week, including Saturday, which makes it the anchor for any Meyerland breakfast plan. For more of the neighborhood's Jewish food, see our Jewish deli guide and our best bagels in Houston list.
First Watch Meyerland
North side of Beechnut St, 4938 Beechnut, Houston, TX 77096 · typically 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily
First Watch Meyerland sits on Beechnut Street directly across from Meyerland Plaza. It's a daytime-only breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant, and the official location page lets you join the waitlist online before you leave the house, which matters on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
What to order: the Tri-fecta, The Traditional or the A.M. Superfoods Bowl, which the location page names as its most popular dishes.
Good to know: the Meyerland location serves alcohol, so brunch cocktails are on the table, and it has an outdoor patio.
Why it's here: it's the easiest full sit-down breakfast in Meyerland for a big group with mixed tastes.
Kosher breakfast
Saba's Restaurant
Braeburn edge of Meyerland, 9704 Fondren Rd, Houston, TX 77096 · kosher dairy · typically Sunday 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., closed Saturday
Saba's Restaurant on Fondren Road is a family-owned, certified-kosher dairy restaurant that says it opened in 2001 and calls itself the oldest kosher restaurant in Houston. Its breakfast menu leans Israeli and Yemenite, which sets it apart from the usual Houston breakfast plate.
What to order: the Israeli Style Breakfast, built around three eggs any style, or the Jachnun Plate if you've never had jachnun, a rolled, slow-baked Yemenite pastry. The Israeli Veggie Omelette is the lighter choice. Shakshuka sits on the entrees side of the menu and works just as well at 10 a.m.
Why it's here: it's our pick for the most distinctive breakfast in Meyerland. Just remember the Friday afternoon close and the Saturday closure.
Laykie's Cafe at the J
Meyerland, inside the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center, 5601 S Braeswood Blvd, Houston, TX 77096 · typically Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., no Saturday hours listed
Laykie's Cafe sits inside the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston (the J) on South Braeswood Boulevard. The J describes it as a cafe serving coffee, kosher pastries, muffins, salads, sandwiches and made-to-order panini, and the cafe's menu notes that meat products are prepared in a separate meat kitchen.
What to order: cheese blintzes or a boureka (mushroom, potato or cheese) with a coffee. A bagel with cream cheese or the omelette on sourdough baguette makes it a full breakfast.
Good to know: it's a cafe inside a community center, so plan for a quick, casual breakfast rather than a long brunch. Hours are on the J's cafe page.
Why it's here: in our experience, kosher blintzes and bourekas at 8 a.m. are not something you stumble onto elsewhere in Houston, and this is a weekday morning spot with real neighborhood character.
Breakfast tacos and Tex-Mex
Escalante's Fine Tex-Mex, Meyerland Plaza
Meyerland Plaza, 590 Meyerland Plaza, Houston, TX 77096 · weekend brunch typically Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Escalante's in Meyerland Plaza is a sit-down Tex-Mex restaurant that opens at 10 a.m. on weekends for brunch. On weekdays it opens at 11 a.m. for lunch, so this is a Saturday or Sunday pick.
What to order: the Breakfast Tacos, which Escalante's weekend brunch menu describes as three tacos on house-made corn tortillas with scrambled eggs and chorizo or bacon, served with refried beans and potato-corn hash. The Birria Hash, topped with two eggs and mole negro, is the dish to share. Chilaquiles and Huevos Rancheros round out the classics.
Why it's here: it's our pick for a sit-down breakfast taco inside Meyerland's boundary. For a weekday taco fix, see our best breakfast tacos in Houston guide.
Bakery breakfast and early starts
la Madeleine Meyerland
Meyerland Plaza, 4700 Beechnut St, Suite 620, Houston, TX 77096 · typically 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily
la Madeleine Meyerland is a French bakery and cafe in Meyerland Plaza. Its breakfast menu runs from French toast with fresh berries to the Country French Breakfast: two eggs, a potato galette, bacon or sausage and a butter croissant.
Why it's here: it's the calm, sit-anywhere option on a busy Saturday when First Watch has a wait. Confirm current hours on the Meyerland location page before you go.
Panera Bread, West Loop South at Jackwood
Meyerland, 8845 W Loop S, Houston, TX 77096 · typically 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
Panera Bread sits on the west-side frontage road of Loop 610 at Jackwood Street, a short hop south of Meyerland Plaza. It opens at 6 a.m. on weekdays, and its official location page says breakfast is available before 11 a.m.
Why it's here: it's the easiest early breakfast if you're heading onto 610, and it's open seven days a week, so it covers both Saturday and Sunday.
Chick-fil-A Meyerland Plaza
Meyerland Plaza, 5001 Beechnut St, Houston, TX 77096 · typically Monday to Saturday from 6 a.m., closed Sunday
Chick-fil-A in Meyerland Plaza ties with Panera for the earliest breakfast we verified inside the neighborhood, opening at 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday according to its official location page. It's the move for a school-run or commute breakfast when nothing else is open yet.
Why it's here: a dependable 6 a.m. drive-thru matters, especially on Saturday, when the kosher cafes are closed.
Where are the kolaches in Meyerland?
The honest answer is just outside it. The closest chain kolache and donut shops sit on South Post Oak Road a few blocks south of West Bellfort Avenue, outside our boundary. Inside Meyerland, a few small neighborhood donut shops sell kolaches, but we couldn't confirm any of them on an official website or social page, so they're not on this list. For verified kolache stops across the city, use our kolache and donut guide.
