- Things to Do in The Woodlands, TX
The Woodlands packs a lot of weekend material into a 30-minute drive north of Downtown Houston: a 16,000-seat outdoor amphitheater, a 200-mile pathway system, two open-air shopping districts, and a 1.25-mile waterway you can paddle in a kayak or cruise on a water taxi. Whether you live in the community or you're driving up from inside Loop 610, here's how to fill a day.
Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
The Pavilion is the cultural anchor of the community and one of the busiest amphitheaters in the country. Its April-to-November season runs everything from Houston Symphony performances and Houston Ballet outdoor showings to summer tours from Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews Band, and country headliners. Lawn seats are usually under $40 and ticket holders can carry in a picnic blanket and water, making it one of the better-value concert experiences in greater Houston.
Market Street and The Woodlands Mall
Market Street is an open-air lifestyle center with a central lawn that hosts free outdoor films in summer and the community Christmas tree lighting each November. Anchor stores include Tommy Bahama, Anthropologie, and Pottery Barn, with Tommy's Restaurant and Common Bond Bistro feeding the foot traffic. Next door, The Woodlands Mall covers the full department-store run from Nordstrom to Macy's and a Dick's Sporting Goods House of Sport flagship. Hungry between stops? Our guide to The Woodlands restaurants maps the best spots within a five-minute walk.
The Waterway and Hughes Landing
The Woodlands Waterway connects Town Center to Hughes Landing on Lake Woodlands. You can walk the 1.25-mile path, take the Waterway Cruiser water taxi for $5, or rent a kayak or pedal boat at Riva Row Boat House on weekends. Hughes Landing itself stacks restaurants, a Whole Foods, and the Embassy Suites along the south shore, with paddle-board rentals at the lakefront.
The Pavilion, the mall, and the Waterway all sit within a 10-minute walk of one another, which makes Town Center one of the more pedestrian-friendly destinations in the Houston Metro. For more on how the larger Metro transit network connects, see our Houston METRO guide.
Trails, Parks, and Outdoor Days
More than 200 miles of forested pathways thread the community, and the George Mitchell Nature Preserve covers 1,700 acres at the western edge with hiking and birding trails. Rob Fleming Park in Creekside Park has a splash pad and arboretum, Northshore Park hugs Lake Woodlands with a long boardwalk and free kayak launch, and Bear Branch Park in Indian Springs has the largest playground complex in the community.

Day Trips and Family Spots
TopGolf at Hughes Landing handles rainy-day groups, Main Event Entertainment off Research Forest Drive covers the bowling-and-laser-tag birthday tier, and the Children's Museum of The Woodlands offers a smaller, less-crowded alternative to the downtown Houston museum district for families with toddlers. Most Town Center attractions stay open seven days a week, with reduced hours on holidays. Pavilion concert nights flood I-45 traffic both ways from about 90 minutes before showtime, so allow extra runway if you're driving up from Houston.
