We were drawn to the Downtown location, and it ended up being a great fit for our family. The space is clean, bright, and well cared for, which we really appreciated. Every coach we interacted with was excellent! They were friendly and welcoming, but also confident in their coaching. They weren’t afraid to get on the kids when they knew they could do better, and they took the time to correct things properly. You can tell they genuinely care about the kids improving, not just going through the motions. Our boys loved the kids’ classes, and we were especially grateful for how the coaches in the adult classes welcomed them in. They made the boys feel comfortable and included while teaching them new techniques in a way that made sense to them. In a short amount of time, we noticed huge improvements in their technique, and the boys genuinely enjoyed learning new movements. Even the warm-ups feel intentional and purposeful, which says a lot about the quality of instruction. Parking was never an issue for us when arriving early for the kids’ class. It can get busier later on, but everyone is very accommodating and respectful when it comes to moving vehicles if needed. Overall, it’s been a really positive experience!

After a year and a half of capoeira, I decided to introduce BJJ into my training regimen. Full disclosure: it was initially a stranger on one of the anonymous Internet forums who truly heard my struggles with capoeira when I expressed them, and this individual strongly encouraged me to try BJJ. So after researching online, I booked a Friday night trial class on Halloween. First, the movements and holds felt very natural to me and so much fun! I’m not by any means a fast learner, but I got a TON out of that hour and a half. The instructor and three of my classmates were super helpful and the pace of class was just right. I can also see how training here will help me develop my core strength to where I want it to be. It will also challenge me to fix the upper body strength imbalance I’ve had for years, and catch my right side all the way up to my left side. Also, afterwards I realized BJJ is great for me because I crave physical touch—but I am not naturally “warm and fuzzy” with my friends and I don’t do romantic relationships or anything close to that. But yeah, the need for touch stubbornly remains. Maybe that’s why straddling and climbing on strangers was surprisingly not at all awkward or uncomfortable for me, even though I’m a woman and there was only one other woman in the class. And honestly some of those holds are excellent deep stretches; I felt more limber afterward. I’m planning to sign up here in a couple of weeks!

Revolution Dojo is more than just a BJJ school — it’s a community built on respect, discipline, and growth. Under the ownership of Jeff Messina, the atmosphere at all his locations are both welcoming and intense, perfect for anyone serious about improving their game. Jeff’s deep knowledge, passion, and dedication to his students and instructors have shaped not just skilled martial artists, but better people. Truly one of the best places to train.

I’ve been training at Revolution Dojo in Houston for about a year now, and it’s been an incredible experience. The community and instructors are welcoming, supportive, and motivating, and they’re always willing to help. I’ve never had a bad experience, and the positive atmosphere keeps me coming back. Being able to train both BJJ and Judo in one place is a huge bonus as well. As a woman, I’ve always felt comfortable, respected, and encouraged here—it’s a space where I can push myself and grow. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to train!

Coach Chris and his Muay Thai is some of the most authentic Thai techniques around. Jeff Messina and his BJJ team are truly a tried and tested team of warriors. Sensei Jaime and his team’s Judo is as close to Kano’s original vision for Judo you can train. Just know if you’re thinking about joining whether it be for the mat, ring, or cage, you’re getting the best quality training. Great place and even cooler people !
