We camped here for a week, in January. It wax great being on the beach! The dogs loved it. Though I wouldn't recommend the weather ;) The park was nice the campsite was comfortable and clean. They had restroom and shower facilities that were well maintained. Sites provided water and power and there is a dump station on property. We will come again, maybe in April!

Amenities are nice for a state park. Showers have hot water. And the grounds are well-maintained. We stayed on the beach side and it was nice to have a stretch of beach preserved for our use without all the commercial hustle and bustle. We pitched tents on the RV site so thst we could have electric and water. There was plenty of space for us to spread out. Not sure how comfortable it would be in the summer but the fall visit was very comfortable.

So much more beautiful and undistributed than South Padre Island - this Park has two great camping areas with access to water and a dump, some are electric but not all. Lightly traveled roads were excellent for a 15 mile bike ride. Very close to little town just south where we got a pizza. 5-ish miles to the north is much more developed with anything you might need. Another awesome Texas State Park!

Galveston Island State Park is a wonderful destination that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, coastal relaxation, and outdoor adventure right on the Texas Gulf Coast. I recently visited during the New Year's holiday, and it turned out to be an excellent choice for a refreshing winter hike and getaway. I have to be honest that the trails are somewhat limited right now due to ongoing maintenance in certain sections. Some paths were closed or partially obstructed, which meant we couldn't complete a couple of the longer loops we had planned. Hopefully, the park service will have everything fully restored soon because the potential here is really impressive. Despite the trail limitations, the overall experience was fantastic. The location is unbeatable for a New Year's hike – mild winter temperatures (we had perfect mid-60s weather), beautiful sunrises over the water, and the chance to start the year with fresh air and exercise. We saw dolphins playing offshore, plenty of seabirds, and even a few hardy beachgoers ringing in the new year. The campground is clean and well-maintained, with great sites right near the beach. Fishing from the pier or shore is popular, and the picnic areas are shaded and inviting. Whether you're camping, day-tripping, or just stopping by for a hike, Galveston Island State Park delivers that classic Texas coastal vibe with a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend visiting, especially around the holidays when crowds are lighter and the weather is ideal for outdoor activities. Can't wait to return once all the trails are back in full shape! This park is a true gem for anyone seeking a low-key, nature-filled escape close to Houston.

it’s a great park but not really too much to see. just walking seeing grass not too many animals. saw two rivers and this seems to be a good place to fish since there are a lot of fishers. restrooms are clean. entrance fee is $5 per person. if you just want to get your steps in this is the right place or if you love fishing.
