This nature preserve is at the far north end of Galveston Beach. I was surprised that there was almost no one there. It was a bit strange and deserted. At the time, the wind was blowing fairly intensely, which may have been part of the issue. Lots of seabirds. The water was too rough for swimming and there were many signs indicating that no swimming should be done. I could see quite a few folks fishing. There were marshy grasslands and wetlands In the vicinity. I think it is worth a visit if you are in Galveston. It is one of the few natural places that I could see on the island.

Great place, not super crowded, even though it’s “busier than usual.” I would say even off peak times are awesome! Empty beaches are the best. Great place to see the ships coming and going to and from Houston. Or the ferry boat over to Port Bolivar. The people on the road are polite and make way because there is water over the road in places. It isn’t deep so any car can make it just fine. But nice place in Galveston to escape the crowds.

It looked like a well preserved part of the island focused on nature. It features some short nature paths with plenty of benches interspersed to just sit and enjoy the view. Across the way is a deep channel where many large boats enter and leave the bay. There were still some wildflowers in December and I can imagine the fields were amazing during the spring and summer.

About 700 acres with most of that being wetlands. Not much hiking, there is a half mile ada trail which leads through some palm trees and a coastal brush area near the lagoon. Nice interpretative signage along the trail. It's a good area if your looking to fish, kayak, or birdwatch. The access road needs improvement.
