Oh man! Walked in and the owner greeted me warmly, before letting me know what was on the menu today. I ordered the chicken stew with the red beans and rice, plus tostones, and let me tell you - it was delicious and cooked with love! No, it's not fancy, and maybe better for take out for big groups, but I loved the warmth of the people working there and the tasty food will have me coming back! Authentic and delicious - I have missed Puerto Rican food, so I am so glad I came here.

I finally had the pleasure of checking out Tex-Chick Eatery, a family-owned Puerto Rican restaurant that’s been serving the community since 1982, now lovingly run by Titi Marilu and Titi Grace. From the moment I stepped into this cozy spot, I instantly felt like I was back home in Puerto Rico. Just like our island - it’s small, but filled with a huge heart. We chatted with them about our families, childhood memories, and how happy we are that they’ve kept our culture alive right here in the Montrose area of Houston. It’s a counter-service eatery, where you can see all the freshly prepared dishes right in front of you. You truly can’t ask for better service — if there’s something you’re craving that’s not in the menu and they have time, they’ll gladly make it for you! That’s the kind of warmth and hospitality that makes this place so special. We enjoyed a true Puerto Rican feast: arroz con gandules, pernil, mofongo con camarones al ajillo, pollo frito, empanadas de yuca y masa, flan de coco, limber de guanábana, and of course, more food to take home because we couldn’t have it all at once! My personal highlight? The limber with traditional flavors. Limbers definitely took me back to childhood. Prices are very reasonable, college students even get 10% off, parking can be a bit tricky, and they’re closed Sunday through Tuesday — but trust me, it’s absolutely worth planning your visit. Let’s keep our culture thriving. Support our local Puerto Rican businesses. WEEPA! 🇵🇷💃🏽

Tex Chic Puerto Rican Eatery is truly a hidden gem for authentic Puerto Rican food in Houston. From the moment we walked in, Titi Marilú made us feel welcome and treated us like family. Her warmth and hospitality made the entire experience feel just like being back home in Puerto Rico. We ordered a variety of traditional dishes, and every single one was excellent. The alcapurrias were perfectly crispy on the outside and well-seasoned inside, just like the ones you find in Puerto Rico. The empanadillas were fresh and flavorful. The arroz con salchichas with habichuelas was comforting and nostalgic, and the mofongo was moist, garlicky, and full of authentic flavor. The bistec encebollado was tender and cooked perfectly, topped with flavorful onions that brought everything together beautifully. To complete the experience, we enjoyed Malta and Kola Champagne, which added to the authentic Caribbean feel of the meal. If you are looking for authentic Puerto Rican cuisine in Houston, Caribbean food, or the best mofongo in the area, this restaurant should absolutely be on your list. The food is genuine, the portions are generous, and the atmosphere feels like home. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend Tex Chic Puerto Rican Eatery to anyone craving real Puerto Rican flavors in Houston.

Excellent service and amazing food! I was greeted by the owner and even had a conversation with her while she served my meal. She was very easy to talk to and really knew her stuff. The food was incredible, just like eating your grandma's cooking. The biftec with white rice, red stewed beans, and tostones was amazingly good. She even made the tostones in the moment, which made them taste even better. I definitely recommend this place and will absolutely be coming back
