Went on a Saturday morning at around 11 am. I was told only the dim sum was available at that time; any stir fried dishes wont be ready until 12 am. I ordered a wide variety of dim sum dishes. Most are priced in the large price category ( 5.25). You do have to be careful with ordering: they do add up. The dishes are kind of lightly salted, which I do like. However they are not lacking in flavour. The egg tarts were unique in they have a almond cookie crust: very nice. Premises are open and very clean and modern, unlike Ocean Palace. While the pricing is a bit steep, the atmosphere and cleanliness of the establishment will probably draw me back.

The dim sum is about the same as any of the other favorite spots in Houston such as Crown, Ocean, Kim Son. I normally go to Crown but the environment is hectic so it’s not as enjoyable as here. It’s slower paced and the servers are more attentive. Xiao Long Bao is not good. Too much meat not enough soup. Wrap is too thick. Everything is else is standard. They probably going out of business soon since they also asked us to pay in cash on top of it never looks busy even on weekend nights. I’ll support them until then.

Honestly, this place gets a bad rep. I get it. But from my experience the last 2 times I was there it wasn’t half bad! Not my favorite dim sum spot but it’ll suffice my cravings. My 1st time wasn’t that great bc the waiter had forgotten a few orders and ordered extra on some. But it was forgivable bc it was food we would of ordered anyway. Dim sum was not bad! Enjoyable. Nothing fancy. Just your typical dim sum. The menu is a lot smaller than most restaurant but it’s okay. It had everything I liked. With that said, I did not like the hostess or whoever the lady in the front was. She had sat a table down next to us, instead of walking to the host stand for menus (she should of had it in the first place) grabbed my menu off MY TABLE! Like dude, I was looking at that.. Ridiculous. She could of said something or excuse herself or asked nicely to take the menu. But to take it off my table to hand it to the next, unacceptable. 2nd time was a lot better! Our waiters were super attentive and man food came out fast! I loved it! haha I didn’t have to wait long at all. Literally got sat right away on a Saturday afternoon. They even gave us the lunch menu which I thought was only for weekdays but they were doing it for weekends too during dim sum hours. Chinese broccoli: slightly overcooked. but I appreciate the dipping sauce on the side do it doesn’t make my broccoli hella salty 3/5 Pan fried chive dumplings: 4/5 hella fillings! lots of chives & shrimp. just needed to be a bit more crispy! But tasty! Steamed chive dumplings: 4/5 super juicy and plump! chives and shrimp were overflowing! Taro puff: 3/5 needed to be crispier and more puff! haha but the filling tasted good Chicken feet: 4/5 very flavorful. tender. Shrimp Shao Mai: 4/5 these were delightful. lots of shrimp and bountiful. Juicy as well. Crab claws: 5/5 I liked that it came in 2 pieces. More manageable to eat. Nice and crispy. Came out pipping hot! Crispy salt/pepper pork ribs: 5/5 my favorite dish of the day! The pork ribs were very well seasoned. Crispy exterior but tender rib meats. Loved the fried garlic and fresh jalapeños! I would definitely order this again from their lunch specials! Ooh and they also did 10% off dim sum! So definitely a plus! Overall, this place isn’t bad for dim sum. My bf & family enjoyed it.

The food was excellent, and with the clean(er) environment (than ocean palace), I’d have given Q Mama 5 stars. However, something unfortunate happened as our party was paying our check. We had two friendly and prompt servers for our table, yet when we were about to pay our check, another lady came and asked if we could pay cash. Although it was unexpected, we still did so, just to have the lady round down our change. It’s not like we needed the missing couple dimes and quarters for our next meal, it was more about the gesture and cheapness of the action. We had a very pleasant dining experience up til that point, and we were even willing to help Q Mama out a little by letting them avoid the credit card transaction charge, but to greed after a couple coins seems ridiculous to me. We still haven’t tipped yet at that point, so to be honest, the lady and the restaurant’s actions seems too greedy to me. I know there’s been many bad reviews about service here and I had assumed that it’s because some customers weren’t Cantonese, hence they aren’t used to the raw dim sum service culture, but after my experience I would agree with the bad reviews as well. Our siulungbao was undercooked, and they were pleasant enough to make a new one for us (or have my standards lowered so much?), so I’m not exactly sure why that whole rounding down our change thing happened. A pity for the customers, and all of the other hardworking and gracious employees here to work so hard to earn one potential comeback customer just to lose it over one lady.
