La Escondida is easily one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the Missouri City / Sugar Land area. I’ll be honest, there isn’t a lot of truly good Mexican food around here. There’s plenty of Tex-Mex if that’s your thing, but authentic Mexican spots are harder to find. Gallitos is probably the only decent option in First Colony, and La Escondida is worth the short drive past that. It’s a little further down Highway 6 and kind of hidden, which fits the name. It’s not in a busy area near 59, but it’s absolutely worth going a few minutes out of the way. This is a family-owned, mom-and-pop restaurant, and it shows in the best way. They’ve had the same wait staff for years, and you’ll likely get the same waiter every time. Service is always friendly and consistent. They serve salsa and beans with the chips, which I love, especially the black bean dip. I’ve tried a lot of different dishes here, both traditional Mexican and a few Tex-Mex-style plates, and everything has been excellent. No complaints at all. If you’re looking for good Mexican food in Sugar Land without having to drive all the way to Stafford, this is the place. Highly recommend.

Today 12/20/25, I visited La Escondida with my family. The food was good, the quesadillas had a great taste of oil and cheese. The tamales were delicious! My plate was called "carnita" which was good but could improve the taste. It was sort of dry, but the taste was good. The service was incredibly awesome! Our 2 waiters were excellent in service. The atmosphere was good. There was a little noise, but overall it was enjoyable. Overall, I really enjoyed visiting La Escondida, although some improvement could make the visit even better! Thank you!

Going to another restaurant I was always interested in La Escondida. I had never heard anything about them, didn’t want to waste my money nor be disappointed. Ohhh but to my surprise… let me just say I had to go back a 2nd time it was so good! I mean both times I pretty much ordered the same thing… Cream Cheese Stuffed soapillas, Chicken and Spinach Quesadilla, and a Fajita Combo Plate. The food came with Salsa and Chips. The Quesadillas were a bit soggy but still good. Also the Fajita tacos were also a soggy since they seem to use a liquid cheese. The flavor of the meat/food altogether was still good. The chips were not good though as they taste mostly burnt and had a weird after taste. However the Cream Cheese Stuffed soapillas were sooo delicious. I will most definitely eat here again! Both times I picked up my food the restaurant was nice and not a lot of people there. They also serve breakfast only on Saturdays. Be sure to sign up to be a VIP hopefully they have some good rewards and discounts for us as we support this business.

Very good food. My husband and I were the only customers In the room. The lady who cleans the table stayed in the room staring at us and tapping her tray. I dont like to eat with someone making me fell like Im being rushed to eat so the table could be cleaned..I understand its her job, but I was annoyed feeling rushed to eat and wanted to enjoy our meal. Apparently not enough do!!!

Food was ok, but we have had better elsewhere. Kinda weird they service beans and potatoes instead of beans and rice. Didn't really mention that anywhere and the waiter offered to swap it but then charged us for it. The chips were mediocre, but the salsa was good.
