Family wanted to try Killen's for the longest and when we found out there's one in Cypress and in the mood for bbq, we didn't hesitate. We visited on a weekday close to 3pm and there was absolutely nobody there. The restaurant had a bar where you can order drinks but we decided to take to go. My hubby and I ordered 1 lb of brisket (took the option of moist vs lean), whole chicken, sliced brisket sandwich, brussel sprouts and potato salad. They gave us bbq sauce, pickled red onions, and white bread on the side. The brisket was tender and moist like it should be and just melted in my mouth. The chicken was also juicy and flavorful. Not overly smokey like other bbq spots that we have been to. The potato salad was seasoned well to include the brussel sprouts. The reason I did not rate it 5 stars because of the price. You will see what I'm talking about when you check out the menu....we will come back and try other items on the menu.

I went today for the third time. The first two times they were closed. I work in the area and always pass by this place. I've heard good things about it. I was disappointed the first two times. Today I went early. It was worth the weight. I ordered the three meat plate. Received moist brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. With double Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was probably the best I ever had. The ribs were good. The pork was good. The brisket was good. Im glad I stopped by and finally got to taste this bbq.

Visited Killen’s during lunch. Ordered the special…smoked prime rib. It was good but had minimal smoke flavor, both the sides were great. I went with the double starch… potato salad and the mashed potatoes. Server was great. She came by several times to check on us and to let us know when the rest of our order would be out. The only disappointing part of our visit was the onion rings. They were extremely salty to the point we just couldn’t eat them.

They took away the free self-serve side bar of jalapeños and onions. Now you have to ask them for it like a peasant standing in a soup line. This might seem like a small complaint, but it’s a clear message that they are cutting back on costs and starting to tighten the screw on their loyal customers paying top-shelf barbecue prices here. Enjoy it until it closes… (or not).

I was looking forward to bringing home a Togo order of 1 lb brisket and 1 lb ribs. When I opened the box at home there was a total of 3 ribs. This did not look right to me so I weighed it out. Disappointingly, I discovered they gave me 9 ounces instead of a full lb. If I am going to be charged $23 a lb for ribs, I should not have to come home and weigh my food to make sure that’s what I get. The brisket was also a little light. 14 oz instead of 16oz. Do better Killen’s. This is not the service I expect. Please reach out and make this right.
