Was immediately greeted and promptly seated at the table of my choice. Chips and salsa were promptly brought out. Salsa was good not spicy at all. I ordered fajita enchiladas and they were the best I've had in Houston The rice and beans were also delicious. This place is a hidden gem

Don Jose: A Reliable Stop with Service, But Failing on the Fundamentals Don Jose Mexican Restaurant offers a dining experience that is consistently good, if slightly mediocre, balanced by attentive service and excellent convenience. For those seeking a comfortable, easy night out with a comprehensive menu, Don Jose delivers, but be prepared for a few key areas that hold it back from truly great status. Ambiance, Service, and Convenience The restaurant shines in its operational aspects. The staff is notably friendly and attentive, ensuring drinks are topped up and needs are met quickly. The dining area is comfortable, and the availability of a separate Cantina offers flexibility for different types of visits. Convenience is high, boasting a good location with plenty of parking. The large menu is another strength, providing ample options for any palate. However, the interior is visibly aging, suggesting the need for some updating to match modern dining aesthetics. The Culinary Experience: Consistent, But Lacking Punch The food at Don Jose is generally consistent, meaning you know what you’re going to get—but unfortunately, what you get is often described as merely mediocre. The most significant letdown lies in the complimentary staples: the chips and salsa. Patrons consistently find the chips to be stale, undermining the start of the meal. Furthermore, the salsa is bland and tastes strongly like simple tomato sauce, lacking the fresh, vibrant spice and flavor complexity expected from authentic Mexican dining. Finally, while the lunch specials are appealing, the strict dine-in only policy is an inconvenience for customers looking to grab a quick takeout meal during the workday. Conclusion Don Jose is a friendly, reliable local spot for standard Mexican fare, supported by strong service and accessibility. If fresh, snappy chips and vibrant, flavorful salsa are deal-breakers for you, you might be disappointed. This restaurant is best suited for those who prioritize a large menu, comfortable atmosphere, and excellent service over culinary flair and sharp, fresh appetizers. A simple refresh of their appetizer ingredients and interior could instantly elevate the entire experience.

Just had lunch here. The place was not busy and I got seated quickly. The staff was very friendly and the service was good. Jorge was my server. I had the beef enchiladas which were excellent and the best that I have had in a while! Chips and hot sauce were very good. I didn’t try the margaritas since it was lunch time and I had a busy afternoon. Prices are reasonable.

A friend of mine said to me when we were talking about where we wanted to eat. We hada traditional Tex-Mex plate. Beef enchiladas, beans, arroz and guacamole. Very good chips and dips. And the prices are reasonable and the service was on spot and the service was as excellent. The wait staff was non intrusive and very friendly and efficient. Do Getsum!

Good Mexican food, great service, and good prices. Don Jose Mexican Restaurant has been a local go to for over 20 years. The service of the staff is excellent. Expect to be seated and served quickly in this contemporary styled and comfortable restaurant. The California burrito I ordered was good and the contents were fresh, but I am not crazy about canned jalapenos or canned cheese being on my food. I requested only fresh...oh well, could have been just an oversight. All in all a good place to dine.
