One of my favorite bars in Houston. Wide selection, decent prices. Awesome vibe, cool atmosphere and the crowd is always fun.

A solid, regular spot when my old friends from Houston come back for a visit. Atmosphere and drinks deliver everytime.

This is one of my absolute favorite bars in Houston. The atmosphere is always good, the interior is very unique and authentic and the prices are fantastic. They have a cool patio and it's fun to play a round of pinball every once in a while. We love coming here and having some beers

1 star is a generous understatement. Abhorrent and discriminatory service. Date of Visit: 1st of June 2026, around 11:00 PM – 12:00 AM I have never, in my life, felt compelled to leave a review let alone a negative review, but our experience at Poison Girl was so profoundly awful that I cannot remain silent. One star does not even begin to describe how poorly managed this establishment is. I am visiting from the UK, and my friend’s first language is not English (she has only been speaking it at a conversational level for about eight months). Because I am unfamiliar with dive bars, I asked the bartender on duty; a white woman in her 30s with dirty blonde hair and a medium build working the night shift, what Jim Beam was, as I am not a typical spirit drinker and was unfamiliar with what exactly Jim Beam is. From the very first sentence, her tone was incredibly curt, dismissive, and inherently hostile. I ordered a Paloma, wanting to pay with cash to clear out my US dollars and pay whatever remained with a card. I told her this and she told me my total was $8.50. I gave her my remaining $9, she gave me $0.50 back, and I accepted the unpleasant attitude just to move on. What happened next to my friend was entirely unacceptable. My friend tried to order a frozen strawberry margarita, and when told they lacked syrup, she switched to a regular margarita. The bartender then asked if she wanted to leave a card on file to keep a tab open. Because my friend is not a native speaker, she hesitated. I quickly translated the concept into Portuguese for her as that is the language we use to communicate. In the meantime of me explaining to my friend what the bartender meant, the bartender seemed all the bit irritated and moody. When my friend politely replied that she had her card on Apple Pay, the bartender snapped. In a rude, hostile, and dismissive tone, she stated she was just going to close the tab out right then. Because of this blatantly unfriendly and in my opinion, xenophobic treatment toward someone clearly struggling with a language barrier, I bypassed the tip screen when my friend paid. This bartender did absolutely nothing to earn a tip. The retaliation that followed was completely unprofessional: 1. Intentional Ignoring: When we returned to the counter for a second round, the bartender actively and intentionally ignored our clear body language for several minutes. 2. Refusal of Service: When I finally asked if we could order, she flatly refused us service, stating that if we weren't going to pay for "her labour" (referring to the skipped tip), we would not be served. To be clear, my response to this retaliation was verbatim for her to clarify what exactly she meant because as far as I am concerned to demand a tip after exhibiting such crass, hostile behavior toward international patrons is laughable in its audacity. She didn't even respond to my inquiry and proceeded to go about her duties as though she wasn't odious, retaliatory, and completely in the wrong. We immediately ordered a Lyft and left. What makes this especially ironic is that everything about Poison Girl’s aesthetic projects a progressive, liberal ideology; yet ironically the actual service we received was steeped in prejudice and impatience toward a non-native English speaker. If this establishment has even an iota of pride or care for its reputation, this bartender needs to face severe disciplinary action, if not firing. Her behaviour was disgusting, completely unprofessional, and most importantly utterly unacceptable. Avoid this place if you value basic human decency and hospitality.
