Second Baptist Church didn’t “discern God’s will.” They staged a boardroom vote with about 100 hand-picked people—mostly wealthy insiders—and crowned Ben Young senior pastor. That’s not Baptist polity. That’s nepotism with a pulpit. Baptist churches don’t run on dynasties. They don’t operate like family-owned franchises. The entire congregation is supposed to have a voice. When you cut out the body and let a rich few decide, you’re not leading a church—you’re managing an empire. Let’s stop pretending this is about faith. This is about control, money, and legacy. The Young name runs the show, the donors sign the checks, and the rest of the congregation gets a press release instead of a vote. At this point, Second Baptist has more in common with Lakewood than with the Baptist tradition. Big stage. Big money. Zero accountability. A polished brand selling Jesus like a product while silencing the people who are supposed to be the church. So be honest. Drop the word Baptist. Call it Second Young Church. Or better yet: Second Backstabbers Church—where power is inherited, voices are ignored, and God is used as a rubber stamp. Because a church that fears its congregation isn’t a church at all. It’s a business hiding behind a cross.

I attended the Christmas carol. OH MY GOD! It was my first time of seeing anything like that. I was absolutely blown away and stunned by the size of the church, stage, audience and performance. This is my best Christmas ever . I am so grateful and blessed to have watch such a broadway performance by a devoted church congregation

The church censors Google Reviews of long time members to conceal scandals. Some information should be shared by mandate with members especially when it pertains to safety. That 4.6 star rating is not accurate because Google reviews are being censored to hide the truth. My wife and I were long term members. She died because of abuse that was concealed from me and some volunteer Bible study leadership were actively aware it had been occuring, but no one had the heart to tell me. I was left to raise two very young children and a horrid scenario came to light. Those tithes and that commitment to the church come with expectations that you will address serious concerns and provide a safe environment for families on campus. I respected leadership at Second. I looked up to them while they let something terrible happen to me and members of my family and kept a secret of unthinkable horror. Silence is guilt. This situation went on for decades. My spouse died because no one would tell the truth so I could get help for her. The people who kept this information from me were wealthy, of course. There was no talk of accountability for the complict or for the guilty. They wanted it swept under the rug. I was removed from the Class' email list and cut off after confronting the people who had kept this terrible information from me. Stop protecting abusers and their supporters. I left Second immediately after I learned they did not value the safety and well-being of their membership, especially children on campus.
